Chapter 50 - The Undead Lord Garbg

* The Castle at Drakor; The Capital of the Chromos * Midwife POV

I'm led inside the castle to a throne room. Two large chairs sit in the middle of the room. The chairs were large wooden with intricate designs of dragons carved into them. There is seating on either side but today only a few chairs are occupied. Those people must be the council and religious leaders. On the floor was a large red carpet trimmed in gold leading from the doorway up to the chairs.

"Thank you for seeing me, your highness. This baby was Royse of the Xsar Empire. She had a love affair with your brother Ambrose. He had her stowed away in a cabin near the eastern border and army camp near the Matlock Village. After a difficult pregnancy Royse died giving birth to the child. The child's name is Eve. I have traveled all of the way here to give you the child." I was shaking the entire time I was talking.

"How do we know you're telling the truth?" The king asked.

"Before Ambrose left he requested that we tattoo an AR on the girl's right upper forearm. He was supposed to come and talk with you about the child and that tattoo would let you know the authenticity of the baby. I only hope Ambrose made it here to talk to you because we never saw him again." I suck in my breath with the last bit of hope I have.

"Ambrose did make it here to inform us but he was killed shortly after. Bring the baby here." Queen Viola requests.

I quickly bring the baby to Queen Viola so she can hold her and inspect the tattoo. "She's a beautiful baby and stays quiet most of the time. I've hardly had a problem with her even though we've been traveling through some rough terrain." "Would you like to stay on as her nanny and caretaker? She already seems so comfortable with you." The queen asks, handing the baby back to me.

"I would love that. It is true that we have bonded over the time we have been traveling." I feel so grateful to the king and queen. This definitely goes beyond my wildest dreams. The queen shows me to Prince Ambrose's old level and tells me how she changed several rooms into rooms for orphans. One room is now occupied by Prince Angelus and Princesses Rohesia and a second room is occupied by their nanny. She shows me to a baby room that Evie can use and she says we can redecorate it for a princess instead of for multiple children and then shows me a room where I can stay. My room is plain but quite lovely. I have a large bed, wardrobe, floor to ceiling cabinet, a bookcase, and a large desk. This is the biggest room I have ever stayed in. In fact this room is the size of my entire house back in Matlock! Then she goes on to tell me that we can redecorate my room as well by painting it, getting rugs, or whatever else I need. I just can't get over their generosity. "Thank you so much! This place is so nice!"

Lucian POV

After the shock of Ambrose's child suddenly showing up out of nowhere Viola and I need to talk about succession to the throne. If we don't have a blood heir the crown would generally go to the next brother and their heir. Ambrose is my next sibling but this baby is a girl. So, can she wear the crown? If not Ambrose then it goes to Cyprian then to Wolf then to Quentin. But I kind of want to give to Angelus. The child is bright and understanding but he would be the first to rule the empire that is not a dragon. I wanted her input before I talked to the council. But before I had a chance to do that, heads of states started to show up for our meeting. The first to show up were King Justus and Queen Gracia of the Werewolves.

"Ah King Justus! Just the man I've been wanting to see!" I've been looking forward to the visit.

"Queen Gracia, should we leave and let the men have their talk? How about some tea in the southern gardens?" Viola stands up and leads Queen Gracia outside the throne room.

Well, King Justus, let's go somewhere more comfortable too. How about the library?" I suggest. Once we get settled I can talk to King Justus about Angelus.

"So, I recently found out that the boy we adopted, Angelus, is a werewolf from the Red Moon Pack. He doesn't remember the alpha's name but his family was banished from the pack because his mother and sister are phoenixes about seven years ago. Isn't that illegal?" I ask to get straight to the point.

"Well, the alpha over Red Moon has been in power for over fifty years and he's still going strong but in answer to your question that is definitely illegal and he can be censured. To do something like that is usually a fine that is then paid to the family. It can be paid to Prince Angelus and Princess Rohesia. What happened to their parents?" I'm glad Angelus and Sia will finally have some justice but it doesn't feel like very much.

"About a year ago their parents were hunted down by a bounty hunter and killed." I'm guessing he was after the mother's feathers and the dad was collateral damage.

"All the wolves from the Red Moon Pack are red wolves. Pure red wolves are rare so the bounty hunter may have been after the father's pelt as well. It's one of the reasons they don't agree with mixing outside of their pack. They want to keep the pack pure." the king explains.

"Sounds a bit incestous to me." I scrunch up my nose.

"Agreed. That's one of the many problems with what they're doing. Since their parents were put in a position where they died and left the children as orphans I can also take away their voting rights at council meetings for a year. But I can't do any physical punishments. Nothing that the law allows." I can tell he was offering me all he could.

"Well, I have one last request then. I don't know much about werewolves other than talking with you. I'm worried about Angelus as he grows up and not having anyone to direct him, someone that he can talk to, or to help him through his first shift. He's nine and soon to be ten and from what I understand his wolf should be appearing soon in his mind then when he's around thirteen he'll have his first shift. Can you send someone here to live here at the castle to help him walk through all of this and through his teen years? I know it's a lot to ask because we're looking at around nine years. But this person would be paid well, have a nice room, have days off, eat with the family, and will be well taken care of." I'm crossing my fingers that he can send someone.

"Yes, I think we can come up with a man for that job. In fact I have someone in mind right now. I'll send a letter and a messenger to him tonight." The king says feeling better after our earlier conversation. *Queen Maeve's Dungeon *

Emily POV

It's so cold in here and this flimsy blanket does nothing to keep out the warmth. I hear footsteps coming down the stairs. It's Lord Garbg the undead Lord Garbg and he's carrying a large golden box.

"Hello Emily, so tonight is the third night for you to accept my dinner invitation or I shall take a different approach which I can guarantee you'll dislike. Which shall it be Option A or Option B?" He smiles a wide grin. "Option A?" My voice is shaky and I hate that I've had to bend to his demands.

"Great. Now get dressed in this." He opens the box and takes out a silver floor length dress with a sweetheart cut in the front and an open back. The dress shimmered as it moved. He definitely had great taste. "Where would you like for me to change?" I asked as I obviously had no privacy here in my cell.

"In your cell. Don't worry I'll be right here to protect you." My mouth fell open when he said that. So I turn and face the wall at the back of the wall.

"You really are a demented fuck." Gabe said out of the blue.

"Shut up or I'll pluck some of your feathers Angel." The undead Lord Garbg threatened and when he did Angel's wings seemed to flutter.

I turn to face the undead Lord Garbg. "I am ready to go."
