The Blood Moon Twins -
Chapter 119
CAULDER
"I'll get Harper; you get Remy," Blade said, already rushing towards Harper.
I understood why he said that. A vampire had his hands around my mate's neck, and as much as I wanted to kill him, the wolfsbane filling the air was already making me queasy. I trusted Blade to save Harper while I checked on Remy. She was curled on the floor, so I scooped her up into my arms and held her close to me. She was conscious, but just barely. She was pale, and her eyes were glassy.
"You're here," she whispered. She sounded exhausted as she spoke.
"I told you I would come," I said. "Now save your energy."
"You have to save Julie, too," Remy said.
I glanced around the room and saw Julie tied up on the floor, struggling against her restraints. I didn't understand why Julie was here and tied up, but I didn't want to leave her behind. Maybe she wasn't the traitor after all and had just gotten mixed up in the chaos of everything. "Okay. I'll get her out of here as well," I assured her.
I moved towards Blade, who was finishing off the second vampire with ease. He made these vampires seem weak in comparison to his own strength. When he was done, he helped Harper to her feet. She immediately looked at me, and when our eyes met, my heart skipped a beat.
Her mate bond had kicked in. I was sure of it, because even with the wolfsbane filling the air, her scent was overwhelming. The look in her eyes was like she was seeing the sunrise for the first time. I hadn't thought it was possible for her to become more beautiful, but she looked like an angel in the morning light. Every inch of my body screamed out to hold her in my arms, but I still had Remy.
"Let's get out of here," Blade said, bringing me back to the reality of our situation.
There were no vampires here at the moment, but if they realized we were breaking their prisoners free, I was sure they wouldn't hesitate to swarm us.
"Everyone grab onto me, and I'll shift us out of here," I said.
"You can do that?" Harper asked, looking at me with surprise.
"I hope so," I said. I hadn't shifted more than one person before, but my magic was buzzing from all of the adrenaline running through my veins. I knew it could reach limits I never thought possible before. "Grab Julie, and we'll get out of here." "We're not bringing her with us," Harper said with a firm voice. I had never heard more hatred come out of her voice before, and she was furious.
I didn't know what the story was with Julie, but I couldn't just leave her behind. Even if Julie was the traitor, it wasn't my responsibility to decide her fate. I was afraid to tell Harper this, though, because she was practically shaking at the mere mention of Julie. Harper wasn't the type to overreact, so I knew there was a story I was missing.
"Look, I trust that Julie did something bad, and I want to hear every detail as soon as we are all safe, but we don't have time to hear about that now. We have to get out of here before Draven finds us," I explained as calmly as possible.
The mention of Draven seemed to scare Harper more than the mention of Julie. She swallowed hard and nodded, deciding now was not the time to argue against this. "Just promise me she'll be locked up immediately."
"I promise." I looked at Blade and begged him with my eyes to be the one to grab Julie. I didn't want to put Harper in that position, especially because I didn't know if she was injured or what condition she was in.
Blade understood and moved towards Julie at once. Once Blade had Julie in his arms, Harper wrapped her arms around my waist, and Blade put his hand on my shoulder. I was about to shift out of here when I felt a suffocating presence behind me. I glanced out the door and saw a tall vampire staring at us. His eyes were a deeper red than the other vampires around here, and his aura was more intense than anything I had ever felt. He was ready to tear us all to pieces, and I knew this had to be Draven.
Part of me wanted to fight him right now for taking Remy and Harper, but Blade made it very clear that it wasn't a fight I could win. I still wanted to do something to hurt him. I glanced at the room around us, and an idea popped into my head. I created a fireball and sent it flying towards the wolfsbane. I wanted the poisonous plant and the rest of this bunker to go up in flames, so he couldn't use it against us again.
Smoke started to fill the room, and Draven's face twisted. Quickly, I directed my magic to shift us all out of the bunker. We couldn't afford to face Draven, especially with Remy in the condition she was in, so in the blink of an eye, we were standing in the forest outside of the bunker.
Vampires and werewolves were fighting all around us, and it was impossible to tell who was actually winning the fight. I knew I had to stay and help to help ensure the safety of the pack. I called over one of the warriors, who rushed towards us before a vampire attacked her.
"I need you to take this prisoner back to the pack house and make sure Remy and Harper get back safely, too," I said, commanding the warrior.
She shifted into her human form and took Julie from Blade's arms. "I will have others come escort the others as soon as they can."
"I'll take Remy back to the pack house. She needs to be checked out right away," Blade said. He stepped towards me and took Remy from my arms. He held her like she would break from the smallest wrong move, and I understood why. I hated seeing Remy looking so fragile. Harper put her hand on Blade. "She needs a blood transfusion. She's lost a lot of blood. I think she'll be okay if she gets that."
"Just tell Doctor Zayla this when you get back to the pack house," I said.
"I'm not going back with them." She stood tall and faced me with strength and determination. She was fired up and ready to fight. "I can feel that you are planning on staying, and I'm not leaving my mate's side again. I'm staying and helping fight. We need everybody to take out these roaches."
As if to prove her point, a vampire flew towards us, trying to attack. I sent a ball of magic flying towards the vampire, which knocked him back, but I knew that would only stun him temporarily. We didn't have time to have a long discussion about this. "Are you hurt?" I asked, looking her up and down. She looked a little scuffed up, but overall, she was in much better condition than Remy.
"Now that the wolfsbane isn't draining me, I'll be fine." She turned to Blade. "Take Remy back to the pack house now. We'll be there as soon as possible."
Blade looked at me, and I gave him a quick nod. Remy's health was more important right now, and I wanted Blade to stay with her, because I knew he would protect her no matter what.
I turned back to Harper, not happy that she wanted to stay and fight. I had just broken her free, and she wanted to put herself at risk again immediately. I couldn't stand the idea of losing her in a fight. I didn't even want her to get a single scratch on her head, but whatever happened in that bunker before we arrived had Harper twisted into knots. I could feel her emotions much clearer now, which made it easier to see that she needed to fight to let off some of her steam.
"Stay by my side. No matter what happens, I don't want to lose sight of you. I won't be able to focus if I can't see you." It was the only thing I would agree to. If Harper wanted to run off, I would lose it. I was sure about that.
Harper stepped forward and grabbed my head, pulling me into a deep kiss. This kiss was unlike any of our other kisses. I felt like the moment would last forever.
When we finally parted, she said, "I don't ever plan on leaving your side again."
