The Alpha Prince And His Bride -
Book 2 The Alpha’s Forbidden Bride – Episode 15
We were all outside Eden’s room door, waiting for the doctor to finish his examination on her. She wasn’t waking up and each second that I waited outside her door was excruciatingly painful. I dragged in air and pressed the back of my head against the wall.
“She’s going to be okay,” Austin assured me. “You need to be strong, I promised you that I’ll be with you throughout this entire thing and I meant it.”
My head shot up as I heard the door opening.
“How is she doctor?” I asked.
His gaze went from Austin to me; there was this fear in his eyes that bothered me. He didn’t want to tell us what was wrong.
I started to panic at that fact.
“There’s something that you should know before you go in to see her.” He finally answered, confirming my suspicions.
Everyone looked at each other, worry on each of their faces, including mine. What could he possibly need to tell us?
“Is she still not waking up?” I asked as I tried to step around him.
He held up his hand to stop me. “It’s not that.”
“Is she okay?” I demanded, becoming impatient. I just wanted to see her and make sure that nothing was wrong. I couldn’t get the image of her bleeding on the ground out of my head and it didn’t help that I knew that I was completely the one to blame.
“What’s wrong to her doctor?” I demanded, unable to hide the desperation in my voice this time.
“She’s bruised her head pretty badly, we managed to revive her but she doesn’t remember anything . . .” he paused. “Or anyone . . . It may take one to four weeks before she remembers anything at all.”
His words shattered the little self-control I had left. This was a lot worse than I’d originally thought; again, I couldn’t look myself in the face after knowing what had caused all of this.
“Is there nothing that we can do to help her?” Lucy asked the doctor with teary eyes.
He shook his head, “I advise all of you to give her time to remember everything. If she’s hit with too much information all at once, it will not do any good to her.”
“It’s my fault,” Isabella cried suddenly. The poor girl had been crying since she’d seen her sister unconscious, the look on her face made me feel a million times worse. “I should have never asked for Eden to leave the council.”
Lucy reached forward and placed a hand on her shoulder. “It’s not your fault, our sister will be okay.”
My head cleared as a familiar male’s scent hit my nose.
Hunter.
His grey eyes took in everyone before he paused at Isabella’s tear struck face. I wanted to rip the man into pieces; killing two of his men didn’t seem like enough.
“I think you should leave,” Austin said, blocking him from walking further.
Hunter looked calm; he was the only one in the room that looked relaxed. “She’s going to be my wife in less than three weeks; I think it’s safe to say that if anyone should be in this room, it should be me.” He stated coolly, as though this was nothing.
“You can’t be serious?” Lucas demanded. “She’s lost all memory of every single one of us. How do you expect her to still go ahead with the wedding when she can’t remember anything?”
His cold grey eyes looked bored with the conversation. “She will remember everything in time for the wedding. She’s a werewolf; she’ll heal faster than a human would.”
“How can you be so heartless?” Isabella demanded, hurt in the depths of her eyes.
At her question, Hunter’s eyes narrowed and darkened a shade. It was the first time I’d seen the heartless beast of a man show any sort of emotion.
He took a few steps in her direction, until he was inches away from her. The tension in the air doubled at the scene unfolding before us. He touched her chin and pushed her face upwards as his eyes searched her face. “You haven’t seen heartless yet.”
Isabella shivered at his words. I moved to push him away from her, knowing that Eden wouldn’t like her sister to be in any danger. However, to my surprise, he stepped away and stormed out the room without anyone having to say another word.
“I swear, I get the chills every single time he comes here.” Maya commented with terrified eyes.
The doctor looked traumatized by our little conversation but he still motioned for everyone to enter, one at a time. He did this so that Eden could get familiar with each face; he also wanted to see her reaction to everyone, with hopes that she might remember something.
I silently watched from the doorway as everyone introduced themselves to her one by one. She really had no memory of any of us; I could clearly see the fear and confusion in her eyes.
I had no idea how hard this must be for her. Being surrounded by people you had no memory of.
I leaned against the wall and closed my eyes. This was my fault. If I hadn’t been so desperate to make Eden mine, none of this would have happened.
Hunter wouldn’t have found us, and we would have gotten time alone to figure out what was our next step.
All I had to do was wait, just like Austin had asked of me.
I hated myself for this.
“Aren’t you going to see her?” Austin asked, having just returned from the room.
I shook my head. “I should have listened to you from the start.” I admitted. “I don’t want to cause her any more trouble than I already have. From now on, I’ll keep my distance.”
“Can you do that?” Austin asked.
I sighed. “I’ll force myself to. At least until I’ve figured out a way to make her mine. Until then, I’ll have to let her go.”
Austin nodded. “I think that’s best. We have no idea what Hunter would do now that he knows you’re Eden’s mate. The best thing will be to keep your distance until we’ve finalized our plan.”
“How long do you think that will be?” I asked him.
Just the thought of staying away from Eden was difficult for me to digest.
“We can start planning tomorrow,” he said. “We’ll need as much help as we can get. We can join allies with packs that we’re close with. But we’ll have to get their permissions. Not many packs will be brave enough to stand up against both Hunter and the council.”
Tomorrow was sure to be a challenge but at least we would now have an idea of what we were up against and how many packs were willing to sacrifice and help us.
Until all of that was sorted out, I’ll have to stay away from Eden.
…………………………
~EDEN~
I blinked, this was the second time I’d opened my eyes without remembering a single thing about my life.
I didn’t like not knowing anything. I felt alone despite having so many people around me.
“Please don’t look so frightened,” the woman who’d introduced herself as Isabella whispered. “I’m your sister. We’ve been through so much together; I will not leave you during this rough time.” She promised.
I managed to smile and nod, I did feel safe around her but the fact remained that I couldn’t remember a single detail about our close relationship. That fact only added to my distress. I wanted to remember!
“Would you like to go for a walk outside?” she asked, “to clear your head a little.”
I nodded before I could stop myself. I really wanted to get out of this enclosed room. Everything felt like it was choking me inside of here.
Isabella helped me out of the bed and I followed her out the room.
As soon as we hit the bottom step, a strong scent hit me harder than anything that I could possibly remember. My eyes searched my surroundings for the man that carried such a captivating scent with him.
I found him a few feet away, speaking to the other woman who’d also introduced herself to me as my sister. I believe that she told me her name was Lucy.
His entire built was extremely sexy, the man was all muscle and it was hard not to look away. My gaze jerked up to meet his eyes and it was then that I found him looking at me.
I gasped at the sudden sensation that travelled all the way between my legs.
Such warm, captivating eyes. He held my stare and I felt my insides begin to melt with his heated gaze.
He was the only one in the room that I felt a connection to. I could feel my heartbeat increase at just the sight of him. He made me feel like I belonged here, he was the only reason that made me want to stay.
He was too far. I needed to be near him, I needed to find out everything that I could about him. I didn’t understand the direction my thoughts had taken out of the blue but I also didn’t care at the moment.
I suddenly found myself walking towards him, I saw the way his body stiffened the moment I started to approach him however. To my horror, he turned and walked away. If I knew any better, I would think that he was running from me.
Oh, God.
This was simply embarrassing!
I turned to Isabella and by the look on her face; she’d obviously just seen everything.
“Who was that man?” I asked her.
Her eyes widened. “His name is James. He’s Austin’s brother.”
James . . .
I liked that name.
But there was just one bigger question in my mind.
Who was he to me?
