The Hybrid’s Second Chance -
Chapter 76
Julianna's POV
I kissed Alex on the cheek before leaving the hospital and going back to the pack house to find my mom.
"Mom, are you awake?"
"Good morning, Julia, yes I am. Just finishing up getting ready."
"I'm headed your way. We met Beth and Cornelia in the hospital, but they didn't know where you were. I'll meet you outside your room." "Just come in, the door's unlocked."
"Alright, see you in a second." When I got to my mom's door, I knocked before going in just to let her know I was there.
"Hey sweetie!" she called from the bathroom.
"Hey mom!"
"How's Marvin doing this morning?"
"He's okay, no change really. Sandra has Abigail and Jordyn coming to see him too."
"Oh good, I was worried she wouldn't tell them what was happening. She doesn't like to worry them if she doesn't have to."
"This seems pretty big not to tell them," I commented.
"I know, but Beth can be weird sometimes." My mom finally came out of the bathroom, looking very nice in some white shorts and a black T-shirt. "You look nice," I told her.
"Thanks, Cornelia popped in last night and brought me some clothes since we left in such a hurry."
"We should get some stuff for Beth. She was wearing the same thing she came in with," Sofia told me.
"Sh*t, you're right! I didn't even think of that!"
"It did all happen really fast, we can't always think of everything," she reminded me.
"If they end up staying here, Hannah is gonna be more than happy to take everyone on a shopping spree," I joked.
"Are you okay?" my mom asked after my prolonged silence.
"Oh, yeah, sorry. Just talking to Sofia. Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah, let's go." She followed me out of her room and down the stairs. We passed the dining hall where I caught a couple of words a few young pack members were whispering.
"Yeah, apparently someone tried to poison him and Alpha Alexander had him brought here."
"Why? Why are we even getting involved with a wolf pack?"
"Because he was the Beta of Luna Julianna's old pack and practically like her father."
"Is she really part witch?"
"Umm, yeah. Haven't you been close to her? You can smell it plain as day."
"Why would the Moon Goddess mate the King with a wolf-witch hybrid?"
"I don't know, but have you noticed how many weird things have happened since she showed up? I mean she turns up stabbed inside our borders to begin with." I glanced at my mom who must have been listening in on the same conversation I was. "Don't let them bother you. No matter what you do, not everyone is going to be happy you're here. The Moon Goddess paired you with Alexander for a reason, and don't you ever question that." I looked at the three young girls gossiping, they made eye contact with me, and each turned a different shade of red as they shuffled away, deeper into the dining hall.
"Listen to your mom, Julia. Those girls are just jealous that we're a bada** hybrid mated to the hottest Lycan, and they're just ordinary," Sofia said sternly. What she said didn't make the awkward looks and whispers any easier to take. As my mom and I got outside, I noticed five confused and worried-looking people at the bottom of the stairs. I recognized Jordyn and Abigail, even though I hadn't seen them in a long time
"Sandra!" Jordyn yelled out when she spotted us. She and her sister ran up the stairs at us, as their mates followed closely behind, but there was an older man with them I had never seen before.
"Abigail, Jordyn! You're here!" my mom declared when they got to us.
"Where's our mom and dad?" Abigail demanded.
"Abby, give her a second," a tall blonde man with striking features said. His face looked like it was sculpted from clay, with high defined cheek bones and prominent eyebrows. His dark brown eyes held a kindness, even if his face didn't. "Colson, I just want to know what's going on," she huffed in his direction.
"Why don't we at least say hello first," Jordyn suggested. She then turned to me and my mom. "Hi Sandra, Julianna, it's nice to see you again. I'm sure you remember my mate Hendrix." Looking at the man standing behind her, his name fit his look. He was heavily tattooed, to the point where the only part of him that didn't have some type of ink was his face, from what I could see. He had jet black hair that was in a short buzz cut, and his biceps looked larger than my thighs combined. He had dark blue eyes that I wasn't able to read as he looked at me.
