Jemma’s POV

Waking up in his arms was like being in heaven. I snuggled against him as I opened my eyes. His scent overwhelmed my senses as I tried to get out of bed, only to have him hold me tighter. I patted his arm. “Cass,” I whispered. “Let go.”

A low growl rumbled out of him. “No.” He kissed the back of my head. “I am never letting you go.”

“But I have to pee.” I blurted out. He sighed and loosened the hold, and I scurried out of bed and into the bathroom. After using the toilet, I took a long shower. As I was putting moisturizer on my face after my shower, I remembered I needed to take my birth control. I searched through my stuff in the bathroom and didn’t see my pills. I hurried out of the bathroom wearing only a towel and into the closet. I rummaged through my bags and drawers. Cassius walked into the closet and watched me for a moment.

“What are you looking for?”

“My birth control pills.” I sighed loudly with my hands on my h**s.

“I threw them out.”

My eyes narrowed as I glared at him. “Why the f**k would you do that?”

He shrugged. “Um, because I fully intend to get you pregnant.” He said it so casually.

“Well, I don’t plan on getting pregnant anytime soon. Can’t we get to know each other before we jump into parenthood together?”

He opened his mouth to say something and then sighed. He pressed his lips together. “Jemma,” He said my name and then ran his hand through his hair. “You are my mate. Mates make pups together.”

I rolled my eyes. “Cassius, I want to get used to being queen before I fall into the role of royal broodmare.” I grabbed a pair of black workout shorts and a tank top. I was ready to go to training. If anything else to get my frustrations out. I stormed out of the closet and stopped at the bathroom door. “Just so you know. We aren’t having s*x any time soon.” I growled and slammed the door. I hastily got dressed and glared at myself in the mirror. So much was happening too fast. I ran a brush through my long hair and put it into a ponytail before walking out of the bathroom. Cassius was sitting on the bed watching me with a frown. “I need some fresh air. I’ll meet you downstairs.”

He took a deep breath and stood up. He took a long look at me and opened his mouth like he wanted to say something. Then he nodded. “I’ll be down soon.” He mumbled before brushing past me and into the bathroom.

I walked out of the bedroom and towards the elevator. Terry and Izzy were standing in front of the door waiting. They both turned to eye me as I walked up to them. Izzy must have noted my expression of frustration. “What is wrong, dear?” She placed her hand on my arm.

“Your son has a knack for finding ways to piss me off first thing in the morning,” I grumbled out.

She raised an eyebrow. “What did he do now?”

“He threw out my birth control pills. A*****e. It’s like he expects us to have pups right away. Can’t we get to know each other first before I start cranking out pups for him?”

Terry and Izzy exchanged a look as their eyes glazed over while they mind linked each other. I shook my head as the elevator doors opened and we walked in. Izzy sighed. “Dear, don’t be too mad as Cassius. He intends well. He is just eager to have an heir. We all are.”

I rolled my eyes. “I know you are. But come on, Izzy. We barely know each other. I want pups with Cassius, just not right away.”

She pressed her lips together and looked at Terry. I could sense they were keeping something from me. I ignored the feeling and rushed out of the elevator as soon as the doors opened. I walked well ahead of Izzy and Terry and into the dining room. I sat in my seat and waited for breakfast. Maria was sitting a few seats down.

She gave me a slight smile. “Are you ready to start training this morning?” She asked in her dry tone.

I nodded. “I can’t tell you how much of an honor it is to train with you, Maria.”

“The honor is mine as well to train The Hand’s granddaughter.” She placed her hands on the table. “But don’t think I’ll go easy on you either.”

“Well, I hope you don’t, Maria.” I could only smile as I heard her son giggling from the doorway. I turned to see Angela holding Nicolai’s hand. They both brightened up as they saw me. Nicolai released Angela’s hand, and he ran over to me.

“Good morning Queen Jemma.” He beamed at me and held up his little hand that contained a few crumpled daisies. “I picked these for you.”

I smiled down at the adorable pup as I gently took the daisies from him. “These are beautiful, Nicolai. Thank you.” I leaned down and kissed the top of his head. He giggled and ran over to Maria and climbed onto her lap.

“He just had to pick flowers for you.” Angela laughed.

“Well, that was very sweet of him,” I said as everyone suddenly stood up. Cassius’s scent entered my nostrils as I stood with everyone else. He gave me a wry smile as he walked to the head of the table beside me. He was dressed in a black suit with a white tie. His brown hair was slicked back as his blue eyes sparkled. I had to press my lips together to keep myself from drooling. I don’t know how he did it. But he looked even hotter in a suit.

“Good morning, everyone.” His deep voice rumbled through the dining room. “Let’s eat.” He nodded towards the waiting omegas and sat down. Everyone else followed. He clasped my hand and squeezed gently. “Are you still mad at me?” He said quietly.

Shrugging, I looked at him. “We’ll see.”

He spied the flowers sitting on the table. “Where did those come from?”

“Nicolai picked them for me.”

He looked over at the pup sitting on Maria’s knee. “Nicolai, are you picking flowers for my mate?”

The little boy nodded his head. “Yes, she is pretty.”

A deep laugh rumbled out of Cassius’s chest. “That she is. Very pretty.” He winked when I looked at him.

Breakfast was set before us. This morning it was meat and veggie omelets with home fries and toast. My mouth watered as I dug in. It was delicious. I sipped some orange juice as an omega tried pouring me some coffee. “Oh no, thank you. I don’t drink coffee.”

“Why don’t you drink coffee?” Ainsley asked from beside me. I shook my head. I hadn’t noticed when she showed up. I felt bad.

“Oh, there is a good reason,” I smirked at my sister-in-law.

“What reason is that?” She said while sipping her coffee.

