The Enticing CEO’s Chosen Bride -
Chapter 337
Chapter 337
Chloe hesitated, unsure what to say, “I can handle it…”
Damon snorted in fury, rolling off her.
The room light flicked on, and Chloe sat up, turning to look at the man she once thought she knew so well. Damon’s face was a storm of emotions – anger, frustration, and something else she couldn’t quite place.
“You think you can handle this on your own?” he spat out, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “This isn’t just some minor setback, Chloe. This is serious.”
Chloe’s hands trembled as she tried to muster up the courage to speak. “I know it’s serious, Damon. But I need to deal with it in my own way.”
Damon ran a hand through his hair, exasperated. “Your way? And what exactly is your way, Chloe? Running away from your problems? Ignoring them until they blow up in your face?”
Tears welled up in Chloe’s eyes, but she blinked them away. “I’m not running away. I just need time to think. To figure things out.”
Damon shook his head, pacing back and forth. “Time? Time is a luxury we don’t have. The shareholders are getting restless. Keira’s accusations are spreading like wildfire. We need to act now.”
Chloe stood up, her resolve hardening. “And what do you suggest we do, Damon? Publicly humiliate Keira? Engage in a media war? That’s not who I am.”
Damon stopped pacing and looked at her, his eyes softening slightly. “I’m not asking you to become someone you’re not. I’m asking you to be smart about this. To protect what’s ours.”
Chloe’s gaze dropped to the floor. “I know. And I will. But I need to do it my way. Please, trust me.”
Damon let out a heavy sigh, closing the distance between them. He placed his hands on her shoulders, his touch surprisingly gentle. “I do trust you, Chloe. But I also worry about you. I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
Chloe looked up into his eyes, feeling a flicker of hope. “I’ll be careful. I promise.”
Damon nodded, albeit reluctantly. “Alright. But remember, I’m here if you need me.”
Chloe managed a small smile. “Thank you, Damon.”
As he pulled her into an embrace, Chloe allowed herself a moment of vulnerability. She rested her head against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. Despite everything, Damon was still her rock.
But deep down, Chloe knew that the real battle was just beginning. She had to find a way to clear her name and protect the company without compromising her values. And she had to do it quickly, before everything she had worked so hard for crumbled before her eyes.
