The Blood Moon Twins
Chapter 151

REMY

I screamed in frustration as I thought about everything that led to this moment. There had to have been something that could have stopped us from getting to this point. Maybe if I had let Blade go off on his own, he would have never found Draven. Or maybe I

should have insisted on him staying behind, despite his protests.

My mate was dying in my arms, and I felt completely hopeless. I was supposed to be this powerful entity that everyone wanted so they could do who knows what, but I couldn't even stop my mate from dying. Together, we were supposed to be the Daughter of Moon and Magic and the Son of Blood and Magic. Everyone said we were destined to do terrible things, but he was dying. We wouldn't be able to do anything together, good or evil. If only-

Wait. That was it. Blade wasn't the Son of Blood and Magic, because his magic had been stolen away from him. I reached into his pocket and pulled out the small bottle containing his magic. I could feel my own magic stirring in response to it and knew this was the only way. Maybe if Blade had his own magic, my healing magic would actually respond to his body and be able to save him.

I uncorked the bottle and lifted it up to his lips. His breath was barely there, and I knew he had minutes at best. I poured the contents of the bottle into his mouth and watched it swirl around. I didn't know if this was the proper procedure, but I hoped it was enough. I closed his mouth and pressed my lips against his.

"Please work," I whispered, holding my breath. I needed to stop crying and focus everything into healing my mate, but with each breath I took, another sob threatened to escape.

His body jolted as the magic started to take effect. My hands shook, terrified this would only make things worse-but I wasn't sure how they could get much worse. I pressed my hands against his wounds again and focused on healing him. This time, it felt like something was actually happening. My hands grew heated, but then the heat started entering Blade's body. He warmed at my touch, and his breathing became deeper.

I fluttered my eyes shut, pouring every drop of my powers into healing Blade. I needed him to live and to survive. I needed a future where he survived.

"Don't forget the things you told me," I whispered. "We have a future together, so don't stop fighting. Don't stop living."

My entire body glowed with strength and power I didn't even know I had, and I knew it was only because of the blood moon. I was using the powers bestowed on me from my ancestors to bring Blade back from the brink of death. I could feel them hovering around me, and I could practically see Rina by my side, giving me everything she ever had in order for me to create my new future.

My magic glowed so brightly that it blinded me. All I saw was a white light, and then everything went dark. My body froze, and even though I could still feel my magic burning hotter than ever, the world around me was gone. Darkness filled my eyes, and I could feel myself teetering on the edge of destruction.

"You can run, but you can't hide." The creature's dark voice felt like tendrils stroking my head, desperate to find me. The sound was very distant, and I knew the creature wasn't anywhere near me. It was searching, reaching for the power pouring out of my body, but I wouldn't let it distract me.

A moment later, the world around me returned, and my hands were no longer glowing. I felt drained from how much magic I had used to heal Blade. I looked down, and another sob escaped my lips. Yellow eyes were staring up at me, and Blade's chest heaved up and down at a steady pace.

"You saved me," he whispered.

I threw my arms around his body, and when he held me in return, I lost it. I knew I needed to pull myself together because there was still a battle raging on nearby, but I couldn't help it.

"I thought I lost you." My voice cracked, and I buried my face into his chest, inhaling his scent. It was stronger than ever, and I wanted to cling to it for just a moment longer.

"I'm here, thanks to you." He squeezed me, pulling me against him, and his heart pounded in his chest. He had been just as afraid as I had been, but I could hear his heartbeat, and it was strong and steady. He was alive.

Pulling myself together, I loosened my grip on him and pulled back. I wiped my tear-stained cheeks and helped him sit up. "We need to trigger the prophecy," I said.

His eyebrows furrowed together. "What are you talking about? I thought you wanted to wait to be safe."

"I know," I said simply. "But we are losing that battle. As is, we're not strong enough to defeat that creature. It is more powerful than I ever imagined. Even now, I can feel Caulder struggling to keep that thing contained." Blade didn't say anything. He was mulling over my words, and I couldn't tell if he agreed with me or not.

