The Alpha's Unwanted Mate -
The Alpha’s Unwanted Mate Chapter 126 Book 2 Chapter 58
In a minute or so, Celia pulled away from Celeste, wiping the few tears that tainted her cheeks. “Let’s go…and don’t go around telling people I cried because of you.”
“Like I have anybody to tell.” Celeste swiped her blond hair behind her ears, leading the way back to the top of the dungeon. There were two paths, adjacent stairs that lead to two different places, the side on the left was where Celia had been and the right side is where Xavier and the rogues Zillon caught last night were.
Celeste stepped down the opposite path, her heartbeat quickening as she did so. She hadn’t spoken to Xavier since the last time she confirmed just what she had been to him and she wasn’t sure where this encounter would take her.
She could smell his scent and she wasn’t sure if she was just being delusional, but she could scent Zillon’s as well. Nevertheless, she continued on her way down, and to her surprise, Zillon sat in front of Xavier’s cell, legs folded in front of him and nothing but silence escaping his lips.
Celeste looked back at Celia. “What is he doing?”
“I think you should be asking him that, not somebody just as clueless as you.”
“Right…” Celeste quickened her steps, stopping only a step away from Zillon who was already staring up at her. “What are you still doing here? I thought you left after you brought me in…”
“As if I’d leave you alone with people I’m not even sure I can trust.” He glanced at Celia, then refocused his obsidian eyes back on Celeste. “I was waiting for you back at the exit, but just now decided to come down here…your friends are three cells down, you can go talk to them, I’ll be here if you need me.”
Celeste nodded, her eyes glancing over at Xavier who sat in the very corner of his cell. He looked even worst than he did the last time they came down here…his lips were chapped, even as he drank water from the wooden cup in his hand.
It honestly pained Celeste’s heart to see him like this…he had such a lively spirit before now, he had been so playful and generous and now he was locked behind bars, barely eating anything. She pitied him. “I’ll…I’ll cook you something…don’t leave without it.”
And then she continued on her way down, Celia a step behind her. “What is he like?” She whispered. “Not that I care, but I’m curious, I’d like to know.”
“He’s one of kindest persons I’ve ever met in my life…he doesn’t deserve this.”
“He does.” Celia clenched her jaws and walk up in front of Celeste. “Are they your friends?” She asked, changing the topic.
“Yes…” Celeste answered as she grabbed onto the bars. “Gabriel!”
Gabriel’s eyes quickly fluttered towards her, his nakedness covering his mate’s who remain asleep beside him. “Celeste…? I thought I was just imagining it…I smelled your scent, but then I doubted it was you.”
“Are you guys okay?”
Gabriel shook his head. “We’re barely getting by without him, we have no one to lead us and upon coming here, we almost lost our lives. He doesn’t seem to be doing well either…I saw him upon coming in, he’s suffering Celeste, help him please…”
“He’s getting out today, he’ll be going back with you guys.”
“What about you?”
“I…” Celeste held down her head. “I won’t be coming back, I’m a Luna here and I know you guys might think that I betrayed Xavier and that I betrayed you…but I-I didn’t.”
“You can’t stay here, there’s a war in three days, come back with us, you’ll be safer away from here. The royals are coming, they killed everyone I brought here along with me, they would’ve killed Davia too if I hadn’t found her, it was a scary experience. The man didn’t even have to switch forms to take them down, he remained in his human skin and was able to take down wolves. There were men behind him and yet none of them touched the victims, it was just one man, one man who killed them all and he was smiling while doing so.”
A tingle ran down Celeste’s back, not the good type, the bad type. If that was true, then did this man enjoy murdering people?
Just the thought of him scared Celeste, she wouldn’t want to come across him any day. It wouldn’t take much effort from him to rip her apart, after all, she couldn’t even defend herself, but still she wouldn’t run with her tail between her legs like a coward, if the pack was going down, then she’d go down with it, she was a Luna and that was what Luna’s do.
“Even so, I can’t leave the pack behind, I’m their Luna, if I run away, what will they think of me?”
“We thought of you as our Luna too…”
Celeste looked away. “You’ll get a real Luna soon…” She looked back at Celia. “Xavier found his mate and it turns out that…that it’s my twin sister…she’s stronger, faster, she’ll be a better Luna than I could ever be. She has the b***d of a beta too, unlike me who’s just an omega. She’ll protect you guys, do more than I ever could.”
Gabriel looked over at Celia, then back at Celeste. “Nobody can ever replace you, she might be your twin, but I know she’s not anything like you.”
“Gabrie—”
“Go…my mate’s resting, you’ll wake her if you speak anymore.”
Celeste shook her head. “I’m not going anywhere Gabriel. I came down here to let you guys out, Zillon gave me permission.”
“Don’t bother, we’ll go when Xavier’s ready.”
“But—”
“Think about what I said regardless of who’s Luna you are, I wouldn’t want to see you die…go, we’ll stay until Xavier’s ready.” He turned away from her after that, his fingers running delicately through his mate’s hair.
Celeste’s feet hesitated before she finally decided to walk away. She felt bad, she felt as though she was abandoning them. They treated her so well and this was her payment to them.
Making it back over to where Zillon was, she handed him the key. “I…I suppose you need privacy. I’ll go and please could you set the rogues free when you’re done for me.”
“I don’t need privacy, you can stay. I’ll walk you back home.”
“That’s okay, I have Celia.”
Zillon glared at Celia. “I still don’t trust her.”
“But I do…I’m going to cook for them before they leave, and I heard the guards have only been feeding the prisoners down here sardines and rice. They might be traitors and rogues, but nobody wants to eat the same thing everyday.”
“So you’re telling me that you’re going to cook for all my prisoners?”
“I…well…yes.”
“Celeste, please just go home and sleep, you’re too kind.”
Celeste pouted. “Then can I at least cook for my friends?”
“No, cook for yourself and me… just me.”
“No!”
