Chapter 50

Shawn

POV

I arrive at the Alpha's house with Cassie. She is nervous and worried about Kate. Hell, we all are worried about Kate and the baby.

"Wait, before you go into the house, I need to tell you something. Kate is acting off, like not herself. I understand she has been through a lot. She was kidnapped, then fell into some strange sleep cycle, then drugged, but still, she offered Austin to me. It seems off. She would never do that," Cassie says to me. "I will be able to link with her and see what is going on with her. So do not worry. We will take care of her," I say to Cassie.

I get out of the truck and walk up onto the porch. I am nervous for some reason. Cassie is right something seems off here. I open the door to the house and go inside. Alpha Erick meets me at the door. "She is waiting for you up the stairs in the master bedroom. She wants to see you alone, Shawn," Alpha Erick says.

"Okay, I will go up and see her. I am sure everything is fine. You guys don't need to worry so much," I say to Cassie and Alpha Erick, but the truth is I am worried too. Why would she want to see me alone? "Alexander is coming," Alpha Erick says as I step on the first step going up to the master bedroom.

"Did she flip out about that?" I ask Alpha Erick.

"No, she said she was grateful," Alpha Erick says.

"That is off," I say without thinking.

"I know," Alpha Erick answers.

I go up the stairs leaving Alpha Erick at the bottom of the steps. I go into the room, and Kate is waiting for me. "Hey, Kate, how are you feeling?" I ask her.

"I feel much better, Shawn. I feel like myself for once in a very long time. Do you know what it feels like to not feel like yourself?" Kate asks me.

"Yes, I do," I answer as I sit on a chair across the room.

"Why are you sitting so far away? Are you afraid of me too? I can tell Erick is afraid of me. I can see it in his eyes and feel it in his touch. He is worried and afraid," Kate says.

"I am not afraid of you, Rainwater," I say to Kate.

"How did you know?" Kate asks me.

"I can tell by the look in your eyes, and you are in there with Kate, aren't you. You are lurking around trying to take her life over, but you cannot, not without help from Macon. That is why you are so grateful to see Alexander. You think he will give you Macon," I say to her.

"Kate is still here. I cannot surface the entire time, just in spurts, not yet anyway. I am a mighty Imperial, and I can rule all of you with this baby," she says in a hiss.

"Alpha Erick will never let that happen," I say to her.

"He will not have a choice. I could kill Kate and the baby. Is that what he wants?" she asks me.

"No, you know he loves her and the baby. Take someone else if being here and not on the spiritual plane is what you want. Has your daughter not suffered enough because of your choices?" I ask her.

She gets up and makes her way to me. I do not move. She does not scare me at all. I close my eyes and attempt to link with Kate. "Stop it!" she screams at me. She begins to scream louder. Alpha Erick runs into the room.

"He is trying to hurt the baby and me!" she screams to Alpha Erick.

This enrages Alpha Erick. He comes toward me. I stand up to him. "Rainwater is controlling your wife, not let me handle this!" I growl at Alpha Erick.

Cassie runs up the stairs to see what is happening. "Restrain her," I growl at Alpha Erick.

"Do not hurt her!" Alpha Erick growls at me.

"I am trying to help her damn you," I say to him.

Cassie grabs Kate and holds her on the bed as I try to mind link with her. Kate screams out as Cassie holds her. Alpha Erick gets on the bed with Kate and holds her, trying to calm her.

"What is going on? Let me go!" Kate screams.

I link into her mind and try to sever the connection with Rainwater. It is difficult to do with Kate so upset and screaming. Rainwater is strong and an old soul on the spiritual plane. I finally break the link. "Is she okay?" I ask.

Kate is crying as she lies with Alpha Erick. "I think so," Alpha Erick says.

"I tried to get Rainwater out of her head, but she is such an old soul there is really no way for me to do it. Alexander can help you release her. She is vicious," I say.

"What does she want from Kate?" Alpha Erick asks.

"What do you think she wants? She wants the baby," I answer him.

"Why does everyone want this baby? I get that the baby is a hybrid, but so are Kate and Macon," Cassie asks.

"It is more than that. Again we need some answers, and as much as I know you hate it, we need Alexander to help us with this," I say.

"Will Rainwater be back?" Alph Erick asks.

"Eventually, but I got her out of your hair for a little while. The spiritual wolves want to talk to her, and they want that baby. That baby can bust them off that spiritual plane they are stuck on right now. Think of it as a get out of hell free card," I say to Alpha Erick. "I will be damned!" Alpha Erick says.

"I can stay here until we figure out something more permanent for Kate," I say.

"Why was the baby keeping her on the spiritual plane? It was worried about her safety?" Cassie asks.

"Maybe it was not the baby," I answer Cassie.

"This is all too much," Kate whispers.
