Chapter 26-2

Lost in thought, I held my bag firmly as I walked down the stairs. I was extremely lost in thought as I struggled so hard to fight the tears threatening to fall from my eyes, The doctor’s words rang in my ears again,

"Sadly, the results came out negative."

I recalled the shattering of my heart after those words.

I raised my gaze to stare at Dexter, who was standing at the entrance, and then tears rolled down my eyes. Fuck! I hated so much that he was damn right even though I had put my hopes in the fact that it was going to be positive,

I stepped into the car without uttering a word to him and once he stepped in, the car drove off almost immediately without either of us uttering a word to each other.

Still lost in my thoughts, I didn’t realize when the car halted until I heard Daniel’s voice

"We’re home, Luna." His voice tore me out of my gaze and when I looked at my side, Dexter was gone. I had not even told him about the results.

How the hell was I going to face him now?

"Is everything alright, Luna?" Daniel questioned. I averted my gaze towards him and nodded my head, "Yes. Is Dexter busy at the moment, I need to talk to him?"

"He should be in the study room. Shall I take you to him?"

I shook my head in negation, "No. I’ll go myself."

Daniel nodded his head and walked away while I stood at my spot still thinking about how I would break the news to Dexter

Gathering enough courage, I finally began to walk and when I got in, I saw a maid carrying a tray of orange juice with her,

"Is that for my husband?" I questioned and as she turned around, she nodded,

"Yes ma’am."

"Give it to me, I’ll take it over to him myself. Thank you." I uttered it was handed to me.

I began to head toward the study room and once I got to the entrance, I rasped a knock on the door before opening it. As I walked in, I figured it was empty and Dexter was nowhere, but as I turned to leave, I heard his deep voice,

"Why are you here?"

"To see you."

He dashed out from a corner and then appeared right in front of me. "What do you want?" He questioned but I clamped my lips,

"It’s negative. The result came out negative so I guess you’re right. It didn’t work." I uttered, silently waiting for his response, but the only thing I got was a loud scoff from him as he tucked his hands into his pocket,

He began to take steps towards me, "And?"

I shut my eyes for a few seconds, biting my lower lips before I responded, "We’ll do it your way, Dexter. Tonight, we’ll do it your way." I responded,

"I should leave now," I uttered after handing him the tray and turned to walk away but I heard his voice when I got to the entrance,

"Just to be clear, Amelia, this would change absolutely nothing and once it’s done, we would go back to what we’ve always been. Absolute strangers."

I held the doorknob, fighting the urge to bite my lower lip again. Of course, what was I expecting? That I would mean something to him? I’ve always meant nothing to any of my mates and things weren’t about to change with him,

"You don’t have to remind me," I uttered and shut the door once I was out
