Chapter 1586
[Hey dear, the training was a smashing success!]
Chloe chuckled and responded with a quick text: [You're the best!) Ten seconds later.
[Now, I'm officially prepping to start working on the costumes. Time to show my real skills!].
Chloe: [OK, all set!] After she put down her phone, Chloe leaned back on the couch, her slender fingers were lightly touching her chin and her eyes were sparkling with mischief. Her lips curved into a slight smile.
Damon emerged from the kitchen, catching her expression. His dark eyes reflected a blend of exasperation and affection. What on earth was this woman thinking now? Always full of surprises and ideas.
“What are you thinking about?" He asked.
Chloe lifted her gaze, watching the tall man stride toward her. Her eyes locked onto him. He looked back, completely clueless about what was going on in her mind.
Damon was sure that the look in her eyes meant she was scheming something about him. It wasn't until he sat down next to her that she finally spoke, "My dress last night, it was pretty, wasn't it?"
This random question caught Damon off guard, but he still responded, "You always look great."
She gave up expecting any substantial response from him at this point. "I wonder what Robin would think of it"
She mumbled, her expression conflicted.
Damon furrowed his brows, "What did you say?"
Chloe glanced at him, then suddenly patted Damon's shoulder, “You're in for a treat."
Damon raised an eyebrow; he genuinely had no idea what she was planning now.
"Let's eat!" Chloe said.
Three o'clock in the afternoon, at the Harper's Mansion.
Addie was sitting on the sunlit patio on the first floor, eating an apple while instructing the housemaids to clean.
The maids were silently cleaning every corner of the house. They harbored resentment, but the high salary offered by the Harper family kept them silent.
Marina, the previous housemaid, had been pushed out by Addie some time ago. Now, Addie, the one with the longest tenure, was the one calling the shots.
Presley of the Harper family didn't bother with household affairs, so they had to follow Addie's arrangements.
Any mistake would lead to a scolding and punishment.
If they were scolded by a member of the Harper family, they would accept it as they were from a distinguished family and spoke with grace. Addie had been working for the Harper family for a long time, yet her brash demeanor remained. Her insults were unpleasant to hear.
“Here, under the table leg. Did you clean the gap at this joint? Vanya, come here, clean it!"
Every inch of this house was cleaned daily. For the floor, Addie demanded them to wipe it by kneeling down. If once wasn't enough, they must do it twice. Considering the size of the Harper
mansion, across several floors, it was both time-consuming and laborious.
Vanya, the maid called upon, came to Addie, squatted down and wiped the area under the table leg. When she tried to stand up, her knee hurt and she fell back onto the floor.
"Ah!" The dull thud between her knee and the floor indicated how painful it was.
Vanya groaned in pain, and Addie's cold voice echoed, "Who are you trying to fool? Do you usually squat to clean
the floor?"
Vanya's eyes reddened, "But it's not dirty there.”
Addie questioned, "Can you see clearly without getting closer?" Saying this, she pushed Vanya's head towards the floor. “What about now?" Addie asked.
At this moment, all the maids stopped their work and stared at Addie with discontent. Vanya bit her lip, and her tears started to fall.
“Why are you crying? Do you think the floor is not dirty enough?!" Addie suddenly grabbed Vanya's hair, yanked her up, and dragged her over, "Even this place is dirty. Remember to clean it up for me!"
Vanya, with tears in her eyes, noticed the apple juice on the floor. It was the juice from Addie's apple. After releasing Vanya, Addie turned to the other maids, her gaze growing colder, "What are you looking at?"
The maids were even more furious.
Addie chuckled, tossed the apple core from her hand onto the ground in front of the maids, and slowly walked over. "I know you prefer Marina and have many complaints about me! But don't forget, Marina is gone now. In this house, I'm in charge! You'd better behave and listen, or pack your bags and get out!” Addie threatened.
“Addie, you're crossing the line. Even if Mr. Presley were here, he wouldn't side with you!"
“That's right! No matter what, we have rights too! We accept the consequences if our work is not up to par, but what you're doing is too much! We work for the Harpers, not you! If you spill juice, we'll clean it up, but it doesn't mean you can shove our faces into it! None of the Harpers would treat us this way! Who do you think you are?!"
Addie scoffed, "Who doesn't want to play the good guy? They are all good people, so of course, I have to be the bad quy! Can they watch you work all day like me?"
The maids clenched their lips in anger, unable to refute her words. As each one of them remained silent, Addie tilted her chin up, her gaze icy as she stared at them. She stepped forward, crushing the apple core she’d just tossed onto the ground under her boot. The apple core was smashed to bits, juice splattering on the ground.
Addie lifted her foot, scraping her shoe against the ground next to it, "Everyone wants to play the hero, so I guess that leaves me to play the villain!"
She said this, turning to the maid who had first stepped up to protest, ordering, "You, clean this up! And...” She paused, kicking off her slippers, “They're dirty. Make sure they're cleaned!"
“Why should 1?!" The maid shot back immediately, her voice full of discontent.
