Angelina was at her wit's end. She'd been trying to pull Alaric out of the mire, yet he seemed determined to march to the beat of his own drum in the opposite direction.

No matter how hard Angelina tugged at him, he wouldn't budge, and it was wearing her down. When she heard his latest stunt, she was so furious, "You're driving me up the wall, you know? You think being an average Joe is easy? Don't forget, you're a Falconer. Do you really think you'll land on your feet once you're cut off from the Falconer fortune? Jeremiah will see to that!"

"Mom, it's not as grim as you're making it out to be..." Alaric tried to interject.

But Angelina had heard enough, "Enough! Since you've already bedded Georgia and there's an engagement in the works, just set a date and get married with her. It's non-negotiable." After laying down her words, Angelina stormed back to her room. She shut the door with a thud and took several deep breaths to calm her seething anger.

After college, Alaric had started working at the Falconer Group's headquarters, but within a year, he had been shuffled off to a branch office to serve as the general manager. Since that move, he'd changed. His once meticulous and ambitious demeanor had slackened, his passion had fizzled out, and he seemed utterly indifferent to the affairs of the main office. Worse still, he'd begun to squander his days in frivolity and excess.

Angelina had tried to find out what had happened during that pivotal year at the headquarters, but her son remained evasive, never addressing her concerns directly.

He wouldn't talk, and Angelina couldn't find any answers on her own. It was a mystery how a bright, motivated young man like him could be transformed into a cavalier playboy who acted as if the world's troubles were none of his business.

Watching Angelina retreat to her room, leaving no room for discussion, Alaric's frustration boiled over. He punched the table in anger.

He wouldn't marry Georgia!

What era did they think they were living in? Was he supposed to marry every woman he slept with? Besides, Georgia had been with others and hadn't been forced into marriage, had she?

Meanwhile, Thalassa was settling into her new job at the Crawley Group. Ethan had stopped by her office to drop off some paperwork.

As he was about to leave, Thalassa called out, "Mr. Ethan..."

Ethan paused and raised an eyebrow, "What's up? Got a bonus and want to treat me to dinner?"

His voice was lighthearted, teasing.

Thalassa offered a small smile, "Once the bonus comes through, dinner is on me. But I've got something else to ask you."

"Serious stuff?" Ethan straightened his collar, playing along.

"Yeah. Yesterday, a friend picked me up after work, so I got into his car. I'm not sure if you saw," Thalassa began, growing more puzzled by the second.

How on earth had Lysander found her and Callum at the restaurant, and to show up with such uncanny timing?
