The Alpha's Unwanted Mate -
The Alpha’s Unwanted Mate Chapter 81 Book 2 Chapter 13
All Zillon could see were trees, nothing but trees as he ran through the woods. He was in his wolf form, the passing wind slithering through his dark gray furr as he sped like flash through the night.
The trackers were upfront, their nose being their eyes which made it quite logical for them to lead the way. Behind Zillon was Liam and Fredd, but not only them, you could hear the running feet of a loyal pack…men ready to go to war for him and their Luna if they ever had to.
He didn’t ask them to come, but it seems they knew he was anxious, they knew he was desperate. He caught them all in the bushes beyond his house, hiding as though he couldn’t scent them.
He had been so cruel to them these past months and yet they were still by his side…how commendable…
Zillon skidded to a stop when the trackers up front did so, they’re nose buried in the dirt as they scented it out. It was very dark out, the moon was only half full tonight and if it weren’t for the fact that they were wolves who saw tremendously in the darkness, then he didn’t know how he’d go about searching for Celeste.
The pain in his chest had yet to wholly subside, but he was recovering from it. It was slow, but at least it was sure.
Trotting forward, he approached his men, mindlinking them. “What? What’s the problem?”
“We’ve picked up a scent, it’s fresh and yet it’s indistinct, but it leads to nowhere.”
“Follow it, but first, where does it end?”
“At the end of this road…”
“Alright, go…”
The men ran off and Zillon quickly followed them. He hadn’t heard of this before, a scent being fresh and yet indistinct. If a scent was fresh, then it should be strong, but it turns out, he couldn’t even smell it…
What was going on?
Minutes later, Zillon stood at the very end of the road —right before a cliff— wondering why the scent had ended there. They had searched this place spotless and no one was here, but did they search the bottom of it?
They didn’t, but was it possible for someone to hide at the bottom of a cliff? There was nothing but rough waters and rocks that were sharp enough to kill, who’d take that risk?
Not many, but how could Zillon be sure if he didn’t look properly?
Transforming back into his human form, he turned to his wolves. “Do you guys smell anything more?”
The trackers shook their heads.
“Then do you think something could be below it? It’s rocky, but there’s water down there. If I jump, there’s a high chance of me getting hurt but I’m a wolf so there’s also a high chance of me surviving.”
The lead tracker shifted back into human form as well, wanting to speak verbally to his alpha. “Yes, but there’s nothing down there… Nobody could dwell in a place like that…”
“And yet I wouldn’t know if I don’t try.” Zillon looked down at the cliff. “I’m going down, you guys wait for me here, if you don’t get a mindlink in more than 15 minutes, then Liam you take over as beta and bring my pack back home…”
“Then at least climb lower first…it will lower the risk of you getting hurt.”
Zillon nodded, twisting on his heels. He had to search every place possible, he had to find her, he had to take her away, he had to take her back home.
With a breath of hope, he climbed down, hanging on to the edge of the cliff as he situated his foot on the stony path below.
He climbed with caution and yet the moment he his hand on the cliff edge loosened, he found himself sliding down. His bare skin scraped against the pointed rocks and panic washed over his heart as the water did to the stones below until he was hanging off of an abandoned tree limb.
Relief filled him, his eyes cautiously looking down at the hell that he’d have to have to jump in. He looked back up, searching for somewhere to put his hand when he saw an opening, or rather a cave on left of where he was. He wasn’t sure what could be inside, but he carefully climbed over to it, struggling to get inside.
He opened the mind link to Liam alone. “I found a cave, it’s dark inside but there’s a path, should I continue in or jump like I had initially came down here to do?”
“Check it out first…”
Zillon nodded, slowly moving forward. He could smell the salty water, the stones, the dirt, but he could pick up no scent of another werewolf. The urge to turn back, was strong, but he continued when he found a path leading down to the left.
“What do you see, alpha?”
Zillon scratched at his head. “Nothing, I see nothing but a freaking endless path, it’s cold down here especially since I’m wearing nothing but my skin and the rocks beneath the little water settled on the floor are sharp and they keep stabbing into the bottom of my feet, but for her I’d endure anything.”
He quickened his steps as he continued down the path, not stopping until he stepped out of the cave and onto flat land. He looked around, finding nothing but trees. He stepped further down, sniffing the air, but of course he got nothing.
Sighing, he turned back… disappointment filling him as he walked back towards the cave…what did he expect? What did he really think?
That he’d find Xavier hiding against one of the rocks and Celeste hiding beside him?
He was a fool, stupid, incompetent and stupid agai—”
Zillon stopped walking when the little breeze that blew separated the bushes that reside just outside the cave he had previously came out of, showing to him another.
He walked over to it, shoving the bush aside and entering… Once again, the rock under his feet acupunctured it, but despite that, he continued on, finding something he never thought he could…
Land…
Lights…
Houses…
And even if he couldn’t see or smell them, he knew people were down there…
He opened up the mindlink to Liam again. “Do you guys know if a pack is anywhere near here?”
“No, how could there be a pack so close to our borders?”
“Then I think…I think I found them…”
“Stay right where you are, don’t move…there could b—”
Zillon cut off the link, not hesitating before transforming back into his wolf and running right off into what he was sure was the devil’s laire.
