Chapter 78

Kate POV

Erick is distraught. It is breaking my heart to see him so upset. I feel like some of this is my fault. I started a chain of events that caused the pack to shift into a bunch of disrespectful assholes.

I cannot let myself stress, not yet. I have to bring myself back in and center myself. I am not ready to fight the white wolf, and I do not want to fall into the darkness. I have my family back, and I want things to stay like this.

Erick is in his office. It is almost Seven. He is on edge. If Trip and Meaghan do not come this morning, I fear it will push him into someone he is not. He has never dealt with the way the wolves are acting out toward him right now. I know he feels he has to get them under control, but I fear it will change him. I guess this is the same worry he has for me.

Someone pulls into the driveway. I look out the window. It is John. He comes into the house and goes straight into Erick's office. They are talking loudly and growling. I wonder if this is about Trip. I will know soon enough. Trip and Meaghan are pulling into the house. She brought her son with her. I wonder why?

Trip comes into the house and goes into the office with Erick and Trip. The growling and loud talking continue. Meaghan comes in and brings her son with her. She looks upset.

"Are you upset because you are here with me?" I ask her. I know she does not want to be my wolf in waiting, but I do need her help until things are back to normal. Maybe we can become friends.

"No, it is Levi. He was sick all night and running a fever, but I was afraid that Alpha would toss us out of the pack or worse if we did not come. I am just worried about my baby," Meaghan says.

I move closer to her. She is crying and visibly upset. I would be worried too. I do not want them to fear Erick, and neither does he. He only wants his respect back. The respect I caused him to lose from his pack. "Let me have a look at him," I say to her. I move closer to her and her son. He does not look well.

"Meaghan, I would never ask you to put your child in danger. Why don't we take him to see the pack doctor? I will leave Belle with Erick," I suggest.

She nods her head and cries hard in relief. I go to the office door where and listen to the shouting for a moment. I push the door open.

"I am sorry to disturb the three of you, but I need to leave Belle with you, Erick. I have an emergency with Meaghan," I say.

Erick looks at me, puzzled. He gets up and follows me out of the office. He comes into the kitchen to take Belle with him. He looks at Levi in Meaghan's arms.

"He is sick," Erick says.

"Yes," Meaghan cries.

"I am taking her and Levi to the doctor, and we will be back. Keep an eye on Belle for me," I say.

Erick takes baby Belle. As he goes back into the office, I follow him. "No fussing and growling around my daughter, please, gentlemen," I say.

I leave the house with Meaghan. We take Erick's truck and drive straight to the pack doctor.

"You could have just called this morning, and I would have been fine with you not coming to help me," I say to her as we pull into the pack doctor's house.

"Alpha Erick did not tell you, did her?" Meaghan asks me.

"Tell me what?" I ask.

"Trip knew Cassie was leaving, but he did not say anything. Alpha is furious with him. I was afraid not to come this morning," Meaghan says.

"Always put your child first," I say to her.

"Thank you for being kind," Meaghan says.

Did she think I had turned into a monster? I guess I did for a while. I am trying to regain the trust of the pack. I think the best way to do is to be kind. Erick can be the dick. I need to show compassion for the pack. Meaghan and I go into the pack doctor's house. The older man is not here, only his son, Tibo. Tibo comes out and takes the three of us back to an exam room so he can get a look at Levi.

"His fever is too high. We need to start an IV and get some meds into him," Tibo says.

I reach out and take Meaghan's hand and hold it to offer comfort while Tibo takes Levi. She is distraught and crying.

"He will be fine," I say to her.

Meaghan shakes her head and cries harder. I cannot imagine how she feels. If Belle were sick, I would be crazy.

"He has been sick a lot over the past month. I do not know what I am doing wrong," Meaghan says, crying out in anguish.

"I am sure it is nothing that you are doing. You are a great mother," I say to her.

There is a lot of commotion coming from the next room, where Tibo took Levi to start his IV. "What is going on?" Meaghan exclaims. Meaghan and I both get up and rush to her baby boy. Tibo and his nurse are working frantically on him. I can see him turning blue.

"Meaghan, do you trust me?" I ask her.

"Yes, Luna, I trust you," Meaghan says.

I push past the doctor and nurse. "Move, I can help him," I say to them.

At first, Tibo and the nurse protest, but Meaghan moves in to let them know it is okay. "Let her help my son," Meaghan says.

