Lyra

The night before the final trial, I found myself unable to sleep. My mind was racing with thoughts of what lay ahead, and I was filled with a sense of unease. I paced back and forth in my room, trying to calm my nerves. Suddenly, I heard a soft knock on the door. I hurried over to open it, and was surprised to find Killian standing there.

"Hey," I said, taken aback by Killian's unexpected appearance. He stood there, his silver eyes piercing through the darkness, a sense of purpose surrounding him. In the low light of the hallway, his tall, imposing figure seemed to fill the doorway, his hair perfectly in place despite the late hour.

"I hope I'm not intruding," he began, his deep voice echoing in the quiet hallway. "I noticed you were restless during training today, your mind off in another world. I thought perhaps a story might help ease your mind and grant you a bit of peace from thinking about what lies ahead tomorrow."

I nodded, curious about what tale he had to share. I sat on the edge of my bed while he sat on my desk chair.

"Have you ever heard the story of how Luna Harbringer secured her Luna status?" he asked, his gaze intense. I shook my head, and he continued, "You are lucky, Lyra to be competing in a rather... uh, tame trial. For Luna Harbringer, her last Luna trial had one simple but brutal rule - a fight to the death."

Killian paused, his eyes glazing over as if he was there, witnessing the event unfold before him. "Luna Harbringer, was a formidable opponent, a sight to behold on the battlefield. Her fur, as white as freshly fallen snow, gleamed with an otherworldly glow under the moonlight. Her eyes, a cool and glacial blue, held an intelligence that far surpassed any ordinary wolf, hinting at the depths of her wisdom and cunning. But her opponent, a massive, dark-furred brute of a she-wolf with rippling muscles and a vicious snarl, was equally intimidating, standing as a shadow against Luna's light."

He took a deep breath, his voice growing softer. "The battle was fierce. They clashed, their long claws slashing through the air, their howls echoing through the night. The brute was strong, but Luna was quick and agile. She dodged her attacks, striking back with precision."

Killian's hands moved as he spoke, mimicking the fluidity of the fight. "But then, something unexpected happened. Luna had the brute pinned down, her claws at her throat. She could have ended it right there. But she didn't."

He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in. "Instead, she stepped back, allowing her opponent to rise. The crowd was silent, shocked by her decision. The brute, confused and disbelieving, stood there, unsure of what to do." Killian's voice grew stern, his eyes reflecting the seriousness of the situation. "Luna looked at him, her eyes filled with a strange sense of peace. 'I won't take your life,' she said, her voice steady and strong. 'I've proven my strength. Now, it's up to you to decide how this ends.""

He took a deep breath, his gaze returning to me. "The brute, moved by her mercy, lowered her head in submission. The crowd erupted in cheers. Luna Harbringer, the White Wolf, had secured her alpha status, not through brutality, but through compassion and strength."

I listened to Killian's story, my heart pounding in my chest. The image of Luna Harbringer, the White Wolf, standing tall and proud, her fur gleaming in the moonlight, was etched into my mind. I could almost hear the cheers of the crowd, feel the tension in the air as she made her decision.

"That's an incredible story," I said, my voice filled with awe. "I had no idea that's how she secured her alpha status."

Killian nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "It's a story that's been passed down through the generations. A reminder that strength and compassion can go hand in hand."

I took a deep breath, my mind racing. "Killian, can I ask you something?"

He raised an eyebrow, his silver eyes glinting in the dim light. "Of course, Lyra."

"Were you the one who slipped that note in my book at the library? The one about the White Wolf and her destiny?"

His smile widened, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "I must admit, I was hoping you'd figure it out sooner. But yes, it was me."

I felt a surge of frustration, mixed with a strange sense of relief. "Why didn't you just tell me? Why all the secrecy?"

He chuckled, his deep voice echoing in the quiet room. "Where's the fun in that? Besides, I wanted to see if you were truly curious, if you were willing to seek out the truth for yourself." I rolled my eyes, a small smile tugging at my lips. "So, you were testing me?"

"In a way, yes. And you passed with flying colors."

I shook my head, a laugh escaping my lips. "You're something else, Killian."

He bowed his head, a playful grin on his face. "I do try my best."

I took a deep breath, my mind returning to the story of Luna Harbringer. "So, you really think I'm destined to be like her? The White Wolf?"

Killian's gaze softened; his eyes filled with a sense of pride. "I believe that you have the potential to be just as great, Lyra. But it's up to you to decide your own path."

I nodded, my heart swelling. "I won't let you down, Killian. I'll make you proud."

He placed a hand on my shoulder, his grip firm and reassuring. "I have no doubt that you will, Lyra. Now, get some rest. Tomorrow is a big day."

I nodded, feeling a sense of peace wash over me. As Killian left the room, I climbed into bed, my mind filled with thoughts of the White Wolf and the destiny that lay before me.
