The Billionaire's Forbidden Longing -
Chapter 115 So That's Why
If it weren't for Sloane's antics, the Grey Group and the Carter Group wouldn't be in this mess. Basically, the Grey family messed up big time.
Sloane's dad tried to talk to Alexander's dad, Aiden, a bunch of times, but Aiden never budged. Even he didn't think much of Sloane.
"I gave you a chance, Mason. You shouldn't have come this time," Alexander said, looking seriously at Mason. Mason got the hint.
"If I were you, I'd team up with the Bennett Group. It might be the Grey Group's last shot at survival," Alexander added, making Mason's face go pale.
Telling Mason to go to the Bennett Group was like asking him to eat dirt. Alexander's real goal was to crush any hope the Greys had left of forming an alliance with the Carters.
Nobody messed with the people Alexander cared about, no matter who they were. This was the last chance he was giving the Grey family.
After leaving the Carter Group, Mason was fuming and called home right away. "Because of Sloane, our company is about to go bankrupt. Stop dreaming and send Sloane abroad immediately. Otherwise, I can't save the company!"
The more Mason thought about it, the angrier he got. He and Alexander had been on good terms, but Sloane kept pushing to marry him. If it was mutual love, fine, but Alexander didn't like her at all.
Sloane knew that Alexander wasn't interested in her, yet she kept pursuing him over and over again. Even Mason, her own brother, couldn't stand it, let alone Alexander.
Meanwhile, Allison and Mia were picking veggies at a farm. Even though Allison had more life experience than Mia, it was her first time at a place like this. The huge estate had all kinds of fruits and veggies, many of which Allison couldn't even name. An old guy named Hawk Hill was there to explain everything.
"This is the tomato garden. We have over seventy varieties here, all chosen for their great taste. Ladies, feel free to try some!" Hawk said warmly.
Mia picked two yellow tomatoes and handed one to Allison. After tasting it, she was thrilled by its sweetness. "Allison, this is really delicious!"
Hunter, who was following them, chimed in, "This is my family's organic vegetable base. No chemical fertilizers or pesticides here; everything's organic. Mia, the veggies your family gets are all from here!"
Allison had to admit, the Shaw family's wealth and power were beyond her expectations. She thought they were just in the hotel and restaurant business, but they had a unique approach that involved owning and managing the entire service chain, starting right from the source.
"Hunter, you've really impressed me!" Allison praised.
For someone young to take over a family business was rare. Even Felix refused to inherit his family business, despite its immense wealth. He just didn't want to be tied down by his family.
But Hunter was different; he turned it into his passion. He was indeed very capable, far beyond what his laid-back demeanor might suggest.
"Actually, I lived here when I was very young. After my mom had me, her health wasn't great, so she stayed on the estate to recover. I spent my childhood planting with Hawk. Every time I come here, it lifts my spirits," Hunter explained.

Besides supplying their own business, the Shaw family also ran a high-end veggie delivery service. Pretty much all the big-shot families in Skycrest got their produce from the Shaws. From grains to meat and eggs, and from fruits to veggies, the monthly bill was hefty. It suddenly hit Allison that she hadn't bought groceries since moving into her apartment; she'd been munching on Shaw family produce all along.
"This place is really nice," Allison said. "But managing such a big estate, I noticed Hawk's getting old and has trouble moving around. Have you thought about modernizing the management here?"
Hunter's eyes lit up. "As expected, Ms. Bennett, you have a sharp eye. I heard from James that you redesigned the Carter Group's firewall. I checked it out; it's perfect. Would you be willing to help my family by designing a management system for this place?"
Allison looked around and nodded. "Sure. I can use the latest AI tech to design a management system for you. It can measure soil moisture, track temperature changes, and detect pests. It can also mark different veggie zones, showing when to plant and harvest. We can create a comprehensive system."
If the whole estate was systematized, it would cut down on repetitive labor, making things easier for the employees.
"Can I make a request, Ms. Bennett?" Hunter asked after thinking for a bit.
Allison nodded, "Sure, go ahead."
"My request is that all the employees here must be retained. Even if machines take over their work, I don't want them to lose their jobs," Hunter said.

Allison looked at Hunter and smiled approvingly. "Mr. Shaw, your integrity is truly admirable! I'll arrange for someone to measure the land and create 3D maps. Then we'll design the system for different areas. This might take some time." As soon as Allison finished speaking, Hunter nodded in agreement. "Ms. Bennett, there's no rush. Take your time!"
Mia, holding a bunch of tomatoes, watched them talk but couldn't understand a word. "Allison, are you going to work for Hunter?"
Allison looked at Mia, picked up a tomato, and started eating. "Not really. Mr. Shaw asked me to design a program. I had nothing else to do anyway."
Mia frowned and turned to glare at Hunter. "Hunter, so that's why you invited us over! You wanted Allison to do some work for you without paying her? That's so sneaky of you! You're exploiting her!"
Hunter looked at Mia, rubbed his forehead, and said, "How could I not pay her? I've already prepared a $20 million check for Ms. Bennett. She'll get it when we return!"
Mia's mouth dropped open in shock, and it took her a moment to process what he said. "Allison, you're really good at making money. Maybe I should stick with you; that way, I'll never have to worry about a thing."
With that, Allison couldn't help but be amused by Mia.
While Allison and Mia were goofing around, Hunter suddenly lifted Mia up. He said, "Mia, who did you say you wanted to be with?
Hunter's eyes glinted with a hint of danger, making Mia lower her gaze guiltily. "I was just joking with Allison," Mia said, trying to appease him. Hunter seemed satisfied with her response. "Then tell me, who do you want to be with? Think carefully before you answer!"
