Treating him like he was just some random guy, huh?

Makes sense, though. Alaric's reputation precedes him - a notorious playboy, his exploits are the talk of the town. Which self-respecting woman wouldn't keep her distance?

Especially given their... complicated history. She was right to worry he might lump her in with the kind of women he could easily flirt with.

But Alaric's earnest apology caught her off guard.

Seeing him looking so guilty, so sincere in his apology, the anger that had filled her seemed to deflate. Suddenly, she felt like maybe she'd been making a mountain out of a molehill. She let out a sigh, softening her tone, "You should leave; I need to rest."

"I was trying to explain about me and Georgia..." Alaric started, eager to clarify that marriage was off the table for him and Georgia, that even as an average Joe, he wouldn't tie the knot with her. But she cut him off, "Didn't you just say you wouldn't bother me? Were you lying?"

She didn't want to hear anything about him and Georgia.

Just the mention of their names together brought back memories of that night three years ago, of them sharing a bed, of what they'd done.

Those memories were like a thorn in her heart, painful at the slightest touch, so she avoided it at all costs.

"No," Alaric halted, quickly trying to reassure her.

With a downward glance of his long lashes, Alaric said, "Get some rest. I'll head back now. If anything comes up, call me. I'll be right over."

He lived just across the street, making it easy for him to come over anytime.

"I got it, now please, just go," she urged him out.

Without another word, Alaric left.

The moment the door closed behind him, her tense body suddenly relaxed, her heart racing as if it might stop.

She had genuinely feared Alaric had figured out she had secretly had his child.

But Alaric, being the unconventional thinker that he is, didn't go there. Instead, he thought her love for cartoon motifs at her age meant she was just young at heart, hence the playful decor. All in all, it was a relief he hadn't discovered the existence of the kids.

Leaning against the door from the inside, she took a deep breath.

Outside, Alaric stood by the closed door, feeling, despite the lack of admission, that she still cared about him.

Why else would she care so much about what he thought of her?

Plus, it had been three years, and she was still single, with no boyfriend in sight.

That had to mean she still harbored feelings for him, right?

As long as she was single, he believed there was still a chance for him.

With that thought, Alaric's long-clouded mood brightened significantly, a smile spreading across his face.

Back in his apartment, he grabbed his phone to call Ethan, "Ethan, lunch is on me tomorrow. Pick whatever you fancy."

Lucky for Alaric, Ethan had arranged for him to live in this neighborhood, right next door, no less.

Ethan was his guardian angel!

The fact that Ethan had arranged for him to live next door was a perfect coincidence, but indeed, Ethan had done him a huge favor. "What's up, struck gold?" Ethan teased over the phone.
