The Hybrid’s Second Chance -
Chapter 53
Alexander's
POV
Julia was quiet on our drive back to Crystal Sky. She was staring out the window, but I could feel the wheels turning in her head, along with the anxiety and confusion. I reached over, and took her hand in mine, trying to help calm her down. "Talk to me sweets, what are you thinking about?"
"I'm just thinking about what we should do if we manage to find out information about my birth mother's coven."
"What do you wanna do?"
"I don't know.... I'd like to go there and help her, but walking into a coven of witches that's not so fond of wolves doesn't seem like the best idea."
"Maybe there's another way. Maybe we can do something else to help her."
"Like what?"
"I'm not sure either. Let's start with researching her coven first. We can't do anything if we don't know where she is."
"True, I wouldn't be surprised if their location was protected. We might not even be able to find it." The rest of the car ride was spent in silence while both of us worked out what we should do in our heads.
"Elijah, Hannah, will you meet Julia and me outside the pack house in ten minutes?"
"Sure thing, what's going on?"
"After talking with Alpha Marvin, Julia wants to do some research on her birth mother's coven. I thought four people working would be faster than two."
"Yeah, we're happy to help."
"Hannah and Elijah are gonna meet us and help us go through books in the library. I figured it would go faster that way."
"Thanks, that's a good idea." Once we arrived back home, the four of us went inside the pack house, and I showed Julia the library. There was still so much I hadn't shown her yet, and watching her face light up with excitement when she looked around made me smile.
"This place is amazing!" she said, looking around from shelf to shelf, row and row of books.
"I spent a lot of time here when I was in school," I told her.
"Alex always had his nose in a book, trying to learn whatever he could about this pack and how to be king," Hannah joked.
"I'm guessing that wasn't the way you used the library?" Julia laughed.
"The upstairs study area made for a great hideaway," Hannah said, looking sideways at Elijah, who smiled.
"Gross, I don't need to know about that," I told her.
"Like you didn't use it for exactly the same thing," she teased. Julia snickered next to me.
"What's so funny?"
"Just picturing you taking girls up there because you still lived with your parents, how romantic it must have been for them."
"I'll take you up there and show you just how romantic it can be." I flashed her an image of me tying her up to one of the chairs and torturing her with the vibrator. Please with myself when I could sense her arousal through our bond.
"Two can play that game," she said slyly before flashing me an image of her completely naked on top of me. Biting her lip, I knew she could sense my now fully hard co*k pushing against the zipper of my pants.
"Julia, Alex? Are you listening to me?"
"What?" we both said at the same time.
"I said, what information are we looking to find?" Hannah repeated.
"Oh, we just want to try to find where the High Noon Coven is located," Julia said, blushing slightly.
"All the information we want should be over here," I said, leading everyone in the direction of our sections on witches and witchcraft. Pulling books off the shelf, we set up shop at a large table. Scattering the books over the entire surface, we each took time to flip through the pages and try to find what we needed. After an hour or so, Elijah called out. Updated by FindNovel.net.
"I think I found something!" I moved a large stack of books we had gone through already so we could all see him.
"Listen to this. In the year 1692, a war erupted between the High Noon Coven and the Midnight Sun wolf pack. The High Priestess mated to the Alpha, and their match was thought to be a happy uniting of two supernatural beings. This was not to last, however, as the Beta of the wolf pack soon killed the High Priestess under direct orders from the Alpha. It is said that the Beta grew jealous of the power she possessed and feared their coven would one day become more powerful than their pack. Feeding the Alpha false information, he soon grew paranoid that the coven was plotting his death. Many believe the Alpha was not in the proper mental state due to an act of betrayal.
Once she was killed, the Beta then turned his attention to the coven. Wanting to leave no trace behind of what he had done and fearing revenge on the witches' part. The war nearly wiped the High Noon coven from the face of the earth, as only a small number of them survived. Moving far from the area, the elders forbid anyone from ever mating with a wolf again. There was the promise of death, should they betray this law. The coven has kept to themselves far from humans and wolves since this incident. The Midnight Sun pack was dismantled after the war because so few pack members survived. The survivors were absorbed into nearby packs and the war was all but forgotten about."
