Everyone sat down after they had entered the hall

"Darren, you helped us deal with a massive disaster immediately after your return. It's mighty generous of you,” Garth praised.

"Ha-ha, since you knew that he is a troublemaker, why didn't you kill him?"

Darren couldn't understand why the officials had ignored what had happened in the Holy City. After all, Myron had done so many evil deeds.

"There are things that you don’t know, Darren. If I had killed that guy and Anderson learned about it, he would bring his army here. At that time, blood would spill like rivers on both sides, and there would be countless casualties. We had no choice but to turn a blind eye to it.

"Not at all,” Darren answered perfunctorily and then continued, "How is the first fiend ancestor now?"

Garth's face darkened. His tone was laced with anxiety as he answered, "The situation is not very good. The bastard is afraid of your avatar and the four greatest holy warriors. So he didn't dare to attack the cities by himself. However, he created many low-grade fiends to spy on and make trouble in the cities. They have slain a dozen guardians of the eighteen cities.”

This was worrying as the guards of the eighteen cities were all half-step emperors.

Darren was startled to hear that, because his avatar was still in the ancient world and hadn't returned yet.

Surrounded by people who were thanking and praising him, Darren drank a lot.

"Linda, you have been admiring Darren for a while. Come here and propose a toast to him," Garth called just as the party was ending. An instant later, a beautiful girl flew toward them.

"Dad, I never said that I admired Darren. Humph!" Crimson bloomed on the girl's cheeks as she demurely protested. However, she couldn't shift her eyes from Darren.

"Are you the Governor's daughter?" Albeit embarrassed, Darren greeted her with a smile.

"Yes, you are right. My name is Linda Qin," the girl replied.

Linda Qin tried to appear calm as she finished her introduction, all the while, her heart thumped wildly in her chest.

'Oh my, God! Darren is not only an exceptional talent, but he is also such a handsome man. Will he take a fancy to me? Will he like me?’ Linda Qin's mind raced.

"Hello, Miss Qin. Would you like to join me for a drink?" Darren proposed, with a warm smile. "Wow, I've heard so many great things about you, but I never expected to actually meet you. You're more handsome in person. Ha-ha." Linda Qin picked up her glass and flew over.

Darren also took up his glass. After a light touch, he drank it all in one gulp.

"Well, we are almost finished. It's time to get some rest. Linda, guide Darren to his room. He must be tired as well."

Linda Qin was thrilled to hear her father's instructions. She nodded immediately.

Darren froze when he realized that Garth was trying to bring him and his daughter together.

"It's all right. I can go by myself,” Darren said.

"It's no trouble, Darren. Come with me,” Linda Qin said as she flashed Darren a charming smile. Darren was rendered speechless. He didn't want to refuse again. Linda was polite, and it would be improper for him to deny her repeatedly.

"Thank you, Miss Qin."

"Well, a handsome guy like you shouldn't be so old fashioned. Come on!” Linda Qin turned briskly and swept her gaze over Darren. She was so close to him now that her intoxicating fragrance left Darren feeling dizzy.

"Miss Qin has never been so enthusiastic before.”

"They would make a perfect couple.”

"Linda, seize the opportunity,” a senior-level general remarked, jokingly.

"Humph!" Unhappy with all the teasing, Linda Qin turned and led Darren out of the room.

"Miss Qin..." Darren started as he wanted to say something, but Linda interrupted him.

"Don't call me Miss Qin. Just call me Linda!" Her sweet, gentle voice washed over Darren. She was clearly flirting, and it made him uncomfortable.

"Ha-ha." Darren smiled awkwardly before he said, "Miss Qin, I'm married."

"Ha-ha-ha.” Linda Qin burst into laughter even before Darren finished. Then she said, "Darren, do you think that I want to pursue you?"

"Don't you?" Darren's face flushed when he thought he had mistaken her advances.

"Of course, not." Linda Qin turned and glanced at Darren. With a smile, she said, "My father might have meant that, but I wouldn't. I know about the relationship between you and Laura. And, I love her too much to hurt her. It doesn't matter that I have had a crush on you since we first met. I won't take away the man she loves. Don't worry.

Be nice to Laura, or I will not let you go!"

She pouted and threatened Darren with her raised delicate fist.

Darren shook his head, speechlessly. He found it funny as well as annoying that Linda thought that Laura was his wife.

As he didn't want Linda to fall in love with him, Darren believed it was better if he didn't explain anything to her.

They remained silent until they arrived at a courtyard.

"Darren, would you do me a favor tomorrow?" Linda asked Darren before he walked further. "What favor do you need?"

"Could you pretend to be my boyfriend for a day?" Linda asked sweetly.

"Damn it! Didn't you just say that you wouldn't pursue me?" Darren exclaimed as concern flooded him.

Linda rolled her eyes at his overdramatic reaction. What he had said, had sounded so strange. "Humph! I said that I wouldn't pursue you, and I meant it! Why are you so nervous? Do... you dislike me?"

Linda said. Disappointment and hurt were evident in her tone.
