Isaac slammed the laptop shut upon hearing the news. "What's going on?"

"Mom went on a blind date."

Daniel relayed truthfully, "Grandpa really liked him, and Mom seemed pretty into him too."

Isaac hadn't seen this coming. Brittany, fresh from her vacation, choosing to dive into the dating scene was a shocker.

"What did your mom do with him?"

"They had dinner."

"Look, you need to keep an eye on her for the next few days, make sure she doesn't get too chummy with strangers, got it?"

"But what if Mom wants to go-" Daniel hesitated.

"Then you tag along. Gives me a chance to scope out the competition."

Brittany agreeing to a blind date was beyond Isaac's wildest expectations. But then again, he figured, he had probably scared her off.

After hanging up, Isaac fired off a video call to Elijah: "We need to speed things up. I've got three months tops to go public." Ever since his car accident, to the outside world, Isaac was as good as dead. Now, he was just one of Elijah's executives. "Why the sudden rush?" Elijah was curious. Isaac wasn't known for being impulsive.

Isaac thought to himself, if he didn't act fast, he'd lose his wife for good!

"Just do it."

Elijah, sensing something off, did some digging and found out about Brittany's date with Willard. Everything clicked. "All for a woman, huh."

His assistant frowned. "He's really gone head over heels for her."

Falling off a cliff for Brittany nearly cost him his life, and yet, here he was, still completely fixated on her.

Elijah shrugged, "Guess that's love for you."

He himself felt no need for it.

...

Brittany and Willard stayed in touch, greeting each other daily. Willard was careful not to overstep, which Brittany found comforting.

Come the weekend, Brittany was up early. Daniel, clutching his pillow, peeked into the master bedroom: "Mom, where are you off to?"

Brittany, done up in light makeup, was a departure from her usual crisp and clean appearance. She slipped into a black mermaid skirt paired with a white blouse, radiating feminine allure without being overly sensual. "I'm off to an art show."

Alarm bells rang in Daniel's head.

"Mom, are you going on a date?"

Panic set in. What if Dad came back and Mom was out on a date?

"Not really."

Brittany shook her head. She and Willard were still just friends, not quite a date.

Daniel put down his pillow: "Can I come with you?"

"That won't do, honey. I've made plans with a friend."

If she had told Willard beforehand about bringing Daniel, it might have been fine. But showing up unannounced with Daniel would be rude.

Daniel looked crestfallen: "Then, I'll just stay home."

"What about Grandpa?"

Seeing her son's sad puppy eyes, Brittany caved: "Isn't Grandpa at home?"

"Grandpa has work this afternoon; he can't stay with me."

Blinking bravely, Daniel tried to look strong: "It's okay, Mom. You go on your date. I'll be fine at home."

Brittany, defeated by her son's gaze, conceded: "Alright, I'll ask."

After messaging Willard, who happily agreed, Brittany dressed Daniel up, prepared a thermos of honey water for him, and they headed to the car, off to the art show. Daniel, remembering Isaac's words, plotted in the car, determined to keep any man from getting too close to his mom!

Brittany drove carefully, especially with her little one in tow.

Arriving at the bustling art show, Brittany parked and helped Daniel out of the car.

"Ms. Lynette."

Willard was already there, waiting.
