Marvin's POV

Everyone had left the room except for Beth, Jordyn, Hendrix, Abigail, and Colson.

"Can you believe about Cornelia and Vincent?" I said, trying to make light of the tension that was beginning to radiate from my two daughters.

"Just to confirm, she's Julianna's birth mother?" Jordyn asked.

"Yes," I told her.

"But Julianna didn't meet her until recently because Cornelia had to give her up to protect her?"

"Correct."

"That is a very long and complicated story," Colson commented.

"You have no idea," I said.

"I still don't understand why you didn't tell us any of this was happening. Do you know how confusing it was to find out you were in the hospital after being poisoned?" Abigail said.

"It just didn't seem like you needed to be bothered about what had happened with Gregory. And I was fine, so I thought everything worked out."

"We were planning to tell you about your dad becoming Alpha once we got the pack in order," Beth told them.

"And how long was that going to take?" Abby said incredulously.

"I thought maybe a month tops. I never expected what happened to happen."

"Clearly," Abby said, folding her arms.

"Abby, give them a break. Clearly, they've had a lot to deal with over here. Not everyone has time to just lay out working on their tan and traipsing around Italy," Jordyn barked at her. Abby opened her mouth to argue back, but Beth got there first. "Enough, both of you!" She said in a commanding tone. Both girls shut their mouths. Even though they were both well into their 30's, they still couldn't argue with an outranking wolf.

"We can all be angry with your mother and I another time. Can we simply enjoy this time we get to have together? Time, I might remind you, we almost didn't have." I wanted to remind them; I almost didn't wake up from all this.

"You're right," Jordyn said, giving Abby a side stare. "What are you planning to do with October Moon after all of this? You can't seriously be thinking about going back and being their Alpha."

"I haven't really had much time to think about it," I admitted. "I would like to go back and find the person who did this to me, but I'm not sure I ever will."

"Well, was anyone in your office right before you?" Colson asked.

"Not that I'm aware of. I tried to keep the door locked but that doesn't mean someone didn't break in."

"It's just something we may never know," Beth added. Dr. Williams walked back into the room, a bewildered look on his face.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

"Pretty good, still weak and I haven't been able to reach Ray yet."

"That's probably because the silver is still lingering in your system for some reason. There's not a lot left, but the fact that you're awake right now without Ray healing you is a Goddess-given miracle."

"Doctor, you don't think all that silver was enough to hurt Ray to the point where he..." Beth trailed off but we all knew what she was trying to say. We all wanted to know if it had been enough to kill Ray, and the only reason I was alive was because of the Moon Goddess.

"I think it's too early to go there just yet. For an older wolf, a lot of silver and wolfsbane weakens them more than a younger wolf, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it would kill him. What I want to do is try to flush your system one more time and see where we're at after that." "Okay," I said.

"I'll send someone in to hook up another bag of fluids," he said.

"Thank you, Dr. Williams," I said. He smiled at all of us and walked away. I let out a sigh, thinking about what it would mean if Ray really wasn't going to come back from this.

"Don't think about that," Beth said, taking my hand. She must have been able to feel the anxiety I had. "You heard Dr. Williams, it's too early to tell."

"I know, but it's something I still have to think about."

"Dad, mom's right. Let's not worry about that until we have to," Jordyn said.

"Hello everyone," a new nurse said, as he came into the room. "I'm Desmond, it's nice to meet you all."

"Hi Desmond," I said. He had a large bag full of fluids that he began hanging on my IV hook, then began hooking my IV to the bag.

"I'll be back to check on how you're doing soon," he said before he left.

"Now, I don't want to talk about myself or my situation anymore," I said, looking at my daughters. "I want to hear about you and how it's been going in your packs." We spent the next hour or so talking about how their lives were going. They told me about some of the trips they had taken, and I had to admit I was jealous of the freedom they still had.

"It sounds like things have been going well for you guys, we really should start having dinner together a couple of times a month. It's been too long since we've seen you." Jordyn squeezed my hand.

"I know, I'm sorry. Maybe if we had been here, we could have helped you more." Hendrix placed his large hand on her shoulder. Anxiety and fear suddenly flooded my body, but it didn't belong to me. I looked at Beth who was sitting rigid in her chair, with a far-away look on her face.

