The Human In The Wolf Pack -
Chapter 29
The day was filled with tearfilled reunions, introductions, and lots of catching up. Even as the sun began to sink, the pack and the Gifted merged, talking and getting to know each other. It was a dream come true, being back here. Seeing the wolves and the Gifted together, smiling and getting to know one another was the beginning of my dream. I was happy, beyond happy. I had missed all of this so much, more than I had thought possible.
“Are you ready to go back to our cabin?” Rider asked, drawing my attention away from the mingling individuals.
The thought of us being alone together again sent my heart fluttering. There was so much I needed to say to him, to ask him, but all I could think about was how much I missed his arms around me, or his lips against mine. But I hadn’t seen him in almost two years, and I could tell he had changed. I doubted things could be the same as the were, even for the short amount of time we had left, but I just missed him.
He gave me a hesitant smile before walking towards the house we had shared, leaving the clearing we had all gathered in. Seeing his back turned to me, walking away, I quickly stood from my seat on a dry logged trunk and hurried after him.
“Wait!” I called out to him.
He looked back at me, his grey eyes expectant. I felt a devilish grin curve my lips.
“I know a shortcut.” I grabbed Rider’s hand, the familiar calloused feeling comforting. I took in a deep breath and envisioned the cabin we had shared.
The wooden exterior with red window panes, and a red door. A front porch with white rocking chair. The wild flowers that grew outside, and the tree with white bark, the smell of birch wood. Then, we traveled through space. It was like blinking, only your eyes never shut. Within one moment and the next, we stood in front of our house, my ears popping lightly once it was over.
I looked over at Rider, tentative. He seemed surprised at first as he blinked at our surroundings before he let out a slight chuckle.
“I’m no longer surprised,” He smiled at me, squeezing my hand reassuringly in his grasp. I beamed at him, warmth flooding my chest. It was an incredible feeling to be accepted by the person you loved.
I shook my head, clearing my mind for a moment. I turned my attention back to the house, and scaled the steps of the porch. The wooden boards creaked slightly, and the door squeaked as I opened it. The air smelled stale, stagnant. It wasn’t the homey place I remembered. Dust covered the living room. The mantle, the coffee table, even the floors. Everything looked untouched, as if nobody had lived there in a long time. The stairs creaked as Rider approached me from behind, wrapping an arm around my waist. Meeting his eyes, I wasn’t sure what to think.
“So you accept me and the Gifted? With all of this weirdness, I wouldn’t be surprised if you reject me,” I tell him softly. His arm around my waist tightened slightly at my words.
“You didn’t see me when you were gone,” He said, his voice gruff.
“It was like my soul had left. I was hollowed out, everything good about me and about this world disappeared,” He continued, his grey eyes somber as he looked down at me.
“It was so hard to leave,” I whispered, laying my head on his chest.
“I didn’t want to, especially after the mark, but it was extremely important. Life and death important. If I didn’t absolutely have to, you have to know I never willingly would, Rider.”
“What happened, Ver? What did you do while you were gone?”
I gave him a soft smile.
“I learned how to use my powers, which are mostly mental, like teleportation, telekinesis and telepathy. There are some other abilities, but they’re a bit hard to explain. I learned that I was chosen to be queen of the Gifted, who all have some supernatural ability. After I was finished preparing, I came rushing back. What about you? What has my big, bad alpha been dong?” I asked, getting on my tiptoes to k**s the skin exposed on his neck.
He shivered lightly, clutching me a little harder to him.
“Looking for you,” he answered, voice rough.
I slowly looked into his eyes, seeing the grey turn dark and intense. I swallowed, nervous.
“I missed you so much,” I said, eyeing Rider’s slowly approaching mouth.
“I missed you too, Kitten.”
Then his lips were on mine. It was electrifying and gentle, a reuniting of souls. I gasped at the feeling of something powerful clicking back into place. Suddenly, everything wasn’t so gentle anymore. It was hungry and passionate. The only thing slowing us down was the fact that I’m so much shorter than him. Rider seemed to realize this as well, because then, I was in his arms, straddling his waist as he quickly mounted the stairs toward the bedroom.
Fire burned through our bodies as we ravaged each other, both of us just wanting to be closer. Rider threw open the door to the guest bedroom, and slammed the door shut with his foot, our lips never leaving each other. His mouth began to leave a trail of k****s down my neck as he walked to the bed. I gasped at the explosion of sparks against my skin, tiny fireworks dancing everywhere he touched. I ran my fingers through his dark locks, enjoying the feeling of each strand as I tugged on them. He let out a low growl, nipping my skin lightly. I gasped, and he laid me on the bed.
He quickly straddled me, and he moved between my legs. Our lips parted as he took of his shirt, throwing it aside carelessly as we desperately sought each other out. My eyes ran over his body. His slightly tanned skin, his leaner, but still muscled body. I could see a scar running down his abdomen, and it drew my eyes to his V-line. A happy trail peaked out, and disappeared down the waistband of his pants. The sight of it made my mouth dry, as I swallowed. My hands moved on their own, my fingers brushing a gentle trail down his body.
He shivered under my touch, his breath heavy as he watched me with heady eyes. My eyes couldn’t leave him, entranced. His lips quickly met mine again, hot and needy. I gave into him completely, melting under the desire that was him. That night, for the first time, Rider and I mated, and we truly became one.

Sleeping in Rider’s arms was one of the most wonderful things God has ever created. Tristan’s sense of timing was one of the worst. The door to our bedroom swung over and banged violently against the wall. Rider was immediately awake, throwing his body over mine, protectively.
“Queen Vera the-” Tristan blanched, I ducked under the covers, hiding my naked form as a nearly bare Rider glared at him..
I blushed brightly, peaking out at him from under the sheet as Rider growled dangerously.
“Out!” Ri roared.
Tristan happily obliged, slamming the door back shut. Rider and I looked at each other for a moment, stunned. Then, I giggled softly.
“I guess that’s our wake up call.”
He nodded reluctantly, getting up to shower. We got ready in a hurry, and I found my clothes exactly where I had left them. We met Tristen down stairs in twenty minutes later.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him, seeing his tense expression.
“We’ve received a message from Dax. Reviera is getting closer,” He stated, eyes down caste at the end of the statement.
I felt a sliver of concern shoot through me.
“How much time?”
“About a month, tops.”
I nodded, taking a deep breath.
“Wait, whose Reviera?” Rider asked, sounding a bit exasperated at the fact that he was out of the loop.
“You didn’t tell him?” Tristen asked, shocked.
“We were busy.”
“I saw that,” he said with contempt.
“Watch it, human,” Rider growled.
“I’d listen to your own words, werewolf. I’m a stronger opponent than you’re ready for,” Tristan snapped back.
“Both of you stop,” I said coldly, annoyed.
“Tristan, leave. I didn’t take you to be the type to start petty arguments. You more than anyone else knows how important these next few weeks will be.” He nodded briskly, shooting me an apologetic look before leaving.
“And you,” I said, turning towards my mate.
“You’re an alpha, not a pup. Start acting like it,” I demanded.
He gaped at me, but I turned somber.
“Reviera is extremely dangerous. She’s murderous, evil and will kill everyone in this pack if we don’t do something,” I explained to Rider, whose face was turning more and more deadly by the second.
“But most importantly,” I say, drawing in a deep breath.
“She’s my biological sister.”