"Sh*t, that explains why your mom didn't want the elders to find out about you. It sounds like they'd kill you both."
"She told me giving you up was the hardest decisions she's ever had to make."
"Does it say anything else?" Julia asked after giving me a solemn look.
"No, it doesn't even give their original location," Elijah told her.
"I might have found something though," Hannah chimed in.
"Is it their location?" asked Julia, going to stand by Hannah.
"No, it's nothing like that, but it's how witches can find people they're looking for, even if they don't know where they are."
"How is that possible?" I asked her.
"It's called scrying. You can use crystals, water, a mirror, or other reflective surfaces to get a sense of someone's distance and direction. When using crystals, a map is also involved. Dangle the crystal from a string, hold it over the map and think of the person you are trying to locate. Using an object the subject has touched or owns makes the scrying more powerful. Using water, mirrors, or other reflective surfaces requires more skill and precision."
"So, doing this would give us Cornelia's location?" Elijah confirmed.
"It seems like it," Hannah told him.
"But I don't know how to use my powers. I've never even tried it before that I can remember. Marvin told me I had them when I was younger, but I was banned from using them the second Gregory let me stay."
"What harm is there in trying?" I asked her.
"We don't have anything that she's touched though."
"Actually, I think we do," I said. Everyone looked at me confused. "Cornelia made the potion right, she touched everything that went into it and the vial that it came in." "Okay," Julia said.
"I saved the tea my mother made me that she put the potion in, and I'd bet you any amount of money, the vial it came in is in our kitchen trash as well."
"You think that could work? I'm sure the tea diluted the potion, and your mom touched it as well. It might just lead us to her instead of Cornelia," Elijah added.
"Yes, but it's worth a try. We'll know if it's just pointing to our pack."
"Okay, go get them," Julia said. "Do we have any type of map or crystals?"
"I think there's a couple of amethysts floating around on the covers of a couple of books," Hannah told her.
"Let's find one."
"I'll go find a map and some string," Elijah said, getting to his feet. Each of us set off in different directions, with me heading out of the pack house and to our apartment. Reaching the kitchen, I pulled out the Tupperware that held the leftover tainted tea. Opening the trash can, I didn't have to rummage long to find the small glass vial under a few crumpled up napkins. Satisfied with what I had; I went back to find everyone else in the library. By the time I got back, Elijah was laying out a large map of the states on the table, while Julia was tying the string to a large purple crystal Hannah must have found.
"I found it," I announced, holding the vial up in the air. Julia smiled, while Hannah came to take it from me.
"This is great!" She went back to study the book she had read about scrying from. "It says to hold the object in your hand, along with the string of the crystal."
"Okay, I have it all tied," Julia said, holding up the crystal. "Goddess, I hope this works." Hannah handed Julia the vial, she took it and attached it to the end of the string. Holding the crystal over the map, we waited.
"It says to move the crystal around the map," Hannah added after a couple minutes of waiting silently. Julia moved her hand slowly, guiding the crystal around the map. We waited, but still nothing happened. Julia looked at me with defeat and desperation in her eyes.
"It's okay," I told her. "Just concentrate on Cornelia and how much you want to find her. Here, dip the crystal in the potion mixture." She nodded, as I opened the lid for her. Dunking the crystal in the liquid, she focused her attention back on the map. After another couple of minutes of looking at the crystal, I noticed it was starting to move in a circle. Slowly but surely, the crystal started to spin.
"Are you doing that?" I asked Julia.
"No, it's doing that on its own." We all watched as the crystal dropped, landing straight up on the map. We all bent over the map to look at where it was pointing to. "Minnesota? Her coven's in Minnesota?" Hannah asked.
