The Alpha’s Rejected Bride -
Chapter 31
I'm pacing back and forth on our small space. Something else? What is that even supposed to mean?
"Are you crazy?!" I exclaim, her face deflates and I regret my words.
"I'm sorry," I sit back down. She smiles softly.
"Lucille, I think your mother was a supernatural! A powerful being," she says with excitement. I roll my eyes.
"strong? yes, she was strong for a human," Everyone was surprised by her strength but she was 100 percent human. "When did you get tested for the werewolf gene?" She asks. I shrug.
"I was thirteen or fourteen, I didn't feel my wolf-like all my peers," I answer her. I remember when my age mates were getting excited about sensing their wolves or even communicating. Their senses were heightened," I explain. "And now?"
"My senses are much better," I admit.
"And when is your birthday?" She asks
"21st February,"
Alora sighs, " That's just three weeks from now," I want to ask her what my birthday day has to do with this but she opens her mouth
"I think we can know what you are then, look, most creatures embrace their true form on either their eighteenth or twenty-first birthday except werewolves of course -," she sounds excited as she explains while I frown. All this makes no sense, my mom was human, meaning I should be either human or wolf, there's no other way. I take in a sharp breath and lie on the floor, facing the ceiling.
Maybe mom was vampire, demon, angel or fairy or you know what, I'm done! Over it. Whatever will happen will be, I won't stress over it anymore.
Alora's face comes close to mine and I yelp.
"Yo, you almost gave me a heart attack!"
She is looking at me intrigued, " your eyes are really pretty, all unique colors," she whispers. I smile
"Thanks,"
A memory of my parents and I visiting a human city comes to mind. We were on a beach and two kids I thought were my friends started to make fun of me. Saying things that I was born with defective eyes since they have multiple colors and I've never hated them eyes until then but mom told me they were just jealous because mine is unique and theirs were normal
'Normal is sooo boring,' she slurred and drank her wine in a classy manner. She always was elegant.
I smile thinking about my parents.
"My favorite is the shade of gold around the border of the pupil," She is pointing at my eyes.
We are talking and laughing about everything, Alora doesn't talk much about herself and I respect that.
I check the time on that huge clock, time flew by so fast, it's almost past 10 am, I'm sure Rhodes will worry. I thank Alora and promised to visit her before running out of there.
Closing the door behind me, I rashly go make my way to my suite, I notice everyone is running around and the guards are out of order.
I squint my eyes and stop, what's going on? I slowly make my way to the huge foyer. Everyone is there, Rayan, and his brothers, alongside, Darren and of course that spoiled brat Olivia. I groan in annoyance, why is she always around my man?!
I push the door open roughly and instantly regret it as all eyes turn to me.
Jasper and Enol get out of their seats just as Rhodes and Meredith rush to me.
"What's going on?" I ask. They scatter from me as Rayan approach.
He cups my face and asks,
"Where were you? I was so worried when your ladies said they couldn't find you,"
I glance at Rhodes, she is still inspecting me with her eyes. I sigh and face Rayan.
"I was at the library," I ask, eyeing Olivia behind, she looks disappointed.
" Lucy, you should have informed someone, brother was making a ruckus," Jasper sighs, glaring at his brother.
"Enol, order the men to come back,"
The youngest prince stands up and walks to me. He kisses my hair and Rayan growls, he laughs before jolting out of the room at full speed.
.
Darren waves at me but he doesn't look too pleased, he keeps checking the time on his watch.
"We have missed the presentation and the board members aren't pleased,"
"Well, go fix it," Rayan hiss.
"I can't, can we talk for a minute?" He requests.
Rayan seems reluctant to leave but Darren is looking impatient. He kisses my temple " Don't leave yet, I'll be back,"
I watch Rayan, Jasper, and Darren leave.
I turn to Rhodes and Meredith they have a similar scowl on their faces. I sheepishly smile at them.
"I'm sorry, I wanted to go to the library," I shrug, why was everyone giving making it a big deal?
"
Omg," I hear an irritating voice. I roll my eyes, what does she want.
