The Defiant Luna -
Chapter 58
Nathan POV
It had been a long morning with many discussions about the secuity of the pack, the border patrols, and he also wanted a roaming patrol inside the pack now, at least a full 2 kilometres from the border itself, nothing could get through, they not only needed to protect Jay-la. They needed to make her feel safe and secure, not fear anything for her affliction to start to resolve itself.
Franklin had been doing research and, other than her exercising and burning that adrenaline out of her system, not something she could do currently being pregnant. The only other option was surgical, to remove her adrenal glands. That was not an option. So, the long way it was to try and resolve her affliction.
It was currently under control and only kicked in when she was under direct duress, so that was good. With her now being here inside the pack fulltime, happy and knowing that he loved her, should help with that. Now all they had to do was keep all threats at bay to help get that affliction under control.
Franklin was gging to be testing her b***d like clock work every month, to compare them against each other, to watch the levels and look for the first signs of it dropping. This would be reported to him, to Jay-la herself. She was willing to be monitored, she had now sat down and talked with Franklin herself. The children had all given b***d as she wanted them too, they were all good, no signs of affliction for them.
They’d had an ultrasound on their pup and it was well situatedand its heartbeat was good and strong, there was just one in there, no surprises this time. He was certain it was going to be a boy due to his father’s thoughts about his son playing with her son. Not that he’d told her that, she was happy not knowing it seemed.
He walked out of the war room. His entire unit were with him and saw Ethan check his watch and state “I’ve got to go chat with mum, ‘ll catch up later.” And headed off, he thought he was fooling everyone. The man was not. Hed been different since Maya had arrived, not really taken much interest in the girl, was mostly being attentive to her, due to the way she looked at Stephen.
He’d volunteered to distract the girl, who had wandering eyes, for her sisters Mate, not that she knew who he was at all. But everyone had seen the way Suzy had reacted to it.
His Delta had frowned about it, had lost his Mate years ago and was not interested in anyone at this point. But, had stated he did not want anything to screw up Stephen and Suzy’s bond, and being the only one of them not attached, had volunteered to hang out with the girl.
They were all certain he was sleeping with Maya, but that was his business. No one was particularly bothered by it, Ethan was a good man, wouldn’t hurt the girl, and if she headed off out of the pack to live in Rochester as was expected it would likely just end there. But they had all noted Ethan did seem more relaxed nowadays.
He wasn’t so obsessed with keeping his nose in books and research, though each afternoon the four of them sat down for a few hours and worked on that new app for tracking Jay-la, when her affliction was set off. She had actually agreed to let him do it and wear her phone at all times once the app,was up and running. Would have to have it strapped to her with a stretchable band, for if she shifted, so it would stay on her or Kora at all times.
Jay-la actually thought it was a good idea. She’d not liked being lost out there in the mountains at all, not knowing how far she had gotten or which direction she had fled, didn’t really like not recalling anything about it. She har told him herself lo-jacking her was probably a good idea.
But even that was an issue.
Franklin had thought about it. A microchip implant that would track her in real time, could be a good idea, büt he was concerned that if she shifted it would dislodge and be ejected from the body at some point. They had tested that theory, and Franklin had not been wrong. It was not a full guarantee that it would stay put.
He’d volunteered himself, as had several border patrollers and warriors; Franklin wanted it to run for over a week with many wolf shiftings to occur. Nathan’s had lasted all of one shift, his first shift into Havoc had seen it lying on the ground afterwards. Though Havoc had been focused on it and trying to remove it at will, it seemed he could. Which meant so could Kora if she didn’t want it in her.
They were now waiting for the other results, though just this morning hed found out that one of his warriors, after wolfen training, had lost his. Franklin was keeping track of all of them. He had seen that it was stationary for more than an hour and gone off to find out what had happened.
The chip had been on the ground.
They were still keeping the program going but, it was likely going to be a bust. So, the real time app hed thought about was being seriously worked on, by all of them here in the afternogs they had allocated 3 hours of each day towards it. They had a lot of other pack business to attend to as well.
Though this was what he did, and he was thoroughly enjoying actually being able to work on the riew program, he was a busy man. Running a pack was not an easy feat and his pack had many businesses out in the human world. All that he had to manage himself as well. Was going to have to go up to Rochester himself tomorrow for business meetings in the human world. It was just the standard, would normally spend 3 days a week out in the human world and four days here inside the pack. Though he varied that every week so no one could pin point when he was out of the pack regularly.
