Chapter

Under her skeptical gaze, I picked up my bag, ready to leave.

Suddenly, a truck came barreling toward us at full speed.

Ophelia and I didn't have time to react before we were both struck and thrown to the ground.

When I regained some clarity, we were pinned beneath the truck. Ophelia was unconscious. I struggled to pull her to a safe spot, barely able to catch my breath when a massive explosion erupted, setting the area ablaze. Thick smoke billowed as people scattered, fleeing in panic.

I tried to find an exit, but chaos reigned - debris was everywhere. A large, burning piece of the vehicle had fallen, blocking the path between Ophelia and me. At that moment, I saw Stephen rushing in. He went straight to Ophelia, lifting her without hesitation when she didn't respond.

"Stephen!" I shouted his name. He glanced back at me, then walked away without looking back, carrying Ophelia in his arms, resolute and unwavering. To him, nothing mattered more than Ophelia - least of all, me.

I must've looked a mess; if Ophelia were awake, she'd probably be ecstatic. The flames grew higher, and I began to succumb to the lack of oxygen, collapsing to the ground. Around me, there were only moans and desperate cries for help.

Looking back on my life, it was pitiful, really- to have wasted so much energy on a man who didn't love me, and now even my life might end here because of it. My vision began to blur, the scorching heat consuming me bit by bit...

In the haze, a figure seemed to rush toward me.

"Rosalie, wake up!"
