Chapter 2403

"Ralph, spill it!" Bella shot up from her chair, her emotions on edge.

"Well, Dr. Wagner has much of a dark background and his income is not exactly normal,* Ralph replied.

Bella raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"I looked into Dr. Wagner's assets and income sources. While he earns a high salary, his finances are a mess. His son's gambling addiction and his wife's serious illness have drained most of the family's wealth. Other than a house and a car, their assets have been nearly wiped out by his son."

He continued, "But two days ago, he scheduled a bone marrow transplant for his wife and paid off her hospitalization fees, all at once, totaling over $500,000. On top of that, his son owed over $3,000,000 in high- interest loans, and Dr. Wagner managed to pay that off too."

Bella had her phone on speaker. Steven, listening nearby, shook his head in frustration and exclaimed, "That son of his is such a disgrace! He's beyond saving. Let's just hope karma gets him in his next life!"

Ralph continued, "Given Dr. Wagner's current financial situation, there's no way he could afford all that on his own. It raises a huge question mark."

Bella's bright eyes glinted coldly. "There's no question about it. Grant must have stepped in and offered Dr. Wagner a financial lifeline in exchange for a testament against Justin."

Bella added, her voice icy. "He's been given so much money. Of course, he'd do whatever is asked of him." Steven frowned, a hint of unease creeping into his voice. "Ms. Bella, if we try to go through the legal way, it'll be hard to pin Dr. Wagner down. Even though he took Grant's dirty money, it could technically be classified as a gift, not a bribe. Without direct evidence of a mutual benefit, it's not illegal.*

Ralph agreed. "That's right, Bella. His income may be suspicious, but he hasn't abused his position. Legally, there's nothing we can do."

"That's true." Bella nodded slightly, narrowing her eyes. "But who said I'm going to deal with him legally? He's a villain, so why should I play fair? That would make me a fool."

She smirked. "Besides, I never claimed to be a noble knight. I'm just a little lady, and I'll fight fire with fire."

Steven gasped in surprise and gave the young lady an approving thumbs-up.

Ralph coughed awkwardly. "Uh, what did you just say? The signal isn't good here."

"Thanks, Ralph. The information you've found is already more than enough," Bella replied sweetly, then asked, "By the way, is Dr. Wagner's son still in Savrow?"

"Wait, Bella, are you planning to look for Dr. Wagner and his son?" Ralph sounded worried. "Don't go there alone; it's too dangerous! His son is a scumbag with a terrible reputation. If you go, he might turn violent and hurt you. Let me go with you!"

"No," Bella interrupted confidently. "You're a police officer, so it's not ideal for you to get involved right now. Don't worry. Even if the two of them team up, they're no match for me."

Bella tilted her delicate chin confidently and let out a cold laugh. "Since his son is a gambler stuck in a bottomless pit, there's no way he only owes $3 million. His son is Dr. Wagner's weak spot. We'll start with him and take both of them down."

"Grant thinks he can play scare tactics and manipulation? Well, two can play that game."

The next day.

After careful preparation, Bella and Steven drove to Dr. Wagner's house late at night.

Dr. Wagner's family lived in a middle-class villa in Savrow. It was a standalone house with its own yard, but the overgrown weeds and neglected appearance made it clear no one cared for the place anymore.

"If his wife were healthy and his son decent, Dr. Wagner could've lived a pretty good life," Bella remarked, her voice tinged with sarcasm. "Too bad he spoiled a rotten son and got nothing but trouble in return. This house doesn't even feel like a home anymore"

"Ms. Bella, this is the place," Steven said, glancing at the dimly lit villa with uncertainty. "But... Is anyone even living here?"

"With a debt-ridden son in the mix, he's probably trying to save on electricity to pay it off," Bella answered.

Just then, Bella spotted Dr. Wagner carrying a briefcase and hurrying toward the gate, his face shadowed by an air of gloom.

"Dr. Wagner, please wait for a moment!"

Bella and Steven quickly stepped out of the car and approached Dr. Wagner

"Are you... Ms. Thompson?" Dr. Wagner stammered, his expression stiff with unease.
