The Game Of Quadruplet Mates -
(Bk 2) Chapter 48
"Stop fidgeting." Tedros kindly reminded me, as we stood along the entrance of the mansion.
"I'm not fidgeting." I argued, but continued to fidget, pulling on my white top and trying to brush away dust that wasn't there.
"You're fidgeting." He almost whistles out in a teasing tone.
"You're perfect, Jewel. You have nothing to worry about-"
As always, I am overthinking yet again. "What if I remind him of my father too much? It's the hair. It's too blonde.
The eyes. Too blue. This is your father, Tedros. I want him to like me. But since I resemble my father so much, who apparently was destined mates with the love of his life?! know I would be foaming in the mouth if the situation was reversed."
"They were best friends, you know." He tells me calmly, always knowing the right thing to say to have me stop and stare. "My father doesn't talk about Alpha Jeremy too much, but when 'he does, he only has good things to say about him. So relax. He will love you, just as I love you."
The parents are supposed to be in the gardens right now while the rest of the newly married and mated couples wait around inside the mansion, waiting for the time that we are let out to see our families
"Your mother, you never talk about her. What is she like?" Tedros asked, making me look up at him.
"She was a survivor from the war that happened in the City pack. She was one of those that was taken from her home when she was little, her family k i ll e d and her entire pack slaughtered in front of her. She was sent to work in. one of the rich homes, working day and night." I explained quietly. It wasn't that I was ashamed of her, it's just that people often disregarded her and, as much as possible, my mother preferred not to be mentioned. "She likes to keep to herself. She doesn't like attention, but she's so wise and she's so pretty. She's so hard working too. She just likes to stay away from people. She had a really hard time when she was taken by the original City pack and it was hard for her after the war. There was a lot of adjustment that she didn't exactly cope well with." "I'm sorry for asking. I didn't know..." He trailed off, shaking his head in guilt. "I shouldn't have asked."
"No. It's okay. She's okay." I assured him, happy to tell him that my mother is safe and well taken care of now. "Just ask me about anything. We're mates. We should be open to each other."
His curiosity got the better of him. "How did your parents meet?"
"When my father was given the city to lead, he spent all his time and energy rebuilding everything. When the people that were saved during the war had nowhere else to go, he took care of them too. He met her through that." I see the question in his eyes, the comparison between a destined mate's love to another. I see how he didn't understand, how he didn't think mates like us could find someone else with the way we felt for each other. "I don't think my father settled if that's what you're wondering. Though I'm sure if things were different, he would choose Luna June in a heartbeat. But in this situation, I think my father loves my mother very much. He learned to love her in time because it
- definitely took some time. Years. And more years. It was a quiet love. They would sometimes joke that they met way before, when my father lived in the city in his youth and how she served him breakfast and he didn't notice her."
Tedros decides to be honest, like he always is. "I don't think I could love anyone else but you. I don't think I could ever let you go."
I took his hand and squeezed it tight. "I feel the same way."
Larissa suddenly walks in front of the crowd of couples, standing in front of the doors that separates the mansion from the garden. She is beautiful like her son, with thick dark hair and intelligent, charming eyes. Though Otto doesn't have the same color as her eyes, having inherited his father's light ones, he certainly had the shape of hers.
But his hair, his famous hair, was all Larissa.
She sees me in the crowd and instead of showing how sad she was that I didn't end up with her son, she smiles at me like she was proud.
"Good morning, lovebirds." It was the first time we weren't called attendees. "Today the organizers bid you farewell. It has been a long week of fun, of laughter, of love and we are pleased to see all of you following your heart, leaving the Games with your mates and your families."
The singles were not with us. They would meet their families in the grand ballroom
But I did notice who wasn't here; Emily and Wylan.
Otto was right. Wylan did leave the Games during the Choosing, not waiting for it to finish with Emily following right behind him.
Emily will no doubt be imprisoned or banished.
And Wylan has lost his chance to be an Alpha forever.
Larissa bowed at us, looking emotional. "We wish everyone an amazing future ahead and we hope that you never forget your time at the Games."
As she says this, the doors open and I squint, the morning sun bright and beautiful. When my eyes finally adjust to the sunlight, I see the gardens decorated festively in bright colors of yellow, orange, red, purples, blues and pinks. The trees are woven with dangling fabrics and beautiful streamers.
Just as we walked down, I ran to hug Larissa, who automatically wrapped her arms around me.
"I am so happy for you, my girl." She whispers, holding me close.
. "You deserve all of this happiness and more. I am glad it worked out in the end."
I can only nod, my chest tight with emotion.
"You'll take care of her, won't you, Tedros?" She asks the man standing beside me, close as usual.
"I swear I will." He tells her, giving her a respectful tilt of his head
She pushes me lightly into Tedros' awaiting arms. "Go, your mother and father are here. They're waiting for you."
Waving good bye and promising to see her back at home, i walked my fingers with Tedros and walked to the gardens in search of our family. We do not see them at first, passing squealing mothers and laughing fathers. There were couples crying happily, gushing about their new lives.
I knew where to go as I walked towards a direction where my heart pulled and, right as 'thought I might be wrong, I saw them. The power that is exuding from them is unmatched. Two men, big and strong and powerful. One was of hair so blonde it was almost white. The other was of hair so black it was obsidian like my mate's. They were different, yet at the same time, they were so alike.
Both our father's stances are relaxed and calm, not at all like How they usually are. They were talking, facing each other and they looked like old friends and maybe even long lost brothers.
