THE BILLIONAIRE IS INFATUATED WITH HIS EX-LOVER -
Chapter 8: Sara continues to work at LT
Nine in the morning....
The phone rang insistently, jolting Jessica out of her sleepiness. Her head pounded from last night's excess of alcohol, her eyes barely open as she struggled to answer the call, silently cursing whoever dared disturb her so early. "Hello! Who..."
"Jessica, what are you doing? Hurry up and come pick me up; I'm running late," Sara's voice was urgent and rushed, catching Jessica off guard. "Where are you going so early?" Jessica was still groggy, unconsciously unaware of what was happening.
"Hurry up and take me to the company; I'm about to be late," Sara urged, growing more impatient by the second, feeling increasingly anxious. "What's the big deal if you're late?" Jessica felt like she was in a daze, not fully grasping the situation unfolding before her.
"It's not allowed; I must be on time; it's company policy."
"Since when do you care about company policies? But which company?"
Jessica still hadn't fully woken up; after all, just last night, Sara had declared she wouldn't be going to work anymore, so why the sudden rush? "The LT Cosmetics Company."
"What??? Who said..." Jessica sat up abruptly, causing her pillow to tumble off the bed. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. Sara had vehemently declared that she was quitting her job the previous day, and now she was in a hurry. "Never mind, don't ask too many questions. It's nine o'clock; it's still early. Could you hurry up and help me? I'll tell you the whole story later when we have time," Sara paced anxiously, her eyes fixed on the clock. Grabbing her bag and slipping on her shoes, she headed downstairs.
Seeing her daughter in such a frenzy surprised Sara's father, who was enjoying his morning tea in the living room. He spoke up, puzzled, "Where are you off to in such a hurry?" "I'm going to work."
"Going to work," Mr. Roberts glanced at Mrs. Laly with utter astonishment.
"Going to work? Did I hear that right?" Mrs. Laly remained silent, displaying equal surprise.
As Sara reached the gate, Jessica arrived. As soon as she sat down, Sara began urging her, irritating Jessica.
"If you're in such a rush, why didn't you just call a taxi and wait for me?"
"I trust your driving abilities; that's why I called you. Focus on driving," Sara insisted.
Jessica forcefully stepped on the gas pedal, causing the car to speed up. Startled, Sara refrained from reprimanding her due to the situation's urgency.
"Sara, why the change of heart? If Leon is no longer worth your affection, don't burden yourself anymore."
"This time, I'm not returning because of Leon but for myself."
"For yourself?"
"Yes. I need to become skilled and learn various business strategies to become a formidable competitor, someday defeating him."
After finishing, Sara glanced sideways, noticing Jessica was still listening intently but perhaps not fully understanding.
"My friend, don't worry. I'll take this job seriously and seize the opportunity to learn communication skills, negotiation techniques, and product promotion... I'll learn as much as I can, and I won't give Leon a chance to flaunt anymore. Just the thought of him makes me sick now. I will make him regret his actions."
"Ultimately, it's still because of Leon," Jessica shook her head, knowing Sara would never forget those two words: "Leon."
Upon arrival at the company, Sara exited the car and walked in despite the security guard's attempt to stop her.
"I have a very urgent business; please let me through."
The security guard hesitated, not knowing what urgent matter she had at this hour. Before he could inquire, she had already walked inside. He watched as Sara disappeared, shaking his head and chuckling inexplicably.
Sara didn't see anyone around in the lobby, feeling somewhat peculiar. It was nine, and everyone should have been at work by now, but they seemed to be later than her. Without much thought, she took the elevator straight to her office. Sarah immediately began her work as she set her bag on the desk. Occasionally, she wondered why she didn't see Leon and Mark. Why weren't they at work today?
Just as she was deeply engrossed in her work, her phone beeped with a message.
"Tonight, Luxury has a special performance program for the last Sunday of the month, and you and Jessica are invited to attend. I've already reserved seats for both of you." Henry always felt delighted whenever he had plans with Sara, so he prepared meticulously for their outings.
"Sunday!" Sara exclaimed loudly upon reading the message, as if she wanted the entire company to know she was a model employee who even worked on her days off without pay. Sara scratched her head, wondering why she couldn't remember the days of the week anymore. Since leaving the house, her father's demeanor and the security guard's had been unusual. She stomped her foot in frustration but felt something was amiss.
"Oh my god!" Sara had mistakenly worn a pair of Hello Kitty cat-shaped furry slippers inside the house without realizing it. She felt genuinely embarrassed, not knowing where to hide her face.
Throughout the day, Sara diligently worked alone, having a cup of instant noodles for lunch. She seized the opportunity to finish all pending tasks. She was the only one in the vast company there, and the eerie silence was unsettling. Sara went up to the rooftop to breathe fresh air. From there, looking at the neighboring buildings below made her feel she could encompass everything within her sight.
Sara recalled the time she went mountain climbing several years ago. She thought she would never reach the summit at the foot of the mountain, but after more than a day, she successfully conquered it. She silently pondered that there are many things in life that one believes they can never achieve, but in reality, they haven't tried hard enough.
Indeed, Leon must have thought the same way, so he has tirelessly strived to become a successful entrepreneur. Sara wondered what her father would think if he ever met Leon again.
Suddenly, Sara remembered the words Leon had spoken yesterday. Perhaps he had been looked down upon and ridiculed many times before he attained his current position.
Sara didn't want to think about this person, but his presence lingered faintly in her mind. She didn't know if her judgment of Leon was correct, but his attitude towards her now felt distant.
Leon was right; he had become more capable and confident, while Sara remained just a wealthy heiress, living comfortably, thanks to her talented father, without additional skills.