I shrugged. “Because it’s vile.” I made a face. “I can’t even stand smelling it.”

Her eyes widened. “You don’t even like iced coffee or mochaccino?

I shook my head. “Nope. The sweet stuff is even worse. I hated it whenever my mom and sister dragged me into a coffee shop.”

“You are weird, Jemma,” Ainsley mumbled.

I ate some more of the delicious omelet and shrugged off her comment. I had no problem with being weird.

“Jemma, how did you like the clothes I had sent to your room?” Izzy asked.

I glanced at her. I had sort of noticed some new clothes on my side of the closet. But they weren’t my style. I sighed. I hated to offend Izzy, but I needed to be honest with her. “Truthfully, Izzy. They aren’t my style.”

She pursed her lips. “Cassius, told me you needed clothes because most of the ones you brought with you were not appropriate for a queen.”

My anger suddenly surfaced when I remembered all of the band shirts he had thrown away. “Yeah, he threw out all of my good band shirts.” I lodged a sideways glare at him. He just stared at his plate of food. “Some of those were my dad’s old shirts.”

“Oh, man. I remember some of the shows he got those from.” Terry glanced at his son. “Why would you do that, Cass? Some of those shirts were one of the kinds.”

Cassius sighed. “Dad, those aren’t appropriate clothes for a queen.”

Terry rolled his eyes. “She doesn’t need to dress fancy all of the time. But jeez, son.”

I laughed. “I didn’t’ know you went to concerts with my dad.”

“Of course. One of us had to drive home. Phil would get so shitfaced-‘”

“Terrance!” Izzy barked at him. “Language.”

The former king rolled his eyes at her. “I don’t need my mate to discipline me like a pup, Isabelle.”

She snorted. “Well, when my mate is acting like a teenager, it’s needed.” She looked at me. “Okay, Jemma. If you like, we can go shopping and buy you clothes that are more your style but appropriate for the Queen of werewolves.”

“Mother, Jemma is starting training with Maria this morning,” Cassius spoke up.

Isabelle looked at Maria. “Well, training won’t be an all-day affair, will it, Maria?”

The Delta shrugged. “Since it’s the first day, I’ll just be evaluating her so I can figure out her skill level and so I can find appropriate sparring partners. That shouldn’t take more than a few hours.”

“See, we’ll go shopping after you are done with training.” Isabelle declared.

Cassius sighed. “Fine, Mother.” He sounded mildly irritated. “Just try not to drain the bank account too much.”

“Can I come too, Mother?” Ainsley asked and smiled at me. “I want to get to know my new sister.”

“Yes, Ainsley.” Isabelle agreed. “We could use a girl’s day out.”

Cassius stood up from the table. “Well, you ladies have fun. I have work to get started on.” He glanced down at me. “Have fun with training.” He kissed the top of my head and then walked out of the dining room.

A moment later Maria stood up. “Training starts in five minutes, your majesty.” She smirked at me before walking out of the room.

I nodded as I drank down the rest of my orange juice. A weird sensation came over me as I stood up and headed out of the dining room. Acrid perfume hit my nostrils as I heard a familiar female voice. I saw a she-wolf trying to cling to my mate. I recognized her as someone I would have to deal with in various meetings and get together in the kingdom. Her father was Terrance’s third in command. But I just remembered how annoying she was.

“Oh, Cassy, it’s so good to see you.” The thin raven-haired woman wearing a delicate dress said while rubbing her hands on Cassius’s arms. He kept pulling away from her. “Oh baby, don’t be like that. I know we didn’t end things on good terms. But I came back to-” She stopped talking and looked at me as I walked towards them. I was suddenly feeling intense jealousy. She was touching MY mate. “Jemma? Jemma MacKenzie, is that you? What are you doing here?”

I walked over and linked my arm with Cassius’s. I leaned into him as I glared at her. “Oh, I live here now, Olivia.”

Her green eyes narrowed as she watched me lean into Cassius. “Oh, I see, Cassy has found a new plaything.”

Cassius growled at her. “Jemma is not a plaything.” He smiled at me. “Jemma is my mate. My Queen.”

Olivia sneered at me. “Are you kidding me? You promised that I would be queen.”

“I said no such thing, Olivia. We were just friends.”

Tears sprung into her eyes. “We were more than just friends, Cassy.” She glared at me. “I don’t know what black magic you pulled to trick Cass-“

“Enough, Olivia!” Cassius barked in his King alpha tone. That made Olivia immediately submit. “I don’t know why you came back, and I don’t care. But I told you when you left that we were never an item.” He growled. “No, get out of my sight.”

She sniffled. “Fine. Just throw me out like yesterday’s trash and ignore what we had together.” She flipped her black hair and then stormed away.

I could only laugh as she walked away. “Really? Olivia Irwin?” I laughed harder.

He rolled his eyes. “She is my father’s former Delta’s daughter. We knew each other for a long time. I guess she was just convenient.”

“Whatever.”

He nudged me with his elbow and laughed. “You are so jealous.”

“I am not jealous.” I tried pulling my arm out of his, and he held me tight as he snaked his other arm around my waist.

He leaned down to me with his lips hovering right above me. “I see right through you, Jemma MacKenzie. Your little body is seething with jealousy.”

“No, I-I’m-” I was cut off as he planted a long hard k**s on my lips. Then he let me go and pulled away, leaving me breathless and light-headed as he walked away from me. “You can’t just k**s me and walk away, Cassius.”

He stopped and smirked at me. “Oh, I think I just did, love. I have work to do, and you have to get to training. See you later.” He continued walking away.

“A*****e!” I shouted after him as he just laughed. Taking a deep breath, I walked out of the palace and headed to the training grounds.
