The Hybrid’s Second Chance -
Chapter 37
Logan's POV
I woke up in the morning excited but also anxious about what was going to be happening today. I hadn't heard from Margaret yet, but the plan was for her to try and get Julianna today and bring her to me. Ian had arranged the safe house for me and made sure Julia would be comfortable but secure. Large heavy locks had been put on the basement door, which is where she would be kept.
He moved a bed down there and made sure the bathroom was stocked. We added a large silver chain that would go around her ankle and allow her to move around the room, but she wouldn't be able to get up the stairs. The windows were too high and small, she wouldn't be able to crawl out. I had made sure she would be kept safe and secure, until her mom made me the potion. Tyler added five extra patrol groups to what we already had. It would have to be enough because that was all the experienced warriors we had. After showering and changing, I headed down for breakfast. My father was already sitting at our table when I got there. "Logan," he said curtly.
"Dad," I replied. We hadn't been speaking much since we yelled at each other in my office. He was keeping to himself, which was okay with me. I didn't need his constant disapproving stare or his mumbled annoyances. The way I ran this pack wasn't up to him and he hated not having control. Once I had Julia back with me, I knew I would have to send him away or lock him up. He wouldn't waste any time in trying to kill her. That much I was sure about. The loss wouldn't be that great for me, since I was growing tired of his resentment. An omega brought us our food, and we ate in welcome silence. I finished first and started getting up from the table.
"Where are you going?" Asked my dad.
"To my office, I have some things to take care of today."
"What things?"
"Things that don't concern you anymore."
"You better watch your tone Logan, I'm still your father. Or have you forgotten all the things I've done for you? All the doors I've opened so you can have an easy Alpha life."
"I haven't forgotten, but you need to remember who the Alpha of this pack is now. Your tyrannical reign is over." Turning, I walked out of the dining hall, leaving him very red in the face.
"He's gonna come after us for that. That's the maddest I've ever seen him," remarked Levi.
"It doesn't matter. Once we have Julia, he'll be gone and a distant memory."
"You don't think he'll retaliate for banishing him?"
"What can he do? He'll be killed for trying to enter pack lands once he's a rouge."
"You're okay with killing your own father?"
"Yes, if it means keeping my mate, I'll do whatever I have to." How could he not understand this sharing a mind with me? The only thing that mattered in this situation was getting Julia back and keeping her with me at all costs. The first thing I did when I got back to my office was check my phone for any missed calls. It was getting later in the morning, and I still hadn't heard anything. I was trying to distract myself with pack matters, but it was difficult. Finally, I decided to give Margaret a call and see what was taking so long. She picked up after only two rings.
"Are you crazy, calling me?"
"I want to know what's happening. Why is it taking so long?"
"I told you; I would do my best. I'm on my way to Alexander's house now and I plan to take her on a tour and get her alone in the woods."
"How are you going to subdue her then?"
"I'm working on that part now. I'll think of something."
"Make sure you take her out for a while. She's the daughter of an Alpha, any injury will heal quickly."
"I know that. She healed from the knife wound faster than most would have."
"Really?" I didn't know that. Maybe she was more powerful than even I knew. That only fueled my desire to have her that much more. With her by my side, we could be unstoppable. I would let her practice her powers, unlike my i***t father. She would learn every spell under the sun, even the dark ones. Every pack in the area would bend to our will, even the Lycan pack. I would make them all mine.
"Logan, are you still there?" Margaret called on the other end.
"Yes, yes I am. Work as fast as you can."
"I plan to. I'm going to meet her now. Meet me at the boarder where she was found in two hours. That should give me plenty of time."
"Two hours, I'll be there. You better not screw this up. This is the only chance we have."
"I'm not going to screw this up. I should be saying that to you. You still have to get her mother to make the potion for us and give it to both of them. That's much more important than anything else."
"I said I would get it done and I will."
"Fine, two hours. Don't forget." She hung up the phone before I could say anything else.
"This is finally happening; our mate is coming home."
"Yes, and we need to make sure we get that potion at once." I needed to let Tyler and lan know what was happening so they could get into position.
"Tyler, lan, my office. Now."
"Yes Alpha." They marched in a few minutes later.
"It's happening in two hours. She'll be at our borders, and we have to take her straight to the safe house. Once she's there, I want both of you to stay with her. I have a plan to get her mother to show up." "Wait, Sandra's in the dungeons with Marvin."
"Not her you i***t, her birth mother. The witch. Once she shows up, I'll demand she make a potion for me that will make Julia forget about being mated to the Lycan King. After that I'll mate and mark her and she'll be mine forever." "How do you plan to make her show up?" lan asked.
"I'll need one of you to hurt Julia. Not too much, but enough that her mother will know she's in trouble and come running. I have a feeling she's going to go straight to Marvin, so that's where I'll be."
"A brilliant plan, Alpha," Tyler told me.
"If I want your praise, I'll ask for it. Is the safe house ready?"
"Yes Alpha."
"You stocked it will food? And made sure she has a comfortable place?"
"Yes, Alpha. I've done everything you've asked."
"Good, make any last-minute preparations you need to and both of you be at the safe house in one hour. I'll talk to you more about everything after I bring her."
"Yes, Alpha." Ian and Tyler left my office, exchanging worried sort of looks. I knew they didn't approve of what I was doing, but that didn't matter. I was their Alpha, and they were going to do what they were told whether they liked it or not. "You better hope they don't say anything about this to your father," Levi noted. "You never told them not to."
"Fu*k, you're right. They wouldn't be stupid enough to do something like that."
"You better be right." A few more minutes went by, and I realized I hadn't given lan any extra clothes for Julia. Getting up, I went to my apartment. Everything Julia had left was still there. All her clothes had been placed in the closet, and her art supplies had been set up in the living room on the drawing table I had made. If I was going to make her think I was her mate, it had to be convincing. I gathered up some clothes, pajamas, and some shower supplies for her. Grabbing a bag, I added everything I had gotten. I didn't know how long I would need to keep her in the safe house, but I figured it couldn't be more than a couple of days.
"Ian, I left a bag for Julia inside the front door of my apartment. I want you to come get it and take it to the safe house for her. Make sure she can access everything that's there."
"Okay Alpha, I'll be right there."
"The door's unlocked. Just take it and go."
"Yes, Alpha." After making sure everything was in the bag, I went back to my office to take care of a few pack matters before most of my time was taken up. Unfortunately, I ran into my father outside my office door. "Logan, I need to talk to you."
"Not now, I'm far too busy for that." I tried to push past him, but he caught me by the arm.
"You better not still be after the hybrid."
"Why does that matter so much to you? It's my decision who I take for a mate."
"That might be so, but I spent years making this pack what it is, and you won't ruin it with your stubbornness."
"I'm done talking about this with you." I yanked my arm out of his grasp. "If you don't like it, you're free to leave this pack and never come back." Before he said anything else, I went into my office, slamming the door in his face, making sure to lock it so he couldn't follow me. An hour or so later, I left my office and headed for the woods. I wanted to be there early in case anything happened. I wasn't going to miss this opportunity.
