The Failed Rejection -
Chapter 8
If things were tense before. The bomb my parents dropped changed everything. My mother was r***d at a night out, and Lili was a result of that night. Penelope didn’t know how to feel but it definitely explained a lot. Just remembering the conversation with my dad before leaving makes Penelope cringe a little.
Flashback begins
Penelope tried leaving the house when my father stopped me.
“Please Penelope I was hoping we could talk.” Penelope gave her father a look of distain,
“I’m sorry father I have nothing to say to you.” Her father growled, and Killian came to her side in an instant. Penelope waved him back, her father looked at her helplessly,
“You know for once I wish people would see if from my side.” Penelope sighed, it was time her father got his talking down like he deserved.
“Dave, Killian is right there are many reasons you are unfit to be a gamma and a father. Let’s talk about a why I have daddy issues. Throughout school I had ceremonies every semester because I made honor roll. How many did you attend?” Her father looked confused,
“Yeah you don’t even remember because you were ‘too busy’ with Olivia.” Penelope used air quotes. “Well needless to say you didn’t attend a single one, you didn’t come to any science fairs, or anything that I had accomplished academically. However, mom and Liliana were always there cheering me on. Do you even know I got into medical school? Hell I got into the top ten schools in the country? Do you know I just got my Bachelors degree from a very prestigious university. No cause you don’t care about that. Do you know who was there at my graduation? Liliana and Callum. They are my family, they have always supported me.”
“Look I’m sorry,” Penelope held up her hand,
“It’s too little too late. Killian was also right about our mates. If you truly loved mom you would have loved Liliana cause she is a part of her. I mean mom was r***d, forced, it’s not like she had an affair. Now Killian is facing the same possibility dad.”
“What do you mean?”
“She’s been taken by her psycho of a father. It’s not like they are having tea and cookies. They are torturing her.”
“You don’t know that, she could have went willing.” Penelope was so incensed that for the first time in her life she hit her father.
“You will never change.”
Flashback ends
Penelope was truly at a lost what to do. She was still watching over the kids. She said kids cause since Nathan came he brought his daughter Jocelyn. Helen, this omega he brought with him offered to watch the kids. While she seemed like a nice lady, Penelope didn’t trust anyone but family with Callum right now. Consider her paranoid but considering it was her birth father that was the one trying to kill Lili and take Callum. Penelope was taking no chances.
It was after lunch when a miracle occurred. She was able to get both kids down for a nap. Penelope finally got a chance to check her email. There was his name, Noah Logan. She completely forgot about him. She quickly tapped on the email.
Penelope,
After about an 18 hour flight. I had 2 layovers. I landed in Haven. From there we were bused with our medical supplies into Corona . I can’t say where for both of our safety. But as a trauma surgeon in a war zone I’m sure you can guess.
I wish I could say I miss you Pen but I’ve barely had time to sleep. My wolf does, he will whine for Koko in the middle of surgery, and then we both miss you. Then a nurse will hand me a clamp and it’s back to work.
I hope your sister is safe and sound.
I love you so much Penelope
Will write when I can.
Penelope felt so much guilt for not even thinking about her mate these last few days. She only had her mind on Lili and Callum. She only checked her email to see if she had any emails from school. Which she did, they had emailed her about her options for dining and letting her know which dormitories have vacancies.
She dreaded staying in the dorms, as a shifter she needed her freedom to shift. Luckily the school only made first year med students stay in the dorms. Some bull about getting used to medical school and the rigors. While Penelope didn’t doubt the rigors of medical school, she did doubt that staying in the schools dorms helped any.
Penelope quickly sent an email and looked through her other emails which were just junk. She deleted most of them and went to take a quick shower. She quickly came out to find Callum up who was chewing on paper.
“No Callum, don’t eat that! Yucky!”
Noah POV
The days were long, but rewarding in the long run. At least that’s what everyone is telling him. The truth is, Noah is having a hard time adjusting to this life. He looks around at all the people in the post-operation ward. Noah sighs heavily as he looks at another chart, well he could be any one of these people.
Noah had been on call for almost twenty hours, he did twenty the day before. The medical team predicted a shift in the bombings so hopefully they would get some peace for a few days.
Noah closed the chart, found the closest open bed and went to sleep. When Noah woke up, he was completely disoriented.
“You slept for about fifteen hours,” a voice told him. Noah looked up to see a nurse looking at him. It was an older nurse with a heavy Ukraine accent. She was a good nurse to have in the operating room.
“Patients?”
“We are doing good, rest. Take a shower, you stink.” They both laughed, Noah had no idea the last time he had taken an actual shower. He had just gotten by with the baby wipes the nurses use on the patients.
Noah disrobed and stepped into the shower. The first feeling of the tepid water and he g*****d in relief. Noah enjoyed his shower, taking care to throughly scrub himself. Noah jumped out of the shower and changed into some fresh scrubs. While he brought his own clothes, he didn’t bother changing into them.
Noah went searching for his phone. It took him awhile to find it. When he did he quickly checked his emails. He skipped over the ones from his parents and brother. He check those later. Then he saw it, one from his beautiful mate.
Noah,
It scary to think of where you are, luckily I have been too distracted lately to give it much thought. Lili is still gone, and worse she is being tortured every day. We really don’t know how often, Killian is masking the pain well. The witches are working around the clock to break whatever barrier is protecting them. The trackers are out 24/7.
I stay with Callum constantly, to busy myself, but I am so scared Noah. What if I never see her again, she means the world to me.
I’m sorry you don’t need this while you are over there dealing with the war, but I have no one else to talk to now that Lili isn’t here.
Stay safe,
Penelope
