The Fall Ball
Chapter 64

(Rose)

“As ready as I will ever be.” I tell Raymond with a small smile.

He nods at me and steps away. I watch him as he takes a running start at the river. I gasp as he jumps over it in one try. He smiles at me once he lands on the other side. “Vampires have some gifts of our own.” He tells me with a wink.

As soon as he lands, I am rushed with thoughts in my head. I know they are not mine.

“What a show off, my wolf form could do that,” I hear Craig say. And I giggle.

“How did I become a babysitter… I am a palace guard.” I hear Alex.

“I am sorry that you feel like a babysitter. Hopefully, soon you can return to your post. If you want, I can talk to Ash and see if we can replace you.” I say to Alex, feeling a little sad.

I see his face turn red with embarrassment. “No, it is fine. I don’t really mind. You were not meant to hear that, I am sorry.” He tells me while looking at the ground.

The two of them continue to have random thoughts, but they seem to be controlling them and focusing on what they are thinking about. I look over at Raymond, who nods at me.

“Okay Rose. So, as you see, as soon as we are away from you, you get rushed with the thoughts of those around you. People can not always control what they are thinking. Your head is supposed to be a safe place for you and your wolf to talk without others knowing what you are saying. So it is an invasion of privacy to be in someone’s head without them knowing.” He tells me.

“So what you need to do is focus. It will take practice, but in time it will become easier. In a book that I have read, someone says you have to build a mental wall within your head.”He says.

Great. Put a wall up in my own head to keep out of others heads. “How the hell do I build a wall in my own head?” I ask Lilly. She is silent for a minute.

“I believe that we can actually do this another way.” She tells me. “And how is that?” I ask her.

“So your mind holds a lot of information that you do not use on a daily basis. You can remember things that you don’t know you remember until you need to know them.” She says. “Okay,” I say to her, still a little confused.

“So your mind holds a lot of information that you do not use on a daily basis. You can remember things that you don’t know you remember until you need to know them.” She says. “Okay,” I say to her, still a little confused.

“Your brain has a web of information, but it holds everything in files. So when you need information, it can easily find what it needs,’ She tells me.

“I am still really confused here.” I say to her. She laughs.

“Think about colors….” She says. Instantly my mind fills with multiple colors and their names. “See that is your color folder, you didn’t even know it was there as your mind does it all for you.” She says.

“Rose, are you okay?” Raymond asks me. I look over at him and nod.

“Yes I am okay, just talking with Lilly. She thinks she has an easier way to do this than building a wall.” I say to him.

“And what is her idea?” He asks me. I look over to see Alex and Craig just watching me.

I take my time and explain her theory of folders in the web of our memories.

“That is just crazy.” I hear Craig, I roll my eyes at him. “Sorry,” he says.

“So if we can have a folder filled away with all of our memories. She thinks that I can file away the gift until I need it.” I say to Raymond.

He takes a minute, I can see that he is thinking about this. “That might just work.” He tells me with a smile.

“So what I want you to do is think about the gift from the goddess. Focus on it.” Lilly tells me. I do as she says.

I close my eyes and focus on the mindreading gift from the goddess. As I focus on it, I focus on putting it into a locked folder that can not be opened without me searching for it. It takes a few tries, but I think I got it.

I open my eyes and look at Craig, “Think something,” I tell him. “I am…” He says with a smile. “Thinking about how crazy you are.” He says. I look at Alex, “I am also thinking about many things at this time that are not very nice.” He says.

I look over at Raymond, “I did it, I filled it away.” I say. He smiles. “Very good, now see if you can pull it forward to use it.” He says.

I close my eyes and focus on my locked folder. I open it and instantly I hear something that makes me open my eyes and look around.

“What a beautiful mate we have. I wonder how she is doing with her training.” I hear Ash speaking to Aspen.

I lock eyes with him, “You think I am beautiful?” I ask him. He nods at me and smiles, walking into the clearing.

“So you haven’t gotten it under control yet?” He asks and I smile at him.

“I have figured out how to lock away the gift and how to pull it back out when I need it.” I say to him. I close my eyes and lock the gift back up.

“Really?” He asks me with shock on his face. I smile and tell him about Lilly and her theory that worked.

“I am so glad you got it figured out. I believe the gift can be beneficial when needed, but I also believe it can be a very dangerous gift to have.” He tells me while kissing my cheek. I blush.

Raymond comes back to our side of the river, “Very good Rose, I think it is now time for me to head back to camp for a little while before the festivities start.” He says, turning to walk away.

Alex and Craig have also taken off. It is just Ash and I now. He smiles at me.

“Would Lilly like to meet Aspen and go on a hunt with us?” He ask me.

Before I can even answer him, Lilly has taken control over my body and caused me to shift.

“I will take that as a yes,” Ash says while petting her head and giving it a k**s.
