The Luna's Pure Heart -
The Luna’s Pure Heart – Chapter 21
(Eleanor pov)
When I made my way back upstairs, a young woman was waiting for me. She looked to be in her late twenties and had light blonde hair. She was a pretty girl with blue eyes and wore black slacks with a white button-up top.
Once she saw me stepping out of the elevator she smiled widely, walking toward me with her hand extended.
“Here Miss Winters, let me take that for you.” She said dryly and I held the bag tighter.
“Oh no, it’s okay, you don’t have to.” I said, trying to be nice but it caused her to frown as she looked at the bag once more.
“Please, I insist, King Damion has asked that I be your personal maid to help with anything you might need.” She said quickly, reaching out and yanking the bag from my hand.
“Oh..I hadn’t realized.” Well, that was news to me. He was actually acknowledging I was here to other people? I thought he would keep it as much of a secret as he could.
“Of course Miss Winters, once you are officially Queen you will probably need at least three maids to help out, especially after the first pup arrives.” She added, making me choke on my spit as she began walking. Pup?! I haven’t even had full eye contact from the guy yet, let alone something to bring a pup into this world. I tried to compose myself as I saw a smirk pull on the woman’s face.
“I will take these things to your room Miss.” The woman said and began walking down a hallway.
She said to my room..so I guess I do have a room. I followed her slowly and watched as she opened a door that was down the hallway on the opposite side of the kitchen. It was probably as far away from Damion’s room as you could possibly get.
Once she opened the door, inside was a king-size bed with a grey comforter. Everything was a dull grey color and matched perfectly. It looks meticulously clean and the room just felt lifeless and dull. Of course, I was grateful to have a room, and I wouldn’t complain one bit..but why did this room look like the rain cloud that I felt hanging over my head?
The woman placed the bag on my bed and began unpacking the clothes Lance packed for me.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t get your name.” I said softly, feeling awkward being in here with her and not even knowing her name.
“My name is Piper, Miss.” She said curtly and continued to hang up the clothes. Lance managed to shove a lot of stuff in there and even filled one drawer.
“Well, thank you, Piper, I appreciate the help.” I walked towards the bathroom and peeked inside. It looked pretty sleek and was decorated in the same grey color as everything else.
“Well, I hope you find everything suitable to your needs. I know the King’s last mate slept in his room with him, so I was surprised you were put in the guest room.” Piper said with a sideways glance. Her words made my stomach drop, causing a lump to form in my throat.
The first emotion I felt was jealousy, but then I quickly shoved it aside and what was left was understanding. Maybe that’s why Damion was being so precautious..because he lived with the last fake mate and she was lying the whole time. That probably messed him up and made it so he can’t trust so easily. I wondered for a moment if he kept it a secret that the last girl was a fake..because Piper called her his mate. Maybe she wasn’t aware of the situation or thought I didn’t know the full story. Either way, why was she bringing up his last mate to me like that?
‘I don’t like this girl.’
Kari grumbled, surprising me as I looked over at Piper once more. She was watching our every move that’s for sure. Maybe Damion sent her in here to spy on us, so he could make sure we weren’t tricking him like the last girl.
‘Or maybe she is just a bitch.’
Kari said bluntly, making me almost gasp. How was my wolf so tough? She was ruthless.
“Would you like me to draw you up a bath?” Piper asked her voice in a sickeningly sweet tone.
“I think I can manage, thank you though. I might just lay down and rest for now.” I said quickly, wanting to get her out of here. It felt weird to have someone doting on me honestly.
“Of course, you must be awfully tired visiting the Beta’s..I know they can be a handful.” She said with a smug tone, confusing me as I just nodded. I wasn’t sure what she meant by that, they have always been nice to me.
“If you need anything at all, just call with this phone here. Considering you aren’t a member of the pack yet.” The last part she said came out in a snobby tone and I had to push Kari into the back of my mind. I was pretty sure she was ready to attack Piper..that’s the last thing we need.
“Thank you again, I really appreciate it.” I said softly, watching as she turned and left the room.
As soon as the door closed I let out a deep breath I had been holding..why was everything here so stressful?
I slowly began looking through the room. This had to be the cleanest room I had ever seen. It was almost sterile it was so clean..I wondered for a moment if anyone had ever used it before. It had no sighs of life before me whatsoever. I even opened all the drawers and creepily looked under the bed. Nothing, not a dust bunny in sight. I wasn’t necessarily messy per-say, but I definitely wasn’t this clean. From what I can tell, Damion is definitely particular about his stuff so I would try to clean up after myself as well as I could. I guess coming from an omega background might have some perks.
