The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles) -
Chapter 674
Suzy drew in a deep breath as she ended her conversation with her parents before picking up her phone and dialing Jane's number. "Jane, what on earth is going on? Who released the news?"
"It's definitely not me," Jane said as she frowned. "There's no way I would put out news like this, but I don't know who did this either. No one at Royal Star is letting a peep out, either. You've got to understand that Charles, our big boss, is embroiled in the scandal this time. If he wants to get to the bottom of this, we'll have to suffer the consequences as well."
Jane was not vexed because of Winter, but rather at the fact she would get dragged into the mess as well. "Oh, that's right. Who do you think did this?"
"Why would you think that I know anything when you have no idea yourself, Jane?" Suzy hung up the phone and bit her lip, running through the facts before dialing Ronald's number.
Ronald was currently scrolling through and reading the headlines the various news outlets had crafted. His feed was filled with pictures of Charles and Winter, paired with captions that left room for one's imagination and easily led readers down a path of mistruth. Ronald could not help but marvel at how Mr. Charles was willing to go to all ends just for the sake of his wife, even to the point of getting himself involved. Charles was willing to sacrifice his sex appeal to deal with these women.
His phone, which he had left on the table, rang. Upon glancing at it and seeing that the incoming call was from Suzy, Ronald waited briefly before answering the call. Soon, he heard Suzy's voice coming from the other end of the line. "Mr. Wells, have you seen today's news yet?"
Ronald raised an eyebrow. Sure enough, Suzy was calling because of the news. He nodded and said, "Yes, I just saw it. What on earth is going on? Why was Mr. Hoffman's picture placed alongside Winter Shaw's picture like that? And that angle... It's obvious even at first glance that someone deliberately did this!"
Ronald sounded extremely angry. Suzy pondered inwardly, 'Did Ronald really not know about this? So, this was not their doing either?'
However, who in Brookville would dare go against Charles and flagrantly publish his picture? Did they have a death wish?
"I'll be honest with you, Mr. Wells. I'm calling today to ask you your thoughts on this. Winter called me earlier this morning, and it sounded like she was terrified."
"Terrified. Weren't you guys the ones
who did this? Ronald said coldly. "You've got guts. How dare you pul such a trick against Mr. Hoffman? Aren't you scared that you'll anger 't him, and that he'll make sure you don't get to watch the sunrise the next day?"
Suzy's face paled slightly upon hearing that because she knew Charles was more than capable of doing that. Hence, she hurriedly said, "Mr. Well I'm willing to say on the record that we did not do this. Besides, Winter would not be so foolish when she's already married. It would do her more harm than good to have her name associated with Mr. Charles in a hyped-up manner like this!"
"What you said makes plenty of sense. However, given current circumstances, having this go viral does not benefit Mr. Charles in the slightest but it will increase Miss Shaw's exposure and visibility. Moreover, when you said she's married, what if she has no feelings toward Xavier Harris and was
thinking of using this as an excuse to get divorced? It's not impossible!"
"But, Mr. Wells... I heard from Winter that she had no idea of this happening. It's definitely someone else who's behind this."
"Oh? In that case, who do you think it could be, Ms. Atherton?"
