The Blood Moon Twins -
Chapter 146
LUNA ADIRA
My body froze as I saw Draven attack Cain. I knew I should've gone with him. I could've protected him and stopped him from getting hurt, but I had trusted him. He insisted he needed to go alone. If I was there, Winslow would have been more hesitant to take the deal and shake his hand. Cain had insisted he needed to be the one to poison Winslow. No one else would have been able to get the sorcerer to let down his guard.
I shifted to the medical tent where Kenzo had transported Cain. His face had already gone pale, and he gasped for air as one of the medical sorcerers tried to heal his wounded gut.
"Cain!" I said, moving to his side. My heart raced, and the fear I felt was worse than I ever imagined it would be. Cain wasn't my father in my eyes. He had betrayed me, but as I saw him fighting for his life on the gurney, my stomach twisted with the fear of him leaving this world. It was too soon, and there was too much unresolved tension between us.
"Go," Cain managed to croak. "They need you fighting on that field."
"I can help heal," I said. I ignored the glare from the sorcerer currently working on Cain. My offer to help was an insult to his skills, but I didn't care. I didn't want to just sit there while my own flesh and blood was dying.
"I poisoned Winslow. You need to make sure you kill him. You have to show the Council of Magic that they are not as invulnerable as they think. Teach them a lesson and show them this is not a war they can win." He started coughing, spitting up blood in the process. "Don't let my sacrifice go to waste."
I looked at the sorcerer who seemed to be resisting the urge to roll his eyes. "We've been trained for this. If you think I'm going to let my leader die, you're insane."
I gave a quick nod, knowing if I said anything else I would only upset the sorcerer more. "I'll make sure he pays."

CAULDER
Wolf. Sorcerer. Wolf. Blood. Teeth. Magic.
I stopped thinking as I moved from one enemy to another. Coal and Muddy took over my instincts, and I was switching from werewolf form to sorcerer and often mixing both at the same time. I was fully aware of every little movement I made as well as everyone around me. Time slowed around me automatically, allowing me to move faster than everyone else. I felt invulnerable with this switch of power.
The vampires didn't see me coming before I took them out. To the sorcerers attacking my pack members, I was just a puff of magic, gone just as fast as I came. I was winning every battle I faced, but somehow it still felt we were losing. I could feel a pain in my chest every time one of my pack members fell, and the pain was becoming more and more frequent. We had to do something to turn the tides, and we had to move quickly.
"To your left," Harper quickly linked.
My body moved on its own, avoiding the attack that was flying to my left side. I made brief eye contact with her before we both went back to fighting. There was a part of me always keeping an eye on Harper. Through our mate bond, I always knew where she was, so if she was suddenly overwhelmed, I could be by her side in a split second. While my goal was to win the battle, but making sure my mate stayed safe would always be my priority. "We need to find Draven and Winslow and take them out quickly," I linked to Harper.
Our plan was to cut off the head of the snake and hope the body died along with it. Without a leader to encourage them to fight, we theorized the enemy would quickly lose motivation. This wasn't their war after all. They were just pawns in this horrible game. They wouldn't benefit from winning. They would only suffer if they lost.
"This way," Harper indicated.
She moved through the battlefield with ease, taking out several vampires on the way. I stepped in and took care of any sorcerers that went after her. Her methods weren't as effective on the magic users, and I didn't want her to get hurt. Our teamwork was flawless. Harper moved with determination, and somehow she knew exactly where to go. It wasn't long before we came across Winslow, fighting off several werewolves and sorcerers from our side. We weren't the only ones who thought to take out Winslow. However, even with the bella donna Cain had poisoned him with, Winslow seemed to be holding his ground with a few sorcerers at his side.
I shifted into my human form and stood to face Winslow. I had faced and defeated him once, and I was prepared to do it again. Last time I had the element of surprise on my side, but this time I was stronger, and I wasn't alone.
"Is this worth all of this?" I shouted, drawing Winslow's eyes to me. I wouldn't hesitate to rip out his throat if he went after Harper again.
Winslow blasted everyone around him away from him and took a few steps towards me. "I was going to ask you the same thing. Is it worth all of the lives of your pack members falling? I know you can smell the blood of those filthy hounds soaking the ground. He was right. Werewolves were falling quicker than I had anticipated, and our pack was growing smaller by the second. There were children at the pack house who wouldn't have parents returning to them at the end of all of this. But I couldn't think about that right now. I couldn't let Winslow's words distract me.
I sent a blast of magic hurtling towards Winslow. Hesitation would lose this battle for me, and it would lose more lives. The council member had shown what kind of person he was a long time ago, and I wouldn't feel the slightest bit of guilt when he fell. Winslow deflected the attack and countered it quickly by sending his own attack towards Harper. I used my own magic to deflect his attack, and my blood instantly started to boil. A snarl rippled from my mouth, and I wanted to see Winslow's blood pouring onto the ground.
"If you don't give up now, I will kill that mate of yours," Winslow purred. He thought this threat would put him in a better position, but he was wrong.
This time it was Harper who snarled at him. She jumped through the air, ready to pounce on top of Winslow. His eyes widened as her wolf form lunged towards him. It was clear that he hadn't expected Harper to gun for him like that. He shifted out of the way at the last second, but I could feel his presence move through the air, and I knew he planned on attacking Harper from behind.
I shifted through the air, positioning myself directly between Harper and Winslow. He appeared and slung his attack at her, but I was already there to deflect the attack. This seemed to surprise him more, and I took advantage of the opportunity to attack him. I hit his side, and he shifted a few feet back, stumbling at the sudden attack.
"Get out of here," I begged Harper. It wasn't meant to be an order, but I was sure it came out that way.
"No," she countered. She didn't want me to protect her, but I couldn't stop my instincts from taking over. She was my mate, and I knew Winslow would do everything in his power to use Harper against me and distract me. I couldn't stand the thought of her getting hurt as Winslow tried to use her as a pawn, but I also knew I couldn't tell Harper what to do.
"Please be careful," I begged. My focus suddenly shifted from killing Winslow to protecting Harper.
"He's dead if he thinks he can just use me. I'm not the same girl I was when he stole you away from me." There was rage in every word that filled my head.
Harper moved quickly, trying to attack Winslow before he could get his feet under him again. This time he was ready for her and hit her with a blast of magic. She was tossed to the side, hitting the ground with a thud.
I barely heard her link me that she was okay before I went feral on Winslow. I threw attack after attack towards him, never letting up. He was shielding against my attacks, but I could tell his magic was waning, and he was struggling to keep up with my powers. Two other sorcerers came towards us, and I had to divert my attention to them to stop them from hitting me. I shifted behind one of them and used my magic to snap his neck. Harper took care of the other one.
By the time we were done, Winslow had a triumphant smile on his face. Before I could attack him again, he snapped his fingers, and Rido appeared in front of him. The sorcerer quickly wrapped his arm around Rido's neck and held up a magic knife to his throat.
