Chapter 160

Jade blinked her serpent-like eyes rapidly. "Why aren't you unconscious?"

"The charm doesn't work on me. I have talismans."

As Madison spoke, she flung a talisman toward Jade. But Jade dodged it swiftly, her cold eyes narrowing. Tilting her head slightly, she hissed, "Hmm, not bad. You've got some skills." Beneath her nightgown, there was a violent shudder, and a thick, black serpent tail slithered out, thrashing across the floor. She lashed out at Madison with it, but the tail froze mid-air. "You..." Jade stared at Madison in disbelief. "How are you able to block me? You're not just an ordinary human!"

"Who told you I was? You've been cultivating for a few hundred years, haven't you? Your progress must've been smooth sailing if you can't even sense a cultivator's presence."

In truth, Madison had expected Jade to sense her presence and flee in terror. Not only was Jade unafraid, but she actually coveted Madison's body. How bold and ignorant. It made things easier for Madison, though.

Jade's eyes widened at the word "cultivator". "Y-You're a cultivator? Don't lie to me! My sisters always said cultivators are old and either in monk robes or bald! There's no way a cultivator could be someone as young and pretty as you!"

She scoffed. "With a face like that, you could make a fortune in so many ways. Why would you waste your time cultivating?" Jade did not believe it at all.

Madison chuckled softly. "If you don't believe me, why don't you find out for yourself?"

With a flick of her wrist, four talismans flew to the corners of the room. In an instant, a golden light formed a cage around Jade, trapping her inside. The cage began to shrink, the golden beams slowly closing in on her.

Jade's snake tail lashed out at the golden light, but it was no use. The light turned into ropes, binding her tightly.

"You... You..."

Madison looked down at Jade, who was now writhing on the floor. She called out toward the balcony, "You can come out now." Vincent, Josephine, and Jordan stepped out from where they had been hiding. Both Vincent and Josephine stared at Jade with a mixture of shock and disbelief.

The face was still Jade's, but where her legs should have been, there was now a snake's tail.

Josephine turned away, trembling. "There are really monsters in this world?"

Madison nodded. "With the rapid advancement of technology, the types of environment where demons can thrive have diminished. These days, only those born with innate abilities can survive and become spirits or demons.

"This snake demon was born with spiritual roots. She has been hiding in the mountains for a few hundred years, which is how she managed to take human form."

Jade stared at her in confusion. "How do you know my origins?"

Madison gave her a brief look. "The techniques you're using have traces of Bodist influence. You must have cultivated while listening to sacred chants."

Jade's mouth clamped shut.

Madison continued, "If you had just stayed on the path of cultivation, you could've achieved something great in the future. But alas..." "Alas what?" Jade snapped, her voice filled with frustration. "What's there to regret? What's the point of achieving 'greatness'? What, am I supposed to ascend? No one has ascended in over a thousand years."

She sneered, "Besides, the human world is so much more fun now. It's way better than it used to be. I don't care about ascending. I want to live in the human world and enjoy myself! I'll just do what I want."

Jordan, who had been silent this whole time, finally spoke up, his voice shaking, "Am I part of your fun too? Jade, tell me that's not true. You love me, right? You must love me... right?"

Jade looked away, her snake-like eyes darting around. She was unable to meet his gaze.
