The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 13

Edwina’s POV…

The ceremony took way more time than I had anticipated. There were a lot of dipping hands in water and immersing one’s leg in a green slimy-looking sticky substance.

When we were done with the ritual, there was a brief celebration. My heart was in no mood for celebration; I had nothing to celebrate because all I had known to be true about marriage had failed.

I always thought of marrying for love and when I thought I did, my marriage failed, I got a cheating husband and now I am getting married to a man I didn’t love to save my sister and Benedict.

I wondered how he felt when they approached him with the marriage news. Was he angry, or did he feel betrayed?

I don’t know why I should give a f**k or care about how he feels when truly he was the one who broke us, he cheated on me with my sister.

“I have this whole new perspective of the tradition surrounding marriages,” Alpha Xander whispered to me, I don’t know why I was still so formal around him but maybe it’s because this marriage was all about formality.

“What is that, Alpha?” I asked. He was sitting close to me in the reception hall and surrounded by a lot of wolves, some from different packs who had come to witness the glorious event.

It was supposed to be a small wedding with little noise, but when an Alpha is getting married, the whole idea of small is not really feasible.

I just hope my sister doesn’t find out.

“I find it unnecessary and superfluous,” he stated, then paused to take a sip of the wine glass in front of him, I had not drank wine or eaten anything, I found no cause for celebration.

“Why do you, Alpha?” I asked again, I was in no mood to converse with him but he seemed to be.

“Why can’t I just do the needful and take my wife home and we do the other needful?” He whispered again, it took a while before my mind comprehended exactly what he meant and when it did, I gulped in a lump of saliva.

Did he just make a s*x joke?

“I see,” I replied, I didn’t want this discussion to go any further.

That was when it dawned on me, we had not discussed that part yet. What type of dumbhead gets married without talking about s*x, but here we are.

“I just feel it is not the main deal, by the way, all we want to do is to just get home and f**k,” he muttered to me, he had a smirk on his face, something about this statement and how he said it weirdly stimulated me, it was more like I was being turned on by his words.

I shrugged, “We all have what we want,” I replied to him.

“What is it you want then?”

“Uh mm?” I was not sure what he was asking.

“What is it you want, an excessive wedding or s*x?” He replied with that same devilish grin on his face. He was loving this, he knew I wasn’t comfortable with his question and he derided my discomfort, was all these just a joke to him to feed his sadistic taste for dominance?

“Whatever comes I accept,” I simply replied as my cheeks turned pink from blushing.

“So you have no preference,” he leaned in and tilted his head forward until I could feel his hot breath on my neck.

I gulped in another lump of saliva, I glared around, people were staring at us but were pretending as if they were not.

“We all have preferences,” I muttered, as I began to struggle with my utterance of words, his presence was all over me, evading me. Making it so hard for me to breathe.

I needed to leave here because his presence was becoming evasive, too evasive.

“So is a man in a wheelchair your preference or do you prefer a man more active?”

I stood up almost immediately, “Excuse me Alpha, I need to go adjust my makeup,” I said and without even waiting for him to say anything, I disappeared into the dancing crowd and went through to the main house chamber. I felt his eyes on me all the way through, then I reached the bathroom, it was a general bathroom on the down floor of the chambers. I would have gone to a more private bathroom but I didn’t want to go through the stress of taking the stairs with these miserably painful heels.

I entered the bathroom, locked myself inside one of the chambers and sat on the toilet seat, I just needed space to breathe and think clearly.

The idea of having s*x with Alpha Xander was scary to me, especially the fact that I might be the one doing most of the work because he is disabled.

When I agreed to marry him, I didn’t put into consideration that we would be having s*x but now that he is talking about it, I am a bit scared of what to expect and how to perform.

I heard a giggling coming from the toilet, I peeped through the pinhole and saw two ladies walking into the bathroom, I know I needed to remain calm and unnoticed; what would be said of the bride who locked herself up in the bathroom on her wedding day? That wouldn’t go out well.

“I heard she begged him to marry her to cover up the shame of being left by her mate,” the lady with blonde hair said who appeared to be the older one spoke first, and they both stood before the mirror fixing their make-up.

“I heard it’s because she is deficient she had to seduce her way into his life, and poor Alpha Alexander, ever since he lost his legs, he shows such a poor sense of judgment,” she said using a toilet wipe to touch the base of her face, I was still peeping through the whole.

“He used to be a powerful Alpha, but now he is the weakest. What a disappointment, he even got married to a deficient woman,” the brunette with an ugly-looking cap replied.

“My husband and I are thinking of joining the sizzlers because if there is any battle again, we are all doomed. Imagine a pack with a deformed Alpha, a deficient Luna, and a Beta wolf in Jail. It’s like the moon goddess has laid a curse on us,” she said with a condescending look on her face.

“True, it’s better to be on the right side of the battle.”

They both rinsed their hands and took one last glance at the mirror before exiting the bathroom. when I was sure they had left, I also hastily stepped out of the toilet and strode back to the reception hall. I sat down back still reminiscing of what I heard, was this how they saw Alpha Alexander since the tragic event; as an Alpha who could no longer lead his pack?

“You took a long time to fix your makeup,” he whispered,” I almost thought you were going to leave me on our wedding night.”

I glared at him and then smiled, “why would I Alpha, I agreed to marry you and stand by the sacred bond of marriage,” I replied with the gleaming smile still on my face.

“We are married, you can quit calling me Alpha, it sounds so formal.”

“What should I call you then?” I asked.

“Well, after tonight, whatever name you get to call me when I am in you, you can stick to calling me that,”

I burst out in laughter, I shouldn’t be laughing but that joke was so corny, and somehow it lightened the mood and how tense I was since I heard the ladies in the bathroom.

“Edwina, I wouldn’t force you to do anything you are not comfortable with, I told you right from day one, I don’t force people. We can move at your own pace,” he said rather calmly this time, I could see the proper gentleman in him.

“Okay,” I simply said, nodding.

“Do you want to leave here? I am already tired of this elaborate party,”

I chuckled, I had known Alpha Alexander from afar and he always seemed like the outgoing, macho, billionaire who always attended the biggest event, but coming up close now, I can see how he doesn’t like parties.

“Sure, let’s go,”

He signalled Caleb, who I have come to know to be his personal guard to come to lead the way, as we passed people waved and we waved back. When we reached the mansion where the main chambers were, I followed him to his room. When we reached the door, I paused hesitantly to follow him.

“Come in, it’s our wedding night and it’s a tradition we spend tonight together, you can have your separate room tomorrow, ” he said calmly and pushed the door open before wheeling himself into the room, I followed suit.

The room was enormous, with a king-size bed, it was filled with a wardrobe and an inner room which I assumed would either be a dressing room or a bathroom. There was also a grand piano in the centre of the room.

“Wow your room is beautiful,” I commended, and he smiled.

“Thank you, I had it personally decorated to suit my taste.”

“You have good taste then.”

He smiled again and soon gazed at me rather intensely this time.

“So dear Luna, it’s our wedding night. What do you want to do?”

The way the question came out brought quivers to my body and I could feel my bones grow weak.

I don’t know if I wanted to have s*x, but I am his wife and it is part of my duties.
