The Daemon’s Eyes
CHAPTER 37

9th April, 2027.

Durindo,

"Jack!", Rachel frowns. "You're getting quite friendly with that human..."

He shrugs a bit. "I can't help getting amused by his mischiefs"

She was rearranging some clothes in her outrageously huge drawer. "And the girl?"

"Hmmph... She seems to have lost her memories till a certain age", he smiles a bit. "What about Logan?"

"What about him?", She archs a brow unconsciously.

He rolls his eyes behind her.

She continues. "As you well know, he's the only one who can possess her due to compatibility. Just how your wrath matches with the temperamental problems dear Richard has..."

He sighs. "You know that's not what I was asking, pride"

"Oooh", a mischievous smile forms at her lips as she turns to face him. "It's been ages since you called me that...."

"Ages?", He frowns.

"A decade is quite a while when you're in a human's body you know", she winks at him. "I mean.... this body is thirty five now, although I look twenty-five or so..."

He grumbles aloud. "Stop changing the subject!"

"Hmmm", her eyes narrow. "You've already made contact with Sabrina. I presume?"

"Yeah... But I didn't tell her anything...."

"I hope so Jack... I really do...", she turned back to her wardrobe, "So... Can you do it?"

"It'll be a bit difficult", he cups his chin. "I mean... Changing her basic character from lust to envy. Plus, now that she's lost her memories, I can see Logan really affected her when she was younger..", she folds his arms. "She's like a little perv!" "Then I'll send envy..."

His eyes widen. "Not her!... I can't stand her rants!", His voice was thicker now.

Rachel giggles. "She's typically just a kid, so that's expected. And she won't arrive till a few weeks...."

His frown deepens as he turns to leave. "She'd better not make Sabrina tell Richard what I really am...!", He grumbles. "Triggering her memories would be bad for all of us..."

He leaves through the way he came....

Rachel frowns a bit to herself. On a normal situation, she would never have sent envy...

Sabrina lay in deep sleep when her window suddenly flew open.

Startling her a bit, she jumps out of bed.

"Ughh...", She moans with sleepy eyes. "I'd have sworn I locked that...". She gets up from her bed slowly. She was well aware the AC was going to be a waste with the window open like that. Cleaning her eyes beside the window, she frowns a bit.

The lock was somehow broken....

"Mhhhhm...", She stretches out after closing it once.

Turning to leave, it flies open again. "Ughh!", She heads towards her door. she was going to get something to fix it downstairs.

Deciding not to turn on the corridor lights and cause a fuss over such a minor thing, she picks up a torch left beside her door. Her room was at the East side of the house... But she'd always wondered what was on the west... Flashing her torch towards there for a second..

"Hhhh!", She gasps before flashing it once more. "I'd have sworn I saw a lady".

Deciding to check it out....

The west side seemed no difference from the East. But.... There was a room at the far end painted green which stood out from the rest painted white.... Knocking a bit, but without a reply... Sabrina decided to go in.

The room had a strange smell... Like something rotten, although it was faint. The room was quite cold!

But gladly, the light switch was beside the door.

Her eyes widen a bit. "This..... This room...". It was so beautiful she wasn't sure how to react....

Marble walls, tiles which reflected like glass... Even the bed frame looked like it could pay her rent for years!

It was delicately carved and had a half transparent net about it. It was like... A resting place...

She smiled to herself before strolling around the room which seemed to go on forever. It was like a few other rooms were connected to it... But this smell....

Sabrina turned to stare at the bed once more. Walking slowly towards it, she noticed someone... Was lying inside.

"Ahhh!!!", She screamed quickly covering her mouth with both hands. Tears unconsciously rolled down her face...

This woman... Was so beautiful....

But from the smell, she was dead....

Sabrina quickly turned to leave. On reaching the door, she was face front with Richard... Who couldn't hide the displeasure from his face... "She's... She's...!"

"I know". He pushed pass her. Slowly walk to sit on a stool beside the woman.

Sabrina slowly walks to his side.

"This is my mother. Marinette...". The words sounded forced.

Sabrina's eyes widen. "Your... Mother?"

He nods once. "You met her ghost once, before you lost your memories". Stretching both hands out above Marinette. He starts healing her... "But.. but... She's already..", she trails off. "I'm sorry for barging in here without permission....", She lowers her head.

He doesn't reply for a while till he drops his hands. He looked a bit exhausted...

"She's been wavering between death and life for a decade now...", He looks down at his loved mother who seemed to be breathing faintly.

Sabrina's eyes widen.

"If I keep hearing her every three days, I can keep her alive". He was trying hard to keep a straight face.... Since he hardly ever talked about his mother. "But she doesn't open her eyes or speak... She hardly even breathes....". He turns to face her. He'd just told her the seventh commandment..

Even Sabrina could tell this guy woman would have wanted to Rest In Peace. "I never kne-"

"It's fine. Only the residents of this house are aware..". Getting up. "The day you saw her in the gardens, I was so overwhelmed with mixed thoughts... I was quite rough with you....". Placing both hands on her shoulders. "I'm sorry..." "No...", She couldn't hold back some of her tears. "Don't apologise, I probably already forgave you..."

He hugs her.

Her eyes widen a bit. Her head was barely at his shoulder, but it was so comforting... Like she was the one mourning....

He stutters a bit.

"What's wrong..!?", She barely managed to support him.

"Nothing... I just need some rest. Doing this takes quite a lot of energy..."

"Here..", she puts his hand around her shoulder from beside. "I'll help you.."

He tries to protest a bit, but her determined gaze made him rethink.

He'd never wanted her to discover his mother... Incase she turned against him one day. "Do you know why I willingly agreed to help you Sabrina?"

She looks to him.

"Because the same man who killed your father.... Did this to my mother...". The look on his face was dead serious.

He'd decided to tell her now in order to avoid questions about his mother's state in the future...

Her eyes widen a bit. But it all made sense....

To Sabrina, she wasn't sure about the idea of keeping Marinette barely breathing for years..... The woman was probably suffering although she couldn't speak..... But did she have any right to interfere?
