The Human In The Wolf Pack -
Epilogue
“In the end, we saved the World. We all sacrificed more than we ever thought we would have to, and in the end, we weren’t sure what we had left for ourselves. But as the years went by, we started to heal, and the world around us began to change. Werewolves found out that they no longer had mates, they were free to fall in love with whoever they wanted. That choice wasn’t taken from them anymore. Enemies could now become friends, and we could create our own destiny. We could find our own happy ever after,” I smiled, looking down at the children sitting on the floor.
“Is that why you don’t have your powers anymore, Luna?” One of the kids asked, her flaming red hair similar to that of her father, Theo.
“The Luna lost her powers in the battle, when she was injured by Reviera,” Rider cut in, turning the corner and entering the day care.
I beamed at the man, standing to meet him. He placed a k**s on my lips, and the kids let out sounds of disgust. I giggled, turning back to look at the group. It had been five years since the day where I had felt everything was lost, but life had gone on. It seemed cruel at the time, that the world kept spinning when I felt like it had ended, but now, I was grateful.
“Rose had called, she said she had some important news, and wanted to know when you were going to visit,” Rider told me, nuzzling my neck.
“I’ll call her in a bit. Adele, are you okay by yourself?” I asked, looking at the pretty girl.
She had grown in the last five years, and was now seventeen. Our angel was on her way to becoming an adult, and was just as pretty now as she had been before. She smiled softly at me before answering.
“Dax will be here to help soon, so you don’t have to worry. Besides, it’s almost snack time,” She told me.
I gave her a grateful look before stepping over to one of the cribs they had set up for nap time. Inside, a baby laid sleeping. She had pale skin with a pretty pink flush, and a head full of dark locks. She was only three months old, but was surprisingly easy to take care of, unlike her brother. I picked her up carefully before looking for the troublemaker himself.
“Tristan,” I called to the four year old. “We need to go with daddy now.”
The boy spun to look at me, pouting. He was the spitting image of his father. He had Rider’s black hair, and grey eyes, but I could see parts of me in there, somewhere in the shape of his lips and the way he smiled.
“But it’s snack time,” He murmured, looking at the cheese and crackers that Adele was setting out with longing.
Rider chuckled before scooping the boy up.
“We can have all the snacks you want when we get home,” Rider promised, lightly tapping his forehead against his son’s.
I smiled at the pair of them, two peas in a pod. As we walked home to our cabin, I became lost in thought. Things were hard at first. We had lost forty nine of the Gifted, and almost a hundred of the wolves. I was in shock for five days. I couldn’t eat or drink, and Rider was worried that I would lose the baby, but Rose, Ripley, Eliza, Adele and Dax all helped. Nobody blamed me for what happened, but they told me how glad they were that I was alive. We buried our people, and I realized that if Tristan was here, he would have slapped me for being so pathetic.
He told me I was strong, but just a bit too forgiving. So maybe, I should be a bit more forgiving to myself. Most of the Gifted stayed in the pack, like I had hoped. Eliza decided to raise Adele and Dax, who didn’t have a family to return to. I gave birth to Tristan, and him being born seemed to help people heal. Many of the Gifted settled down, and had families of their own, some even with werewolves. It was interesting, seeing how the kids turned out. It seemed like a fifty fifty chance whether the kids carried the werewolf gene or the Gifted gene. Tristan had the werewolf gene, but we weren’t sure about our youngest, Adelaide.
But one thing was for sure, mates were no longer a thing. It was proof that the Gods no longer had control over our destiny. I was glad that my kids would be able to find love for themselves, not that I regretted meeting Rider, but I wanted them to be able to choose their destiny. Things were looking up.
“When are we going to visit grandma and grandpa?” Tristan asked, peaking over at me from Rider’s shoulder.
“We should be going down in a week, why? Are you excited to play with Lily?” I teased him, giving him a big grin.
He blushed, and turned around wordlessly while I giggled at my cute son. Lily was Rose’s daughter, who she had a year after I had Tristan. The two were best friends, and always begged us to make trips so that they could see each other. I wasn’t sure what would happen down the road, but I was excited to see what life had to offer my children.
Once we got home, I put Adelaide to sleep in the nursery while Rider gave Tristan a pack of gummies and a banana. He took off with what he was offered, towards the living room. I watched as he opened the pack clumsily and stuffed the snack in his mouth while he took out his toys. Rider came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me. He placed a k**s on my cheek as I sank into him.
“It’s crazy how time flies, huh?” He mused, watching our son play.
“It does, doesn’t it?”
“Before we know it, he’ll be our age and have his own kids.”
I giggled at the thought, turning in my mate’s arms.
“Well, only time will tell. He’ll make his own fate,” I smiled looking up into the man’s grey orbs.
Rider’s hand reached up and cupped my cheek, and for a moment, I savored the warmth his presence gave me.
“I guess I’m pretty like to be the Human in the Wolf Pack,” I said softly, basking in his presence.
He pressed a k**s to my lips.
“And I’m lucky to be mated to that Human.”
I beamed at him, but soon, our moment was over. Tristan screamed eww, and the baby started crying. Our crazy lives resumed, but they were our lives. We made our own choices, we walked our own paths.
And that hope made the past a little less painful, and the future a little more sweet.