"Beth, what's the matter?" I asked, reaching for her.

"It's Sandra, all she said was help, Gregory, lake."

"What? That doesn't make any sense. Alexander killed Gregory."

"I know, I thought that too. I have to go see what's happening," she declared, getting to her feet.

"I'll come with you," I told her, attempting to throw back the covers, even though I was still hooked up to several machines.

"You'll do no such thing," she said, shoving me down.

"Dad, we'll go with mom and help," Jordyn said.

"Speak for yourself," Abby told her, looking annoyed.

"You're coming," Jordyn said sternly. "These people saved dad's life, you're going to go help and try to repay that debt."

"Fine, guilt me, why don't you," Abby said, throwing her hands in the air.

"I'll let you know what we find," Beth told me, kissing my cheek. Her, Jordyn, Hendrix, Abby, and Colson all exited the room, leaving me to worry by myself.

Several minutes had passed without hearing anything from Beth or the other four. Panic was beginning to set in the longer the silence dragged on. What if Gregory was still alive and he had come back, but that didn't make sense? He wouldn't be able to command the October Moon army without his title as Alpha. Unless they took my disappearance to mean I had left them. Or this had been his plan all along. Kill me to get back his title. This was ridiculous. I needed to know what was happening. "Beth, what's going on? You need to give me something"

"I'm a little busy at the moment," she grunted.

"Why? What's happening?"

"Grogory is in fact alive," she said with difficulty.

"WHAT?! How is that possible?"

"I don't know but he is. He's got a lot of warriors here."

"I'm coming to help!"

"No, if you get out of that bed, I'll reject you where you stand. Do you hear me?! Besides, without Ray you can't shift."

"Fu*k.... I can't just do nothing!"

"We have this covered. I'll come back once this is over." She cut the link, and I threw my head back into my pillow. How was I supposed to sit here while my family was fighting a war? The good news was, if I could mind link her, that meant Ray was alive in some respect. "Ray! You better fu*king answer me!" I heard a faint whining in my head, meaning at least he was there, which gave me comfort. The beeping of my heart monitor was getting faster and faster. Suddenly, Dr. Williams appeared in my room. "What's going on Alpha?" he asked.

"Grogory is here! He has Sandra or something. My family went to help, but how am I supposed to just sit here?" He came to look at my monitors.

"I understand your frustration, but if your wolf still isn't responding, the only thing you would be doing is putting yourself in danger. Our warriors are very skilled and would never let anyone hurt any one of our pack members. Alpha Alexander will do whatever he can to protect your family. I knew he was right, but it still didn't make my inability to help any easier to swallow. "I'm going to go prep some rooms and supplies in case anyone comes in inured," he said, sweeping from the room.

It was unclear to me how long I sat there in silence waiting for news about what had happened. I hadn't felt any horrible pain, which meant at least Beth was still alive. The fate of everyone else was still unknown. The door to my room swung open, and I looked to see Beth standing in the doorway. She was only wearing a long T-shirt I assumed Cornelia had given her. Her face was looking at the floor, but what I felt radiating from her body into our bond was nothing short of unimaginable grief. Finally, looking up at me, I saw her eyes were red, and tear marks were running down her face. Someone was dead......

"Beth...." I stammered. She came forward into my room, not saying one word. "Who is it?" I breathed, terrified of what she would say? Did I lose one of my children? What about Julianna? Had all my efforts to protect her been in vain? "Sandra...." she said shakily before collapsing on the bed into my arms. Her sadness and grief washed over me, as her words soaked into my brain. No, that couldn't be. Julianna couldn't lose her mother, our best friend, and my Beta. "How?" was all I managed to say.

"I don't know, I didn't see. All I saw was Gregory holding a knife to Julianna." Tears were now falling from my eyes, as I held my mate close. How was this nightmare still not over? "Gregory is alive?"

"He was. Alexander killed him. For good this time."

"And the kids?"

"They're all fine, Hendrix and Colson too." I let out a breath of relief knowing they were all safe. No more words were exchanged as the two of us held each other, thinking about nothing else except Sandra.
