The Billionaire’s Secret Quartet (Thalassa and Elowen) -
Chapter 1123
"Looks like you've got yourself in hot water with your girlfriend, huh? Gonna chase after her and smooth things over." Ethan strolled over, leaning against the fence beside Lysander and watching Thalassa's retreating figure.
He teased with a grin, "When she called you her coach earlier, you two seemed pretty chummy. What happened, she beats Susan at mini-golf and suddenly it's goodbye Mr. Nice Guy? Are all women that fickle? Give me the lowdown so I can just give up on love already."
As Ethan spoke, he nudged Lysander's arm and looked at him sideways.
Lysander turned. His gaze was sharp and piercing as a gust of cold wind whipped around Ethan.
Feeling the intensity of Lysander's presence, Ethan quickly held up three fingers in a mock surrender, "Forget I said anything."
Lysander cast a fierce look at Ethan and strode away.
Ethan let out a long breath and patted his chest, muttering to himself, "All talk and no game, man. If you're gonna play, at least play for keeps."
He was curious about Lysander's secrets, but he knew those weren't the kind of stories you could just pry into without consequence.
The golf course was expansive, and it took Thalassa a good fifteen minutes to reach the clubhouse entrance, with its imposing step. She was so focused on the ground that she didn't see the person in front of her and accidentally kicked his leg - the same leg that was clearly injured and propped up by crutches.
"Ouch!" a pained voice exclaimed.
Instantly looking up, Thalassa apologized, "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I wasn't looking-"
One foot still inside, the other stepping out, she reached out to help the person she had inadvertently hurt. Then she recognized him and a look of surprise and delight crossed her face. "Callum, it's you!" she exclaimed
As she spoke, her hand steadied his arm. She was guilt-ridden that her inattention might have caused him more pain.
Callum, hearing the familiar voice, focused his gaze and saw Thalassa. A relieved smile broke across his gentle features, "Thalassa, what a coincidence."
"Totally," she replied, her hand still on his arm. Her eyes dropped to his leg encased in a cast and suspended slightly off the ground to avoid contact.
"Your leg..." Thalassa's breath hitched. Her tone was heavy with regret.
She remembered clearly the day Lysander had found her and the child and taken them away by helicopter. She had heard Callum's cries of pain as Lysander's bodyguard had beaten him. His leg must have been injured by Lysander's bodyguard then.
"I'm so sorry; this is all my fault," Thalassa said as shame and apology etched in her voice. If she hadn't asked Callum to help her escape, he wouldn't be in this condition.
Callum, seeing the worry furrowing her brow, maintained his gentle and calming demeanor, "It's alright. It'll heal with time. Don't blame yourself, or everything I've done would be for nothing." "Don't worry, I won't stay with Lysander forever. I'll find a way to leave him," Thalassa assured Callum with determination.
No sooner had she spoken than the air around them seemed to shift, a chill creeping in as if an unwelcome presence had drawn near.
