Brittany knew deep down that she couldn't get herself to agree to this arranged marriage, but her family's hands were tied. "You should meet with Alexander."
Brittany didn't want to put Yuri in a tough spot: "I understand, Dad."
"You mentioned you already have a boyfriend. Given how things have escalated, have you broken up with him?" Brittany froze.
Not only had she not broken up, but her boyfriend was currently hiding out in her room.
Yuri saw her reaction and knew the answer: "Bri, it's better if you end things sooner rather than later."
If the royal family found out, there was no telling what they might do.
Brittany closed the door behind her, feeling disheartened.
Isaac emerged from the walk-in closet, wrapping her in a reassuring hug, "Don't worry, I'll be fine." Brittany clung to his neck, "I'm meeting Alexander this afternoon. I'll try my best to make him dislike me." She couldn't oppose the marriage outright, but maybe she could make Alexander find her repulsive! Isaac thought Brittany was being overly naive. If Alexander had any say, would they even be in this situation? Still, he said soothingly, "Okay."
After Isaac left, Brittany applied heavy makeup and dressed in the most daring dopamine dressing of the season. As she descended the stairs, the family chauffeur couldn't hide his shock.
"Miss, are you sure you want to dress like this for the meeting?"
The red top clashed with the green skirt, a combination that was nothing if not eye-catching.
Brittany's face, hidden under layers of makeup, added a hint of the exotic, "Just like this."
Brittany got into the car: "Let's not keep Alexander waiting."
Meanwhile, at a five-star restaurant.
Alexander had arrived early, curious about the much-talked-about Brittany.
Though they hadn't met, he'd heard of Brittany's remarkable abilities and stunning beauty.
Even though it was her second marriage, he didn't mind.
However, when Brittany arrived at the restaurant, Alexander's smile twitched at the sight of her outfit.
The red blouse paired with a green maxi skirt, and the heavy makeup contrasted sharply with the information he had gathered about her.
But what caught Alexander's attention were her eyes. Despite the heavy makeup, they shone with an innate brilliance that makeup couldn't dull.
Brittany walked straight up to Alexander, aiming to be as rude as possible: "You're Alexander?"
Alexander rose, the epitome of a gentleman: "Ms. Lynette, it's a pleasure to meet you."
Brittany could tell by the warmth in his eyes that her plan had failed.
Dropping the act, she shook Alexander's hand: "I suppose you've already figured out that I'm not exactly thrilled about marrying you. Maybe you have someone else in mind too, so perhaps we could..." "I'm quite pleased with this arrangement."
Alexander's response caught Brittany off guard.
"You're pleased?"
Brittany hadn't expected Alexander to be so compliant. Frowning, she said, "I've been married before, and I have a child."
"I'm aware."
Alexander poured Brittany a cup of tea: "Mr. Lynette mentioned you enjoy tea. Please, take your time."
Brittany was puzzled: "You don't mind my past?"
"Why should I?" Alexander chuckled softly: "If there's anything about me that Ms. Lynette finds unsatisfactory, I'm willing to change."
Feeling a headache coming on, Brittany confessed, "To be honest, I'm in love with someone else."
"I believe that if we get to know each other better, maybe Ms. Lynette might change her mind."
Seeing Alexander's determination, Brittany felt defeated and started removing her makeup with a wet wipe in front of him, finally saying, "Actually, I came here today hoping to change your mind." "But I find myself quite taken with Ms. Lynette."
Alexander's smile was warm: "In fact, we've met before."
"Have we?"
Brittany was surprised. If they had indeed met before, how could she have no recollection of it?