"It's nice to see you guys again," Sandra told her. Hendrix only nodded once.
"Oh, this is my father-in-law, Vincent," Jordyn said, indicating to the older man behind her I didn't know. "He wanted to come because his mom was an Elf and he thought he might be able to use some of their healing abilities on my dad." "It's nice to meet you," my mom said.
"Yes, it's good to see you all and welcome to my pack, Crystal Sky," I told them.
"You're pack?" Abigail questioned.
"Yes, I'm mated to King Alpha Alexander," I told her bluntly. I forgot how insufferable Abigail could be.
"She seems like a b***h," Sofia commented.
"You have no idea."
"It's nice to meet you, Luna Queen," Colson said, reaching around Abigail to shake my hand.
"It's nice to meet you, and please, call me Julia or Julianna. Luna Queen seems so formal." Abigail looked me up and down, with a look on her face as if she was smelling something sour.
"Would you please explain what is going on with our dad?" Jordyn asked, giving her sister a seething look.
"It's a long story, but I'll try to explain it as quickly as I can," I said. My mom and I began to tell the story, starting with me mating to Logan because that's where Marvin's involvement began and why he was in the position he is now.
"So, we put Marvin in the Alpha position of October Moon because he had the most experience and I hoped he would be able to bring positive change to the pack after Logan. He made my mom his Beta for the same reason. It didn't seem like everyone was happy with that decision."Which we expected," my mom added. "But we in no way expected some to react like they did."
"It all came to a head yesterday. Marvin was in his office and mine and your mom were together. Your mom got this painful feeling, and she knew something bad had happened to your dad."
"We found him lying on the floor in his office, having drunk something. We immediately took him to the hospital, and I let Julia know. Cornelia brought her and Alexander here to help."
"I noticed how the doctor and nurses really weren't doing much to help, and finally it hit me. The doctor had something to do with poisoning him, he had to. With his lack of attention and all he wanted to do was wait and see what happened. I confronted the doctor, and he went crazy. He started saying how none of them should be here and Gregory was a better Alpha."
"Then he pulled a g*n on us and wanted to kill us."
"Luckily, Cornelia and Alex got the better of him. We brought your dad back here the second we could and took him to our hospital. Our doctor, Dr. Williams, said he was poisoned with wolfsbane and a lot of silver. He's not sure what the outcome will be, but your dad hasn't gotten any worse, which is a positive sign. Your mom is with him in the hospital right now." All five of them were looking at us with shocked expressions, their mouths hanging open slightly.
"I don't understand," Jordyn said. "We had no idea any of this was happening."
"I know, and I'm sorry your mom and dad didn't tell you. I guess they thought since it all turned out okay, they didn't need to."
"Until yesterday, that is." Abigail added with an annoyed smirk.
"Yes, I think that's why she told you."
"Why don't we go see her and talk to her," Colson suggested. "Julianna and Sandra aren't the ones that decided not to tell you. It's your mom you need to talk to."
"You're right," Abigail said, looking from Colson to me with a cold sort of look. "Can you take us to the hospital?"
"Yeah, follow us," I told her.
"Well, that was pleasant," Sofia said with a bark laugh.
"I know she's upset, so maybe once she talks to Beth, she'll lose the ice queen attitude." We all walked in awkward silence to the hospital. When we got there, I led the way to Marvin's room, opening the door to reveal Alex, Cornelia, and Beth all gathered around Marvin's bed. All three of them looked at the seven of us. As soon as their eyes fell on us and our eyes met them, I felt an odd energy shift in the room. It was like a magnetic force had descended on the room, but it wasn't angry or sad, it was happy and joyous. It felt like love had flooded this room from every corner. I heard a guttural word from behind me, that made my mind explode.
"Mate," was what I heard from Vincent as he stalked right past us and towards Cornelia, who, it seemed, was frozen in time.
"Did he just say what I think he said?" Sofia asked with an open-mouthed excited expression.