"I don't know how to explain how I know this, but I can feel that this is the only way. That creature wants me because it can use me as a vessel. I think if we mark each other and trigger the release of power here and now, then I can destroy it." My hands were steady as I spoke. I had been so unsure about all of this before, but now I had no doubts. This was the path we had to take in order to create a future filled with peace instead of war.

"This isn't how or where I wanted to do this," Blade said. He wasn't saying no, but I understood what he was talking about. I had imagined a romantic evening where we could enjoy each other thoroughly. I didn't want this to happen in a forest while the people I cared about were fighting for their lives.

"I know," I whispered. "But I need you to mark me."

CAULDER

My body was strained the moment Remy let go of me to help Blade out. I felt more powerful than I ever had as the blood moon stirred a power deep within me. I felt more in control than I did when breaking free from the Council of Magic, and I knew I was stronger, too. However, it still didn't feel like enough.

I was the only line of defense against this dark creature, and I could feel its rage pounding against the barrier I was holding around it. I gritted my teeth, prepared to give everything I had to stop this thing from destroying everyone around me.

I could feel its dark intentions, and I knew if it got what it wanted, it would destroy everything and everyone on this battlefield. It didn't care about the different sides fighting on the field. It didn't care if we were vampires, sorcerers, werewolves, humans, or whatever else. It just wanted to consume the life forces of everything around us.

Draven was a fool for thinking he could control this thing. Nothing could control it. Even now, my shields were merely holding it in place, and my magic was already starting to wane. I needed Remy to hurry, and I needed her to be right. "You're wasting your time," a deep voice said from behind me.

I glanced back and saw Draven stalking towards me. I couldn't tear my eyes away from the creature for very long, because I had to keep this shield up. I couldn't split my attention to Draven. I wasn't sure if I even had enough energy to spare to block any attacks. "I need help," I linked through the pack link. I just needed someone to distract Draven while Remy was figuring out her thing.

"I'm not wasting time. I'm fighting for what I believe in," I said through a clenched jaw. Sweat beaded down my forehead, and my muscles ached.

"You're fighting for a foolish dream, and you're going to die for it," Draven said. He was taking his time coming towards me. He liked to hunt. I could feel his excitement as the hair on my arms rose. He could have just attacked me while I was distracted, but he was being slow and patient. He was confident he could take me out, and so he wanted to have his fun first.

"Maybe," I said. My eyes wandered up to the moon, and slowly the eclipse moved to cover the moon completely. It was only halfway covered now, and each moment that ticked by made me stronger. It was the only reason I had been able to maintain this level of magic use. When the lunar eclipse reached its full peak, I would be at my strongest, but if Remy hadn't come back before then, the barrier would fall as the eclipse began to wane-if Draven didn't kill me before then.

"But if I die on this battlefield, then I'll die fighting for what I believe in," I continued. Harper was waiting for me. She risked her life to kill Winslow and protect this pack. I wanted to be just as strong as her and prove to her and everyone else that I was worthy of leading this pack. I didn't want to just be handed the title because I was born into it.

"Don't talk like that, boy," Ginger said, appearing next to me.

A wolf appeared from thin air next to her and lunged for Draven. The strong alpha energy emanating from him made it clear that it was my father without even looking at him. The pressure on my chest lifted just a little as my backup arrived. With their help, I would be able to hold out just a little longer.

"This will be fun," Draven said, jumping to fight my father. I heard the growls and echoes of the fight, but I didn't dare watch them. I needed to use my energy to maintain this shield. Plus, I trusted my father to handle someone like Draven.

"What do you need, boy?" Ginger asked, studying me closely.

"We need to keep this barrier around this creature. If it falls, it's all over," I explained.

"Say no more." Ginger held up her hands and added her own magic to the barrier.

The creature screeched at the addition of magic, but I instantly felt relief on my body. Ginger had just bought us more time.

"Remy, please hurry," I tried to link, but I couldn't tell if she could hear me from wherever she was. I waited for her to respond, hoping she could give me an update, but her response didn't come.
