Chapter 59
The director looked at the medical report in his hand, pushed up his reading glasses, and continued. "It's just that the earliest we can schedule the final surgery is six months from now. This will give Ms. Blackwood more time to heal. Matthew's usually stern face finally showed a rare hint of relief. "So, will she be able to work and enjoy herself like everyone else?" He would do everything in his power to fulfill Elizabeth's wishes.
According to the current examination results, she should be able to, the director replied, not daring to guarantee as there are no certainties in medicine. He then shifted his tone and added, "However, I recommend Ms. Blackwood undergo a comprehensive check-up every month to monitor any potential changes in her condition."
"Okay," Matthew responded calmly, stood up, and walked out of the director's office. Soon after, Elizabeth, nervously rubbing her hands, approached him. "How did it go, Matt?"
"You can start working at the Blackwood Group," he said succinctly while affectionately ruffling her hair. Her eyes sparkled with joy at his words, and she exclaimed, "I knew it!"
Elizabeth then linked her arm with Matthew's and asked coyly. "So, what position are you going to arrange for me, Matt?" He smiled gently, Just go and report in. I will make sure everything goes well" Little did he know she had other plans. At noon, with the sun beating down, Eliot directed the movers to place Mia's unwanted leather chair in front of Ethan's villa, saying, "Take it slow, guys. Don't damage the furniture."
She stood with her arms crossed, her short hair blowing in the wind. Her tall figure drew many admiring glances. Her face was adorned with exquisite makeup, and her smart suit made her look both elegant and commanding. Even in low- heeled shoes, she exuded an undeniable air of authority.
Mia raised an eyebrow and walked up to ring the doorbell Yet, there was no response. Inside the grand villa, however, was a different scene altogether.
As Ethan listened to the noise outside, he frowned deeply. He had spent the entire night worrying, planning to stay holed up in the villa and avoid Mia at the Eldoria Group. But he hadn't expected that she would come knocking on his door. He knew very well that she wouldn't come for no reason. She was there to throw her weight around
Just as he was frowning and anxiously trying to think of a solution, his phone on the desk suddenly rang, its shrill tone piercing the silence. He jumped in fright. "Damn it! Who's calling now?" he grumbled as he picked up the phone. When he saw that the caller was Eliot, he thought irritably, 'It has to be Mia who made him call
Ethan calmed his nerves and answered the call.
Shortly after, a lively voice slowly came through, grating on his ears. "Ethan, are you home? I came to see you."
He then thought, "Would she really be so kind to visit me? She's obviously here to confront me. But if I don't answer the door, it will make me look even more suspicious. I might as well face her head-on. With that thought in mind, he awkwardly spoke up. "Yes, I'm here!" Mia asked in confusion, "Then why didn't you answer when I rang the doorbell?"
"Sorry, Mia. I didn't know you were at my door. Ethan quickly thought on his feet and came up with a lie. "The servant was cooking just now, and I was taking a nap, so I didn't hear the doorbell. I'll come open the door for you right away." It wasn't long before the iron gate slowly opened. Mia's lips curled into a mysterious smile, and she waved at Eliot. He then gently instructed. "Sir, could you please bring the items in?"
Ethan was startled by the scene before him and wondered what they were up to. He decided to ask, "What's this, Mia?" Mia stepped forward, raised an eyebrow, and replied, "Oh, I noticed how much you liked the executive chair in my office, so I had it delivered." At that, his gaze darkened, unable to read her intentions.
He responded, "Oh, you're too kind. The sun is scorching right now. Come inside and sit. Mia, however, remained