I turn to Olivia and offer my best fake smile.
"Prince Rayan missed an important meeting because he thought something happened to you," she snarls. I glance over to the other room where the three men seem to be in a heated conversation. I feel guilty. "I didn't know," I say timidly.
"Of course, you didn't! I wouldn't expect you to understand how important being the head of the werewolf race is, you shouldn't cause prince Rayan any more stress," she says seriously. Rhodes approaches her but I raise my hand to stop her and she obliges. "I know the royal family values you and all but don't use that to your advantage in your attention-seeking scheme,"
"Excuse me. I didn't -" she cuts me with her words
"Things are a mess with the packs and these f*****g leeches, don't add on top of the princes' problems as well," Olivia is messaging her temple. She blinks several times.
"
Lucy, know your place, please,"
I raise my eyebrows at her last remark, I've heard enough s**t from her. I take a step towards her stealthily and cross my arms against my chest.
"Trust me, love, I know my place in this family, I suggest you take your advice and stay far from Rayan," Olivia's eyes are changing between her normal color and black. I swallow and take a step back. She seems pleased when I do. 'No, no, no. You won't let this vixen challenge us. The prince chose us,
'us?'
'we are one, remember and this b***h aren't gonna disrespect me and let her get away with it,'
'girl, relax,' I tame her. I have a few words for this woman. I take a step closer and she backs away slightly.
"Listen to me, I have the king and Queen's favor to my side, so don't think you can intimidate or boss me around, this should be the last time you talk to me in such a manner," I warn her.
I might not beat Olivia in a fight but I'll sure use what all I can. I don't want to be threatened by anyone but most of all, I won't be belittled.
Even if I will have to be cunning and considered bad.
I sigh as her demeanor shrinks completely, no more is she bold or glaring at me.
"Your parents may be at the top of the food chain around here but just know that I will hold a greater position. I know for a fact that I'll come over you in this family and the princes life," I smile at her. "just how dare you, you little-" she is stuttering now.
"Oh Olivia, why do you always want to look perfect? Do you know what I think? Inside you will always be that little girl who is scared of being rejected by everyone,"
Rhodes told me that her chosen mate rejected her and chose another. She turned to food and gained weight so people bullied her for her drastic gain.
Olivia hated herself, she thought she wasn't pretty enough, therefore, spent millions to buy herself a perfect body so no one can bully and reject her ever again. No one can come second to her. I go to my room and calm my breaths.
A soft knock resounds from the door and I already know who it is. Pisces is squealing in my head.
'my prince, my prince,' I roll my eyes and get into the covers, I feel a bit cold from being in the library and I'm upset that he keeps that woman around even if we are now In a relationship. Rhodes is standing in front of me, watching me intently.
"Should I open it?" Ara asks. I sigh and nod my head, Rayan walks in, the ladies exit the room as Rayan seats on the edge of my bed. His hand reaches out to touch my neck. "Are you unwell," he asks, concerned.
"I'm just a little cold," I croak. He pulls the covers up to my neck.
" Lucy, you just can't leave without telling anyone," he starts. Again with this?
"I'm sorry," I sigh
"Don't apologize," he is quick to say. I squint my eyes at him, he's suddenly upset. He takes in a deep breath.
"You did nothing wrong," he says in a gentler tone. He is stroking my hair like he usually does.
"Why did you go to the library?" He asks.
" 'Nothing important,"
"Are you upset with me?"
"No,"
"Yes, you are," He argues, since I don't want to seem like a jealous girlfriend, I fake a smile and get up, hugging him.
"I'm not upset, I was just missing my parents," I know low blow but it's the only way he won't question. His arms immediately wrap around my frame.
And we stay in an embrace for a long time.
I pull away " Go to your meeting now,"
I know he is missing work just to be with me, I don't want to be the reason he's overworked or not doing well.
"It's fine-" he start but I cut him
"I want to rest,"
Rayan looks surprised but I smile encouragingly. I even force a yawn and lie down.
I close my eyes. He kisses my temple.
"Text or call me, please," he whispers but I don't respond. I hear the door open and close.
