The Broken Wolf
Chapter 36

“He should be here soon. Randall said he wasn’t far from the cave,” my father tells us. I nod in understanding, making note that he said his name- Benjamin. Benjamin and Lily Ulf, my biological parents.

“May I ask you something?” I say to Lily.

Lily nods. “Of course, dear.”

“Why did you lie when they brought you to the pack house to check me?” I ask the question that has been bothering me since she told me she is my mother. “Why didn’t you tell them the truth? They would have helped you.”

“By that time, a whole war was raging. Your father had continued with his attempts to work with humans, still thinking it was best for all wolves,” she says with a small sigh. “Even if we had told them and they had returned you to us, there was no guarantee that you would be safe from the king when he found out. Randall and Peter were close friends, so he had to have known they had found you. He would have questioned where you had gone.”

I nod, understanding their thoughts, but unsure that it’s what would have happened. “They really do love me, you know?” I tell them and they look a little surprised at me telling them. “I just thought that if I were you, I’d want to know that my daughter was cared for. They were good parents. My brother, too.”

“We know, Molly. We kept up with you, watching from a distance.” Benjamin says to me. “We thought if you went just across the border that a warrior would find you quickly and take you in, maybe you’d be sent to some nice omegas. I didn’t account for your break in the wards not being strong enough to cause alarm during a fight. After the third day, I had a warrior cross into their territory close to you so it would send men that way. I didn’t expect Randall to be the one to check it out, or expect him and Celeste to keep you themselves.”

It hurts to know that they were aware I was outside alone for multiple days, scared and cold. I’m about to tell them, but Benjamin smiles a slight smile. “Your mate is near. It may be best if you meet him outside to calm him. I’ll be right here if you need me.”

I smile at him. He’s not wrong. The feeling in my chest makes sense now. Maybe it’s not so much my own feelings about being left, but Seth’s raging emotions that I feel. I can feel it growing stronger, so I stand and make my way outside, putting my jacket and hat on, closing the door behind me and sitting on the steps to the small, dilapidated cabin. Finally, I can smell him and I can’t help the tears that are forming in my eyes. I’ve received so much information today, and some of it really hurt. I know Seth is going to be furious with me as soon as he gets here, but maybe he will take it easy on me.

I look up to see two rogue wolves leading Altair, a bag in his mouth, running up from the path we took. He stops, drops the bag and shifts into his human form.

“What the hell, Molly?! How could you leave like that?!” he yells, stalking up to me from the dark. I look up at him, tears falling from my eyes, and his anger washes away. “Hey, are you alright?”

I shake my head slowly at him “I don’t know.”

“Are you hurt?” he asks, kneeling down in front of me and cupping my face with his hand.

“No.” I whisper to him and can see him visibly relax. “It’s just been a lot of information. A lot.”

Seth nods in understanding and leans to k**s me gently. “It’s alright, Molly. You can tell me everything when you’re ready.” and I nod to him.

Seth stands up and walks back to the bag he had dropped, reaching inside and pulling out his clothes.

“You brought clothes?” I say with a slight giggle.

Seth just scowls at me slightly, pulling on a pair of dark jeans. “You told Rob you were going to meet your biological parents. I didn’t want to meet them without pants.” he tells me as that’s the most obvious explanation.

He he pulls on a black shirt, buttoning it and walks back over, sitting next to me this time and wrapping an arm around me. “Whenever you’re ready, Love. I’m right here.”

“The witch you met…” I start to say but pause.

“Yeah…” Seth says in an attempt to encourage me.

“She’s my mother.” I whisper, still trying to process all the information I’d received today, and struggling where to even begin telling him.

Seth doesn’t say a word. Honestly, what even is there to say to that. He just scoops me up into his arms and places me in his lap. I cry into his chest, all the confusion I’ve had my whole life now makes sense, but it brought new emotions and confusions. I tell him everything they’ve told me tonight, all of it. I don’t hide anything, this is my mate, he deserves to know, too.

Seth listens intently at everything I’m telling him, taking it all in. “Your dad told me about the prophecy a few days ago. We didn’t want to tell you in case we were wrong.” He looks so stressed and upset.

“Are you alright, Seth?” I ask him.

He just looks off into the distance. “Molly, my dad killed your brothers. If he had known about you he would have killed you, too.” he tells me, pulling me tight to him and kissing my temple. “And for what? To keep our family in power?”

“I don’t think he would hurt me now, though.” I tell him, and it’s the truth. I’m no threat to his throne- it’s going to my mate.

“I need to think some more on this before we go back to your pack.” he says to me, “I don’t want to take any chances. Not with your life.”

We sit there a few moments longer, content to just be in each others arms. Seth is gently rubbing his hand up and down my arm for comfort and I rest my head on his shoulder.

“Do you think we ever would have met if they hadn’t sent me to the Lunar Falls pack?” I ask him.

Seth shakes his head. “Absolutely not. Dad never allowed me to go near the rogues. The only reason I did this time is because you’re hurt.”

“I’m sorry I left the cave and came. I knew you would be mad, but I just had to.” I say, slightly ashamed of running off.

“You really scared me, Love.” Seth says, placing his arms firmly around me. “It makes sense you’d leave though, finding out you were with your mother. It’s hard to be mad, now.”

“Good. And Albert is OK?” I ask him, still worried about him.

“Yes, he’s fine.” Seth tells me with a nod. “Your dad and brother decided to lock him into a cell to be safe since there were so many questions left unanswered, but he’s fine.”

“He doesn’t know anything, truly.” I tell him, not happy that he’s been locked in a cell, but at least they didn’t hurt him. “His parents were part of the pack I was born into. When Albert mentioned me, they would get the information to Lily and Benjamin but Albert had no clue about it. I doubt he even knows he wasn’t born at Lunar Falls.”

Seth’s eyes glass over for a moment before he looks at me with a worried look on his face. “I let Rob know, they’re going to release him immediately.”

“What has you worried?” I ask, placing my hand gently on his cheek.

Seth just takes a deep breath, his jaw flexing in frustration, “Your parents are headed to us.”