I bite into my wrist, so my blood is dripping out of me. I place it over Levi's mouth and let it drip into him. Tibo and his nurse watch me, but Meaghan she does not watch. She holds her infant's sons' little hand and tells him, "Everything will be okay," When I am finished, I touch the top of his little head. "His fever is gone," I say.

Meaghan cries and takes her son into her arms. "Thank you, Luna. Thank you for saving him," Meaghan cries.

It feels good to be this, Kate. This is the woman I want to be. Not the feared hybrid with the white wolf beside her, but the hybrid that can help her pack and her Alpha.

I leave Meaghan, Tibo, and his nurse to look over baby Levi. I go outside. The overwhelming emotions that are erupting from me cannot be contained any longer. I need to release all of this. I fall to the ground and cry out. I scream, and it feels so good to feel myself again.

After about an hour, Meaghan and baby Levi come out. "Tibo says Levi is fine," Meaghan says.

The three of us get into the truck to go back to the house. I hope Erick, John, and Trip are okay. I thought he would let Trip come to check on his baby, but that did not happen.

We pull into the house. Alpha Erick and baby Belle are sitting outside waiting for us. Alpha comes to check on Levi.

"Is he okay?" he asks Meaghan.

"Yes, Kate saved him, Alpha. I am forever in your debt. I will serve Kate for as long as I live. She has my devotion, and so do you, Alpha," Meaghan says.

Meaghan takes baby Levi and goes into the house to begin her chores. Erick looks at me, puzzled. I get out of the truck and take baby Belle from him.

"Do you want to tell me what happened?" Erick asks.

"He was turning blue and not breathing. I did not know if it would work, but I gave him some of my blood, and it healed him," I say.

"She seems happy to be here with you, now," Erick says.

I smile at Erick. "I think we will be fine. It will take time for everyone to trust me again. I know that. I have to give them a reason to trust me, so when the white wolf does come for me, then everyone will help me defeat him," I say.

"I know you are worried, but we have to be patient. We will defeat the wolf, and you will be okay, Kate. You and Belle will be free from him," Erick says.

"I know, Erick. I am just afraid, that is all. I am trying to be strong for you and for our daughter," I say.

Erick and I walk into the house together. I notice that Trip is missing. I look at Erick, waiting for an explanation, but he does not offer one to Meaghan or me. He completely ignores the situation.

"Are you still comfortable leaving Belle here with Meaghan?" Erick asks me.

I look at Meaghan, working and tending to Levi. "If she wants to watch her. Looking after two small children plus this list of chores you have for her could be too much, Alpha," I say.

"I can make Trip help her. So, I can have time with you. I just want time for us to reconnect. That is all," Erick says.

"Okay but ask her. Don't be an asshole. Better yet, let me ask her. You can bark at somebody for a while," I say to Erick, laughing.

Erick kisses me before leaving me to talk to Meaghan.

"It is fine, and I can do all of this. I do not mind after what you did for Levi," Meaghan says, not even giving me a chance to ask her.

"You are not my slave, Meaghan. We do not have slaves. I would never ask you to take on more than you can do. If it is too much, just say so," I say to her.

"No, No, I owe you my son's life. Let me help you get back to yourself. I want to do this. I will admit I was terrified. I cried last night at the thought of being here. I am scared of the white wolf, but I know you want to be yourself again. I can see it. I will help you, Kate. I will be here for you and help you every step of the way," Meaghan says.

I know she would not feel this way if I had not helped Levi. I will take this small victory on my path to being myself again.

"Baby Belle is very easy to tend to, and she does not fuss much. I will feed her before we leave, and I will leave you some milk just in case. In an emergency, you can give her formula. She will not like it, but she will take it if she is hungry. Erick only wants us to spend some time together so we can reconnect. I am trying so hard to get my life back together. I almost lost everything," I say to Meaghan.

"Go get ready. Spend time with your husband. Calm his ass down and make him happy," Meaghan says, laughing.

"Erick is a little tense lately, isn't he?" I say.

"Yes, but it is because he loves you, and he is worried about you, Kate. He struggled so much with you being with the white wolf and the accusations you made toward him. It hurt him. I know you make it right. Everything can go back to normal. I am not stupid, I know the white wolf is not gone, but I want to help you. I am afraid, but I will not abandon you, Kate," Meaghan says.

"Thank you. I know you are afraid of me," I say.

"No, I am not afraid of you. I respect you, Kate. I am afraid of the wolf," Meaghan says.

I leave Meaghan and take baby Belle with me up the stairs. I am going to feed her and get ready for my date with my husband. I hope this peace lasts. It feels so good.
