Episode 48

BROOKE

I follow Hudson towards my mother’s room; we walk in silence and next to each other.

It was completely awkward but I think it might have been to do with the fact that he opened up to me about what was going on at the time which must have been hard for him.

We come to a door on the second floor and Hudson steps in front of me “Here is your mum’s room” he says and points to the door but turns around and points to a door a few doors further up on the same side “That one there is yours, mine is next to it” he says as he turns back to me.

I smile “Thank you” I mouth.

Hudson looks at me “Brooke I meant what I said I will make it up to you, just tell me how” he says.

I look at him but I have to admit I don’t know how he can make it up to me. I need to think about it.

I shrug at him “I will let you know” I mouth, Hudson smiles “OK, that’s all I can ask for, goodnight Brooke” he says and turns on his heel.

I turn to face my mother’s room but out of the corner of my eye I can see Hudson looking back at me, I turn to look back at him “Actually I was wondering if you would like to have breakfast with me and maybe I could show you around the pack, that’s if it’s ok with you” he says with a hint of hope in his voice.

His eyes plead with me but I know I want to know more about him but I need to have the nerve about being with him.

Willow comes closer and she smiles “I think that will be a good idea Brooke, we can see the pack grounds and maybe he can open up more to us,” she says.

I look back at him and smile, I stick my thumb up at him and he chuckles “Is that your way of saying yes” he says and I nod my head with a blush forming on my cheeks.

Hudson smiles at me “Great, I will see you in the morning.”

I smile and nod at him.

Hudson walks into his room and I knock on my mother’s door, she answers it straight away.

She does it but her face is full of emotion and she looks like she’s been crying since she has been in here.

“Brooke,” she says in a weak voice “Why are you here?”

I walk into her room and wrap my arms around her, she is slightly taken back but she hugs me back. I can feel her tears land on me as they are silent.

After a few moments, I move back and wipe her tears away “Why are you crying?” I mouth to her.

She gives me a small smile “I was trying to be brave down in the office but when I came in here on my own, I was full of every emotion I could think off” she says and closes the door once I was inside.

I take the seat by the window and she looks at me “What’s wrong Brooke?” She says. She grabs some paper and hands it to me, I smile at her “Jo handed me this before he went to his room with Adonis; he said you will probably be in here later as you were still in the office when he left with Hudson.”

I take the paper and pen; I start to write what Hudson told me. I mentioned Alfred and everything about the pack he went to. Once I had finished writing I handed the paper over to my mum. It took her a few moments to read it and she sighs, she moves the chair opposite me and sits “You are sure he said Alfred” she says.

I nod.

She looks at me “Alfred was here when I arrived and when you were born, he always did horrible things to humans, even tried them on me. My phoenix was pissed at what he was doing so I was happily to prove him wrong” she says with a smirk “Hudson was always with him, he was his trainer at the time. He never once spoke to me but now I can understand why he didn’t. Hudson wasn’t the only child he influenced, there were quite a few that he turned against humans.”

I look at her “Why was he against humans?” I mouth to her.

She looks at me with a stern face “There were rumors floating around that a human girl rejected him or he was mated to a human girl which he never liked but there is one I heard well your father told me that Alfred was targeted by a hunter when he was a pup, the hunter killed both his parents. The old alpha took him in as his own, brought him up with Hudson’s dad but Alfred never bothered with any of us especially when I was around.”

Suddenly she stops and looks at me “Do you remember the night we were attacked?” She asks. I nod looking slightly confused.

“Well that night before I argued with your father, I saw Alfred that evening by the lake. Alfred came to me and told me that he loved me. I was shocked as he never showed anything towards me except hatred but when I rejected him because of your dad, he growled and told me I would be sorry” she says “The fight between your father was due to the way the kids were being around you, Daisy would defend you and you would try to fight back but the ones that were against you had it in for you and maybe they were the ones who were influenced you about your decision about staying.”

I shake my head and grabbed the piece of paper and pen and wrote back “No, my decision wasn’t because of the nasty kids. I could deal with them, it was Hudson. Both Rex and he were hiding in the treehouse, I wanted to see them but I overheard their conversation. Hudson told Rex that I was a pathetic little human and he would never be caught dead with me.”

She read the paper and hissed “That little s**t” she said but she looked back at me “I’m sorry, I thought Hudson would have known the difference about that but he surprised me. Well when you told me that you wanted to leave, we went through the forest clearing to get to the human town that we would have stayed in. I never told anyone this but Alfred was there that night with the rogue; I could smell his scent there nearby.”

I scrunch my eyebrows up “Why didn’t you tell anyone?” I mouthed.

“I was away when he was banished, when he came to meet me I thought he had been on some sort of business for the pack. He never smelt like a rogue but the wild flowers around always did mess with my senses. I found out of Adonis when I met him and told him about my story” she said.

“Do you think he was working for them?” I mouth.

“For who?” She asks but suddenly something dawns on her “Brooke can Willow come forward” she asks with urgency in her voice.

I close my eyes and Willow comes forward with me “Yes” she says.

“I want to ask you something, when you healed Brooke that night, did you use your essences by any chance,” she says.

Willow thinks back and hisses “You think he might have seen what I did,” Willow says and my mother nods.

“I have been trying to rack my brain why someone would go through all the trouble of being with Jackson and get close to you, even take you from him,” she says.

We both look back at her.

She’s right, why would Aubrey take me in or even want me?

My mother gets up and paces the floor “Brooke, Willow can you show me what you remember that night?” She says “I want to make sure it is true and if it is we need to plan on keeping you safe and work out what they know.”

Willow uses a memory ball, we watch it and it makes it so much clearer to us that Alfred was there and he had witnessed Willow using our essence to recover me.

After the memory ball, Willow and my mum hiss.

“We need to talk to Alanna,” she says.

I nod but she looks at me “I will go and see Luna Sophia now; you take my bed and sleep”

I cross my arms over my chest and Willow who is still through “We want to talk to her too, we want to know what they know” she says.

My mother smiles “We will together and tomorrow but you have a breakfast date with your mate and Brooke’ she says, Willow goes back and pushes me forward “You want to take your time with Hudson and have him make it up to you that is fine but he is your mate and the only one you have, he will make you happy and if I must say he is one fine man now, he is definitely not the little s**t back in your childhood.”

I smile at her “I will take it slow, no need to rush” I mouth and place my hand in hers “I know he is my mate and he is the only one I have but he hurt me I need time to process it all.”

She nods “Then just do that, you both need to like each other before all the mating anyway how about being his friend first.”

I nod “I like the sound of that”

My mum laughs “Good, go to sleep I will…….” she says but there was a knock at the door. She goes to the door and opens it “JOE” She says “ADONIS”

Joe and Adonis walk in and smile at both of us, they were both holding hands.

“What are you two lovely beauty’s doing?” Adonis says looking between the both of us.

My mum tells them both everything that we talked about and they even looked at the paper I wrote on.

After a few moments, both men growl and look at us “Danica, you and I will go and speak to my cousin and the alpha now, Joe will stay here with Brooke” he says.

Mum and Adonis leave after they both k**s my cheek.

I climb into my mother’s bed while Joe sits on the side by me where I lay, looking down at me “Brooke, we will get to the bottom of this” he says.

He brushes my hair out of my face and holds my hand, I can’t help but feel safe when he’s around even Willow is calm around him too.
