The Alpha King's Rebellious Queen -
The Alpha King’s Rebellious Queen Chapter 14
Jemma’s POV
I had nightmares through the night that seemed to abruptly stop when I was filled with incredible warmth and comfort. I nestled against the warm pillow taking in its heavenly scent. The pillow was snoring softly. My eyes popped open when I realized where I was. I was snuggled against Cassius with my cheek resting on his bare rock hard chest. His arm was wrapped around my shoulder. Growling, I scrambled out of his hold. One of his eyes popped open, and a slight smile spread onto his gorgeous face. “Good morning, my Queen.” He purred sweetly. For a second, I wanted to melt, and then I remembered he was the reason I was having nightmares.
“I was sleeping on the floor. Why did you move me?” I demanded as his smile fell.
“I couldn’t stand seeing you on the floor, so I moved you.”
I growled at him. “And then forced me to sleep on you.”
He chuckled softly. “I have never forced a woman to do anything. You were having a nightmare and snuggled against me. I didn’t have the heart to push you away as you are my mate. My instinct is to comfort you. So, that’s what I did.” He explained.
Rolling my eyes, I got out of the bed and glared at him. “Did it ever occur to you that you are the reason I was having a nightmare?” He cringed as the words left my mouth. “You took what I loved most in this life.”
He sat up and turned his back to me. His head hung down. “I am sorry, Jemma. Truly I am. But you have to understand why I did what I did.”
“I know why. You are just a typical alpha male unable to handle the fact that your mate had a life before you came along and tore her away from it. You are all the same.” I growled.
“I am not like those other males, Jemma.”
I folded my arms. “Right because tearing a three-year-old from his mother totally proved that you are different.”
He stood up and faced me. My eyes nearly bugged out of my skull as I took in the Adonis before me. I had to stop myself from staring by looking away from him. But my body betrayed me. I looked into his eyes. It was clear he was fighting back the tears. “I know I wronged you. I will spend the rest of my days, making it up to you. Please give me a chance, Jemma.”
“I don’t know if I can, Cassius.”
He walked around the bed and towards me. I backed away from him until I hit a wall. He stood before me, and I just looked at the floor. He stood inches away from me. His scent was overpowering me, making me weak in the knees. My wolf wagged her tail happily at the closeness of our mate. ‘Dammit, Leonora. We are still mad at him.’
She whimpered. ‘I know, but he is hard to resist.’
‘Well, try harder.’ I snarled at her. She just whined and retreated to the back of my mind. My skin tingled as he traced the back of his hand down my cheek. Tears sprung to my eyes. It was hard to fight instinct and lean into him and give into nature. But when I looked at him, I heard my son screaming for me in my mind. What was I going to do? He was never going to reject me. I was stuck with the man that stole my world from me. I was not going to give in to him. Ever. He was lifting my chin to look at him, and I closed my eyes.
“Look at me, Jemma.” He said softly.
I shook my head. “No,” I replied painfully. I could sense his lips just hovering above mine. The amount of strength it took not to lean forward so his lips could touch mine was too much. I balled up my fists and tried pulling my head away from him, but I was already against the wall. I shivered as his lips brushed against mine. His hand held my cheek. “Cassius, stop.” I opened my eyes to his pained expression. “Please just give me some f*****g space.”
Frowning, he backed away from me. He sat on the bed and looked at the ground. “Get dressed. It’s time for breakfast.” He mumbled sadly.
“I’m not hungry,” I said as my stomach rumbled. Damn, even my stomach is betraying me.
“Your stomach suggests otherwise.” He smiled softly.
Sighing, I walked away from him and into the closet. My bags were gone, and only a few things were hanging up. They weren’t my things and not my style. I opened the drawers and only found my jeans and none of my band shirts. My plaid skirts were gone. Only my workout clothes were present. Cassius had entered the closet and was quietly rummaging through his clothes. “Where are all of my clothes?”
“I threw them out.” He replied.
Anger came over me. “What? Why?”
He shrugged. “You are my queen, and I need you to dress like it. I can’t have you running around like a teenager trying too hard to be tough.”
“Cassius!” I stomped my foot. “Some of those shirts were one of the kinds. I spent years collecting them.” I screamed at him.
He kept his back to me. “I’m sorry, Jemma.”
“Is there anything else I love that you want to take from me?” I growled as I grabbed a pair of jeans from a drawer. I found a white tank top and some panties and a bra.
“I keep failing you.”
“Damn right, you do.” I stormed out of the closet and entered the bathroom, slamming the door as hard as I could. I leaned against the door as tears fell from my eyes. ‘I can’t do this, Leonora.’ I could smell him standing just outside the door. “GO AWAY, CASSIUS!” I yelled at him as I sobbed. “I can’t do this,” I whispered to myself. I sauntered over to the shower and stared at it. It had a touch screen to the side, and I stared at it, wondering how in the hell I was supposed to work the thing.
Stripping off my clothes, I touched the screen and quickly found it wasn’t as complicated as it appeared. I stepped into the hot water. The pressure was terrific as the showerheads hit me from every angle. I just stood there for a minute before washing myself. My mind nothing but a chaotic mess. I started thinking about Nicky, and instantly I was crying again. Was he eating well? Was he still thinking it was his fault that I left? I could only hope that Jeremy was doing everything he could to comfort our son. I managed to turn off the shower and grabbed a towel to dry myself off. I put on my clothes and ran a brush through my hair. My eyes were red from my tears. I sighed as I opened the bathroom door. Cassius was sitting on one of the couches. He appeared to have freshly showered and looked hot in a pair of black dress pants and a grey button-up shirt. He glanced in my direction with an expressionless gaze and smiled.
I ignored him and walked into the closet and picked up a pair of black sneakers. Quickly putting them on, I walked out of the closet and towards the door. I was ready to get out of this room and breath some fresh air.
“Are you ready for breakfast?” He asked quietly beside me. I nodded as he opened the door and not knowing where we were going. I let him lead the way. I looked around me at the fancy palace. Fancy was an understatement, though. It was the grandest place I had ever seen. As one of the old palaces, you would see on TV.
Servants bowed to us as we walked past in silence. I would notice Cassius nodding his head and smiling at each one. We were almost to the elevator when a familiar voice called out to us.
“Where is she?! Where is my daughter-in-law?!”
I turned to the source as a woman resembling Cassius was nearly jogging towards us with Uncle Terry close behind her. Short brown hair with those same ocean blue eyes with a thin frame covered by a blue summer dress. As she got closer, vague memories popped into my head. Memories of her and Uncle Terry visiting the packhouse. “Isabelle.” I managed to speak to my mate’s mother as her name popped into my head.
Without hesitation, she pulled me into a tight but warm hug then pulled back. “Oh thank the Goddess that my Cassy finally found his queen. And imagine my surprise and joy to know that his queen turned out to be the daughter of one of my oldest and dearest friends. Welcome Home Jemma.”