Walked down the hall to find both Jay-la’s guard detail sitting about in the foyer, looked at them and they both looked at her closed office door. He nodded as he stepped into his office. But then he frowned as he tried to pull on that tether to her and she was not actually in her office.
Was off elsewlere in the pack-house.
Walked over and pushed the adjoining door open to her office and looked in there. There was no one in there.
Frowned as he turned and walked back into his office, he saw Jackson and Stephen look right at him, they had all likely seen her guards nod to her office as though she was in there.
“not in there.” He muttered and saw both his Beta and Gamma chuckle, as he walked to his office door and called the guards over. “She is not in her office.” He rapped out at them both.
Saw their shocked expressions,
, “Boss, she went in there
like two goirs ago with Suzy and has yet to come out.”
Heard both Jackson and Stephen burst out laughing now, Detail busted.” Jackson laughed
“Go.” He told the guards “What good are you if you can’t keep track of her?”
He closed his office door and looked at both his men. They were fully amused now. She was still in the pack-house that much he knew, that tether to her told him as much, just likely decided to give his guard detail the slip. He’d not told her he’d put one on her and told them to keep out of sight to not arouse her suspicion. Obviously, shed seen them and decided to give them the slip.
Two hours they’d not seen her for, goddess only knew how long she’d not actually been in her office, and with him nor Havoc tracking her he’d not known either. Mind-linked right to her ‘Sweetheart where are you?’
‘Hmm, someplace dark but fun.’ Shed returned instantly.
He could hear the clear amusement in her voice ‘Did your men lose me?’
‘It does appear so.’ He acknowledged ‘How long have you not been in your office?’
‘Hours.’ She laughed softly ‘gotta do better than that, they were not very discrete. Perhaps you should have Stephen pick the men for the mission of secretly following your Luna!
He sighed “We’ll discuss it later.’
‘If you can find me. She chuckled and then was just gone from hir
Havoc chückled himself, as she disconnected herself from them. She thought it was fun to do so. Havoc clearly didn’t mind it, when before he was annoyed and angry about it, he now liked it. Though that was because she was fully amused and happy, playing with him, not annoyed with him.
Looked at Jackson and Stephen and shook his head, “The Luna thinks she can hide from me.” He smiled.
They were both laughing themselves now. “Boy’s let’s go on a hunt shall we,” He chuckled to himself. There was no way she could actually hide from him. He knew what she smelled like. Could feel that tether to her good and strong.
Never in this pack could she ever hide from him anymore.
But it was a really good feeling to know that she wanted to play with him like this, like they had used to play together.
She was returning to the old Jay-la, it seemed. Both he and Havoc liked it, would be even more fun when she could shift and Kora would be able to take over and blend into the snow. Hide herself even more.
Heard Havoc snort amusingly “I always know where my Mate is.”
That was true he’d always been able to hunt her. There would be no hiding now, though the fact that she wanted to and was trying to, playing with them, appeared to be actively taunting him into hunting her, made him smile.
It didn’t take long to find her, she didn’t even try to run away, she was in the theatre with her group of girls, watching some chick flick when he, Jackson and Stephen all snuck in there and tried to sneak up on them, no such luck in confined spaces they could smell them a mile away.
It didn’t stop any of them from sitting down and hanging out to the end of the movie. She just smiled up at him as he reached over from the back of her chair to pick her up and pull her into his lap on the seat behind her. She laughed the whole time.
“You’d better find better guards.” She chuckled up at, him.
“I had.” He smiled right back at her.
“I thought you were in meetings all afternoon?”
“Hm, I’m supposed to be, putting them off now to spend time with you.” he slid a hand up her leg slowly and it got swatted away, he just smiled and murmured “‘ll have to punish you at some point for sneaking away from your guards.”
“Or maybe I should punish you for putting them on me in the first place and not telling me.”
“Hmm, I guess you could.” He hugged her.
Left her with the girls when the movie was over to hang out and headed back to the office to get some work on that app of his. Would much rather spend time with her, but the app was important for her safety, and even when it was done it had to be Beta tested to make sure it worked Though he was not going to do what they did with Madeline and set off her affliction.
No, he is just going to install it in two or three pack members phones and let them leave the pack, and then track them with it. They would get a few hours’ head start and be allowed to roam in the woods or go to the city and stroll around. See if they could track exactly where they were at all times and pick them up.
Thât was going to be the best way to test it. Once it worked would be looking for any glitches and fixing them but other than that, if it worked real time he would be happy with that. Install it on Jay-la’s phone and then everything would be good.
