Georgia wrapped her arms around Alaric, pressing her cheek against his back. It felt like he could feel her breath through the fabric, a gentle whisper against his skin.

A wave of repulsion surged deep within Alaric, and he shrugged her off, spinning around with a scowl. "Georgia, I've made myself crystal clear. I will never marry you in this lifetime! You're just wasting your time on me!"

His gaze was firm, laced with disdain.

From the get-go, he had never harbored any affection for Georgia. It was all his mother's doing, thinking she was clever, insisting on a union with the Reed family.

His protests fell on deaf ears.

He cursed himself; why did he let things go too far that drunken night three years ago?

Georgia's lips trembled, tears rolling down her cheeks. "Alaric, I've had a crush on you since middle school. It's been 13 years. Why can't you consider my feelings for once?"

"I'm telling you to move on for your own good! Don't tell me you don't understand!" Alaric's tone was icy.

Marrying a man who neither loved her nor could stand her tantrums would never bring her happiness.

Nor would he ever be content or willingly be a devoted husband.

Neither of them would find happiness.

Forcing this relationship would only destroy them both.

"But I truly love you. I can't live without you..." Georgia stepped forward, attempting to grasp his hand, her eyes brimming with tears.

Alaric recoiled, refusing to let Georgia touch him. His desire to turn and walk away whenever he saw her was strong; how could he possibly stand her touch?

"Please, have some dignity. Don't cling to someone like me, a regular guy. It's not doing your career any favors!"

He still remembered how Georgia, full of herself, had told him everything he had was thanks to the Reed Group. Without them, he was nothing!

How could he ever rise to be the vice president of the Falconer Group?

She was the Reed Group's heiress; he was supposed to cater to her, marry her!

Georgia paused, her words clearly hitting a nerve.

He'd rather walk away from everything than marry her.

She had truly driven him to embrace a life of mediocrity.

Jealousy, resentment, anger, and sorrow swirled in Georgia's heart.

What was so wrong with her that Alaric would rather give up wealth and status than marry her?

Georgia bit her lip, tears streaming down as she looked at Alaric. "What can I do to make you forgive me? I'll do anything you say, just forgive me."

"Find someone else to marry. You're the Reed Group's heiress; there must be plenty of men interested in marrying you," Alaric said.

Georgia became agitated, "No, I don't want anyone but you!"

"Didn't you just say you'd do anything I asked?" Alaric pressed.

"Anything but leaving you," Georgia quickly covered her previous statement's loophole.

"See, you're still the same as before, your word means nothing. You flip-flop faster than a pancake! Georgia, I've put up with you for three years, and it's always the same with you. You agree to things, then immediately show your true colors. I will never marry you in this lifetime!"

With that, Alaric's expression darkened further, and he turned to leave.
