The Alpha Weredragon's Favorite
CHAPTER 36 - White Wolf

Lyra

Professor Harbringer went on, and as he did, I found myself hanging on his every word, the tales of White Wolves and their extraordinary abilities making my pulse quicken with curiosity.

Professor Harbringer leaned against the lectern, his eyes sweeping over the lecture hall. "White Wolves possess a rare and ancient power," he explained, his voice resonating with reverence. "They are not born by chance, but rather when a need arises to protect a pack who has served the Moon Goddess well from a devastating threat."

His words sent a shiver down my spine. I leaned forward in my seat, my pen hovering over my notebook, eager to capture every detail.

A student in the front row raised her hand. "Professor, what kind of threat are we talking about?"

Professor Harbringer smiled, his eyes twinkling with a hint of mystery. "Threats that could wipe out entire packs, my dear. Plagues, curses, dark magic - the kind of dangers that require a special guardian to overcome."

Murmurs of awe and reverence rippled through the lecture hall. I felt a strange sensation in my chest, a mix of pride and longing.

Professor Harbringer's words hung in the air, and I found myself leaning forward, eager to hear more. A hand shot up from the middle of the lecture hall. "Professor, how can a wolf prove themselves worthy of this power? And have there ever been any male White Wolves, or have they always been female?"

The professor smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Excellent questions. While the Moon Goddess has historically chosen females to bestow this gift upon, the offspring of a White Wolf may inherit some of her abilities, though they are never as potent as the original."

Another student, a young man with a curious expression, asked, "Professor, did you inherit any of these gifts from your grandmother?"

Professor Harbringer's gaze turned sharp, and he fixed the student with a stern glare. The young man shrunk back in his seat, mumbling an apology. The professor's reaction made me wonder what secrets he might be hiding about his own lineage.

A girl in the front row raised her hand tentatively. "Have there ever been instances of White Wolves using their powers for wrongdoing?"

The professor's expression softened as he addressed the question. "The Moon Goddess is wise in her selections. A White Wolf can only manifest if the chosen individual proves themselves worthy of such a gift through their actions and character. It is a heavy responsibility, and those who receive it understand the gravity of their role."

He paused, a wistful smile playing on his lips. "My grandmother, for example, didn't receive her wolf until she was nearly 25 years old. But my grandfather loved her deeply, and chose her as his mate long before that, proving the strength of their bond."

A collective sigh echoed through the lecture hall, and I noticed several female students gazing at Professor Harbringer with dreamy expressions. I had to admit, there was something alluring about his aloof demeanor and the way he spoke about love and destiny.

As the discussion continued, students asked about the specific abilities of White Wolves and the challenges they faced. Professor Harbringer patiently answered each question, his passion for the subject evident in the way his eyes sparkled and his voice grew animated.

I found myself hanging on his every word, my mind racing with thoughts of my own family history and the strange voice that haunted me. Could there be a connection between the legends of the White Wolves and my own path? I raised my hand tentatively. "Professor, how does a White Wolf know they've been chosen?"

Professor Harbringer's gaze met mine, and for a moment, I felt as if he could see right through me. "They are marked by the Moon Goddess herself, Miss Evergreen. Silver claws, spectral markings, and a howl that can pierce the veil between worlds, extraordinary healing powers, these are the signs of a true White Wolf."

As he spoke, I couldn't help but think of that there was no way I was a White Wolf. Except for the voice in my head, no strange markings had appeared on my skin and I'd never howled in my life. With the Jacques however... I did feel a warmth in my hands as I hovered them over his wounds, but that was probably because Ryan was close... naked (and trust me I so wanted to look) his sweet scent filling my nostrils...

No, it was impossible. I shook my head, dismissing the thought. I was just an outsider. There was no way I could be something as special as a White Wolf.

But as Professor Harbringer continued his lecture, delving into the history and legends surrounding these mysterious guardians, I had a feeling that somehow, in some way, this was all connected to me.

And deep down, in a place I hardly dared to acknowledge, a small spark of hope began to glow. Maybe, just maybe, there was a reason for all the strange things that had happened to me. Maybe my path wasn't as aimless as I had thought. Whitney and I walked out of Professor Harbringer's lecture, the tales of White Wolves still fresh in my mind. As we made our way down the hallway, Whitney scoffed, "Can you believe all that nonsense? White Wolves? It's just a bunch of fairy tales."

I bristled at her dismissive tone. "It's not nonsense," I retorted, my voice sharper than I intended. "The legends of the White Wolves have been passed down for generations. There has to be some truth to them." Whitney rolled her eyes, a smirk playing on her lips. "Oh, please. You're just trying to get on Professor Harbringer's good side. Maybe even get into his bed, huh?"

I gasped, shocked by her crude suggestion. "What? No! I would never... I'm not interested in anyone like that."

Whitney laughed, waving her hand dismissively. "Sure, sure. Whatever you say, Lyra." She paused, glancing at point over my shoulder. "Oh, shoot. I forgot my book in another classroom. I'll catch up with you later, okay?" Before I could respond, Whitney hurried off, leaving me alone in the hallway. I shook my head, trying to brush off her comments. I took a few steps forward when suddenly, I felt a sharp push from behind.
