The Imperial Wolf Series Books 1-3 -
Chapter 21
Kate POV
I awake to Wan standing over me in the bedroom. Erick and Angie are not in the room; it is only the two of us. I try to focus on Wan. "What is happening to me?" I ask him meekly.
"It is hard to explain, but I will try to explain it in the bluntest way possible. Kate, we are an extraordinary breed of wolves. That is why they are so afraid of you. You represent a wolf that cannot be taken down," Wan says. "Wan, I do not know what I am," I say to him.
"The wolves are trying to connect with you. They found you when you finally turned, and now they want you back with the pack. Your brother is trying to locate you," Wan says.
"I have a brother; where is he?" I ask.
"Your brother is the Alpha. His name is Macon, and he is your twin," Wan says.
"I do not understand. How do you know all of this?" I ask him.
"Because my father Killian was in charge of protecting you after you left the pack," Wan says.
"Protecting me, he did not do a very good job," I growl.
"My father died protecting you, Kate. That is when the pack decided to tell everyone you were dead," Wan says.
"I do not understand, again. My father told me that my mother died when I was six. The pack banned us from the pack shortly after her death. My father took me, and everyone thought I was dead then," I say.
"Not exactly. Your mother died when you were about six, that is correct. Thomas, the man who raised you, was not your father. Everyone knew you were gone, but so many were looking for you and Macon that the pack decided to separate the two of you. The pack leaders told other packs that you were dead and that Macon went to be with his father," Wan says.
"Is my father still alive?" I ask.
"Your father is a delicate subject. He is alive," Wan says.
"Why?" I ask.
"Kate, I think I should take you to Macon. He should explain everything to you," Wan says.
"I need the wolves to stop screaming at me when I am sleeping, Wan. Can you make the wolves stop?" I ask Wan.
"They will stop now that you have agreed to see Macon," Wan says.
"I did not agree to go see Macon," I say.
"Yes, you did. I can see it in your eyes. You need to know where you came from; the unknown is killing you," Wan says.
"Do you know my brother well?" I ask.
"Of course I do; he is my Alpha," Wan says.
"Why don't you live with the pack?" I ask him.
"I stayed with my mother to protect her and help her. It is so much you do not know about the imperials and our great powers," Wan says.
"I want to know," I say.
"You will, I promise. I will take you to Macon today," Wan says.
"Thank you," I say to him.
"I need to take my mother home first. Erick and you should meet me at the cabins later today," Wan says.
"We will be there. Do you need our help with your mother?" I ask Wan.
"Cassie and Andrew are both assisting me with her," Wan says.
"Good. Thanks for helping me. I know that losing your mother cannot be easy," I say to him.
"No, it is not easy as you know better than anyone," Wan says.
"I do not remember anything," I say to Wan.
"Your wolf remembers. It would be best if you let go so your wolf can help you piece your past together," Wan says. "How do I do that?" I ask.
"Remember when you turned for the first time? You let go and let your wolf take over. That is all you have to do; just let go," Wan says. "I will try," I say.
"You have no idea how strong you are; we are. We are mighty warriors, Kate. It is time you accept who and what you are," Wan says.
"I understand," I say.
Wan leaves the bedroom. I can hear him talking to Erick about what we discussed. After a few moments, Erick comes into the bedroom to check on me. "Do you feel better?" Erick asks.
"I do; Wan helped me understand a little bit about what is going on with me," I say.
"Good, because it hurts me to see you this way," Erick says.
"Are you sure you want to marry me?" I ask.
Erick takes my hand. "There is no one on this earth I would rather be with right now. No matter what, I want to be there for you," Erick says. "Wan told me I have a brother, and he is the Alpha," I say.
"Your brother is Macon?" Erick asks.
"That is what Wan said. He said we are twins," I say.
All of the colors drain from Erick's face. He is ghostly pale and looks terrified. I touch his face softly. "Erick, what is the matter?" I ask.
"Your brother Macon is a vicious wolf," Erick says.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Macon is over the imperial wolf pack that is south of us. There are two imperial wolf packs. One belongs to Macon and the other to Lester. Macon is unruly and vicious. Lester is more calm and easy to deal with than Macon. If my mother knew this, that might be why she wanted you dead," Erick says.
"Are you telling me that my brother is evil?" I ask.
"He is more than evil," Erick says.
"Wan wants to take me to see him so he can tell me about my past," I say.
"Are you going?" Erick asks me.
"Yes, I have a brother, and I want to meet him and get to know him," I say.
"Kate, he is not like you. He is a great evil. Something I cannot even explain to you," Erick says.
"Erick, I have to go to him. I have to find out what happened to my mother and why people are trying to kill me," I say.
"People are trying to kill you because they know your brother is evil. I beg you do not go to him," Erick says.
"I am sorry, Erick, but I have to go," I say.
"I will respect your decision, but I do not like it," Erick says.
Erick sits on the edge of the bed quietly. I know he is worried, but I have to go. I need this.