Alpha Ajax in particular was smiling, his expression soft. It looked so out of place his steel like face. I have never met this man before in my life, but I know he does not do this often. He did not smile for just anyone.
And my father, who has spent most of my life within his borders, avoiding everyone else, has never looked so at peace in the presence of another.
There was something about them, a bond that not everyone had
It's almost impossible to think that they both wanted the same girl before
There was no hostility, there were no ill intentions, only two men who had obviously missed each other.
As if noticing my stare, my father turned to face me and his face lit up, his baby blue eyes were brighter than any other color in the garden. He spreads his arms wide and I'm running before I could even think, throwing myself at him and holding him ever so tightly "How are you?" He manages, burying his face in my hair." They told me everything." "I'm okay, dad. I'm really okay." I assured him.
He pulls away only to offer me a smäll smile. "Good..
Because everything has been handled and I don't want you to think of anything else. I am so proud of you. You carried yourself so well."
"She looks exactly like you, Jeremy." The voice of the other Alpha surprised me. It is a deep baritone like his son, but is so incredibly intimidating, that a weaker werewolf would either run away or pee at the mere sound of him. "Too pretty for your own good as always, pretty boy."
He was teasing, making fun and I couldn't help but laugh because it did not suit him.
He is very frightening, the kind of person that no one wants lo anger
But here he was teasing his long lost brother.
My father rolled his eyes at the other Alpha and suddenly they both looked so much younger. It's as if they were back in the old days. "Jewel, I want to introduce you to my best friend, my old Alpha and the man who taught me "everything I know; Ajax."
tilted my head forward in greeting. "It's an honor to meet you, Alpha Ajax."
"An exact replica." The Alpha mused with a shake of his head. "It's like 'm talking to you but with longer hair."
My father groaned at him but looked proud of this nonetheless. He liked it when people noticed we looked exactly alike.
Finally, the Alpha's attention was on me, and his eyes, oh his eyes, it was Tedros' eyes. It was bright and yellow, a mysterious pair of orbs that drew you in. "This meeting is long overdue but it is good to finally meet you, Jewel. I have only heard great things." I did 'not expect the man who has won wars, who has done so much, to be like this.
Suddenly, Alpha Ajax grabs Tedros' shoulder in a tight grip and gestures to my father. "Would you like to introduce yourself to the father of your mate?"
Tedros nodded his head towards my father respectfully. It is the most I've seen him do for anyone apart from his mother. "Alpha Jeremy, I am Tedros, my father's eldest."
My father regards Tedros with a long steely look, but then he laughs and playfully shoves the other Alpha." "He is not like you at all, Ajax. You are lucky."
Alpha Ajax smiles, lifting an eyebrow. "He's all June. Most of the time at least."
The mention of Tedros' mother makes my father stiffen a
-little but he quickly recovers, agreeing. "And I heard your daughter is exactly like you."
""A menace? Yes." Alpha Ajax jokes, but his sharp yellow eyes noticed the slight change in his old Beta. "You should visit us, Jeremy. It's time you visited your old home in the mountains. Maybe show Jewel around. It has been too long since you have been away." I worried for a moment about what my father would say but he surprised me by nodding.
"I think that's a very good idea." He says before facing
Tedros. "Is it still the same back there?"
"Beautiful and peaceful as ever, Alpha," Tedros answers, doing his best to be what he promised me, like how fathers love, him.
"Call me Jeremy. We're family now." As my father says this, a hint of emotion in his voice, the corners of his eyes watering a little, but he blinks it away.
I know that it is of happiness this time.
"Bring Konstantin if you must, and his family as well." Alpha Ajax grumbles before quickly adding, "Just make sure he cleans up after himself."
"I heard that!" Konstantin bellowed from across the gardens, stomping his way over at us. He was in the black uniform of the guards, his cap a little askew. "Forget about me standing watch over my son for the last seven days as a guard in the Games, but you weren't even going to invite me?"
"Have you learned to clean up after yourself?" Alpha Ajax asked, unimpressed and very intimidating.
"Larissa can-" Konstantin was smacked across the face. by his mate, carrying a thick stack of papers.
She scrunches her nose up at him. "I will not clean up after you."
I see the moment Alpha Ajax's eyes soften, an expression that melts every hard exterior and leaving only love as he stares at something behind us, and when I look back, I see his mate, his Luna, walking towards us with my mother in tow.
My mother was a farm girl in her past life with her dark tanned skin and her thick brown hair. Years of hard work are clear in her face and arms and legs, but years of my father pampering her have done well in making her healthier and fuller.
The two mothers had their arms locked together as if they were close friends and, although my mother is socially awkward with these kinds of interactions, I know it is not hard to be friends with someone as nice as Luna June. "I's really pretty," My mother shyly says.
And I couldn't help but smile, proud that she even got a word out. "Hi mom, this is Tedros."
Tedros smiles at her widely, doing his best to not look as intimidating and bows at her like he had just met a queen.
"Hello, Luna."
My mother wasn't a Luna.
Not in paper.
But Tedros didn't care about those things.
"I am pleased to meet the woman that gave life and raised such a wonderful daughter."
My heart melted as I stared for a moment, trying to memorize every detail. Tedros' smile. The proud look from his mother. His father who was shaking his head like he didn't know where that came from. To Konstantin and Larissa, who both looked surprised and amazed.
Finally, to my father, happy and contented and approving of all of this.
The Games were right.
This is the best thing that's ever happened to me.
