The Daemon’s Eyes
CHAPTER 22

*********

Hamilton (Sabrina's Father) P.O.V

I sluggishly made my way through the front door. Mentally hectic didn't even begin to explain how today was!

I mean.... They said it was 'bring your kid to work' day, but I didn't expect everyone to actually bring one or two of their children!

Couldn't even do any bit of work with everyone talking about their families and all the various stuff they seem to do for fun..... I mean, a man couldn't feel comfortable in his personal office with different people barging in and out! I felt myself growl.

A bunch of them asked me why I didn't bring my daughter, of course I told them I'd grounded her. Didn't want to mention her shameful suspension.... The stairs seemed to be endless as I made my way up, my room was directly opposite Sabrina's.

Winry...

Her name always went through my mind when I looked towards Sabrina's door. It always filled my heart with rage, I gave up everything to marry her. My parents didn't like the idea of their first son marrying an average citizen, not only that... everyone who grew up with her said she was possessed! But her eyes....

She always hated the fact that they were a strange scarlet colour, but that was one of the things I loved so much about her!

My left hand slowly dug into my pocket to find the key to my door.

She told me she didn't want to have a kid for a year or two, but I kept insisting on having one. And due to my selfish decision, Winry passed away.

It was almost like she knew she would, her last few months of pregnancy.... She made a list of places she wanted to go to. I didn't want her moving around much but ended up taking her to most of the places.

There was one I couldn't take her to. The last place she wanted to go to.....

I paused my thoughts to unlock the door while using my shoulder to push it open.

I remember how frustrated I was, my anger couldn't be curbed when the doctors rushed out to tell me Winry had passed away but the baby had survived. I wanted to go back in time I stop her from ever getting pregnant! Even if we had to adopt a baby.

In some sense, it's like she always knew, I mean.... I always felt I didn't fully know her. She was quiet most of the time, but her eyes were always searching and I'd heard her talking to herself attimes.

My family didn't send their condolences. Instead, they laughed and laughed. I despise them.

Gradually taking off my suit, this was the same thoughts I had every single day.

I'd hired a nanny to take care of Sabrina till she was around four.

I didn't feel I was being to hard on her... or was I?

I shook my head in attempt not to think too much.

After a few minutes, I went downstairs to make dinner. I'd closed about two hours early because there was no work for me to do. I was an architect and the company I worked for was quite renowned. Sabrina was probably up in her room now. I wasn't the best cook but we had some left over spaghetti from yesterday. "Ahhn, this will do". I decided to sober up by turning the TV on.

It was the series 'Crime files'. They usually tell a story of some mysteries that were solved and the detective explains the whole story.

Won't deny liking this show, but I usually missed it. I once bought the DVD though.

"And you say the nine year old killed his whole family? All by himself?", someone like a reported asked the detective.

"Yessir", the man I recognize as Kendrick Matthias. He was a renowned detective that got hired by the police and individuals all over the world! They say his hunches are always right. "It was just a hunch at first, I mean... why would a killer break into a home and kill everyone apart from the kid?"

"If it was an average killer, they'd wipe all traces of evidence and by evidence- I mean the people", he paused to catch his breathe. "If they wanted money, they could have taken it and still killed everyone. But nothing was stolen" "The boy said he hid, but there were bite marks and scratches on his body, meaning there was a struggle. But he denied fighting with anyone and said it happened as he was trying to hide".

"We did a survey of the house and the place he claimed to hide was tiled and as smooth as a baby's butt. It didn't explain the scratches. And, the gun was left. No killer would discard his gun at a crime scene when we could simply do a finger print test!"

He crossed his leg in his seat, "well, I'm being too hard on him. It's not like I expect a kid to commit a perfect crime"

The reporter laughed, "What happed to the gun? Was a finger print test carried out on it?"

He waved a hand in the air, "It was covered with blood, we really couldn't get much out of it. And it had two bullets left. The mother was shot once in the heart, and the father was shot in two places". "Pretty good sim for a kid"

Before I knew it, a commercial started. I sighed just realizing I was already done eating!

"Sabrina!", I'd forgotten to call her down before.

Soon the commercial was over. I watched the show to the end and they did show some pictures of the crime scene. "I just think parents should treat their kids right. They didn't force you to bring them into this world! It's the least you can do" "You're right on that Mr Kendrickson".

"His parents were constantly beating him and blaming him for their mistakes, the kid didn't have much patience. I mean.... Those are the types that grow up to be rotten eggs in the society!"

"I couldn't say it better myself". The reporter smiled. "Well, thanks for tuning into the show today everyone! Catch us again next week, same time, same detective"

I grabbed the remote and turned off the TV. Since I was back early today, I wanted to get some extra sleep than I normally had.

Detective Kendrick's last words had me thinking though. I know most bad people in society turn out that way because of the homes and environments they were raised in. He also said it wasn't their fault they were born, he was right about that.

But....

I sighed, "Sabrina! It's dinner time!". If she didn't want to eat now, she should at least give a reply!

"I'm coming up!", she still didn't rely so I assumed she was probably asleep. I knocked twice and there was no reply from inside. "I'm coming in". I slowly opened the door.

The room was empty, could she have gone somewhere? I mean, I returned earlier than I usually did.

"Sabrina!", I frowned.

The only other room here was her bathroom, I knocked but there was no answer. When I tried to open the door, I discovered it had been locked.

So she was in there. "Why didn't you answer me?". I pounded the door like twice.

There was still no reply. It wasn't like her and I found myself panic a bit.

Could she have hit her head or something?

I gathered all my strength and kicked the door in, luckily it was wooden. The door frame shifted as the door dislocated.

I was a bit taken aback when she didn't even move. She just looked like she was meditating or something. "Sabrina?"

She didn't say a word as my frown deepened. Her eyes were also closed. "Say something child!"

When she didn't speak for some seconds, I moved to shake her a bit. But once my hand landed on her shoulder, her body landed on the ground with a huge thud.
