Chapter 31-1

DEXTER:

"What about this? Do you think it’s going to fit me properly?"

"Dexter? Dexter!" I heard again before my gaze darted to Scarlett. I had been lost in thought,

She handed the dress to the lady who had been following her around and came to me,

"Hey, are you alright? You seem lost." She uttered, but I didn’t respond until she sat down close to me,

I cocked my head towards her and she smiled, "Are you thinking about anything?" she questioned and I nodded,

"Yes," I responded,"What’s wrong?"

I heaved deeply, adjusting my sitting position as I took her hand,

"What really happened back at home between you and Amelia? Tell me the truth, Scarlett." My voice was as calm as ever as I asked, but instead, I watched the smile on her face turn into a deep frown, followed by low whimpers,

"You don’t believe me?" She uttered and I raised my brows at her,

"Amelia really tried to attack me after I told her not to be mad you had been taking care of me all along, Dexter. I tried to calm her down afterwards but she wouldn’t listen to me. I’m really sorry if you think my actions tried to hurt your mate, Dexter; I was only trying to make her not hate you for ignoring her, that’s all.."

I saw a tear slide down Scarlett’s eyes and I raised my fingers to rub it off,

"Hey, hey, don’t cry, okay? I’m really sorry, please don’t cry." I uttered,

"I’m sorry. I’ve just been so sad and out of shape lately because my Dad’s memorial is just a few days away and I can’t stop thinking about him. I really miss him so much, I do." Scarlett uttered, and I pulled her into a hug,

I hated it so much that it was my fault her Father died, and if I could take it back, I’d choose not to have tried to escape from the mansion on that day. I would have chosen to stay, and maybe beta Gregory would have been alive by now, and Scarlett wouldn’t be in so much pain.

"Don’t cry, okay, it hurts me too," I uttered and began to gently rub her back,

When we broke the hug, I rubbed the

tears on her face away and rose to my feet,

"Come on, let’s see you try the outfit. I’ll get you everything you want even if it’s the entire mall." I uttered, knowing that I would be able to make her smile again."

Holding my hand, she rose to her feet and was handed the black gown she had tried on before while I watched her step into the dressing room,

As soon as Scarlett was gone, the smile on my face turned into a frown as I wrecked my fingers into my hair,

I know what I had seen back there and I had no idea why that hell Scarlett was lying to me.