I quickly walked into the bathroom and turned on the faucet. A hot bath was just what I needed…I haven’t taken a bath since a kid. Well before yesterday that is…I was pretty out of it yesterday but it still felt amazing.
I stripped off my pajamas and piled them neatly on the counter, afraid to mess anything up. I had a feeling Damion was very picky about things and where they should go.
After getting naked I slipped into the bath, the hot water instantly soothing my tense body as a long sigh left me. I wondered what it would have been like to meet Damion before the fake mate incident. Piper mentioned the other girl was in his room. Would he of brought me in there too? Maybe if I would have found him first he would have welcomed me with open arms.
‘We will never know, so there is no point in dwelling on it.’
Kari said firmly and I let out a sigh.
‘Well, doesn’t it feel a little better knowing he is probably pushing us away because he was hurt before?’
I said softly, causing her to scoff and curl up in the back of my mind. She was in a really bad mood today..maybe we can go out later so she can run around for a little while.
I felt her ears perk up from the tough, that must be exactly what she needs.
I ended up sitting in the bath for an hour and finally got out all wrinkly and clean. After drying my hair and dressing in a white long-sleeve shirt with black jeans, I was ready to venture out. I wanted to see more of the castle, maybe get something to eat, and see the kitchen.
You would think I would hate cooking by now, considering it was my job for ten years..but I actually love it. To create something people love with my bare hands, it was so fulfilling to me. Maybe I could find Jane and thank her for helping me later.
I slipped on some socks and a pair of black sneakers Lance gave me and went to walk toward the elevator.
Suddenly I froze in my tracks, a man was standing by the doors that I hadn’t seen before. I looked at him nervously and saw he had a blank expression as he stood by the door with his hands behind his back like he was guarding something.
“Hello.” I said awkwardly, not sure what to do.
The man just nodded, his stance even stronger as his eyes glanced at me quickly and then looked away once more. He was probably in his thirties, his build tall and muscular with short brown hair and soft brown eyes. He had light tan skin and a long scarr across his l*p. He wore a black long-sleeve shirt and black pants.
I went to walk to the elevator, feeling nervous now, and tried to push the button.
“Excuse me, Miss, I cannot let you do that.” He said suddenly, startling me as I pulled my hand back.
“Oh, I’m sorry, is the elevator broken?” I thought, maybe he was waiting for someone to come to fix it.
He glanced at me once more, his eyes studying me as he cleared his throat, speaking again.
“No, Miss Winters, The Alpha King has instructed me to make sure you do not leave the floor.” He said sternly, his voice clear and confident.
“Oh…I see.” I whispered, confusion fully setting in now. Kari began to pace, that annoyance back once again.
“Is..is there a certain reason why?” I wondered out loud. Why could he possibly not want me to leave?
Suddenly I noticed the man’s eyes clouding over, he was clearly linking someone.
“The Alpha King wanted me to relay that it is because you continue to disobey his request about the Beta Miss Winters.” He said cooly and my body stiffened.
Embarrassment filled me as the guard glanced at me once more. Did he really believe I was trying to sleep with Lance?! Who does he think I am? This was officially pissing me off now..so I could never see Lance again because he is jealous..is that what this is? Why else would he say no to visiting the Beta’s…
‘I say we give him a reason to be jealous.’
Kari growled mischievously and I close the link quickly..I didn’t like where this idea was going.
“I just went down to get some clothes.” I grumbled, crossing my arms in front of my chest and looking away.
I let out a long sigh, peering up at the guard once more, realizing he had been studying me.
“Well..how long am I supposed to stay here for?” I asked, wondering if I was grounded or something…he seriously was locking me in here for visiting Lance…
“Until the Alpha King says otherwise, Miss Winters.” The guard said with a serious tone. I wasn’t too fond of this ‘Miss Winters’ it made me feel weird.
“You can call me Elle..please.” I said softly, having these people address me so formally bugged me for some reason. I guess because I didn’t know what I was anymore. Am I the Alpha King’s mate or just some girl who is being held here against her will?
“I can’t do that Miss Winters.” The guard added, looking straight ahead once more.
“Well, what should I call you then? Other than my gatekeeper.” I said, feeling frustrated, making his eyes drift to mine. A hint of a smile formed on his lips as he straightened his back once more.
“You may call me Pierce, Miss.” He said more softly this time. I nodded my head and couldn’t help but sigh once more. I guess I can just make lunch then.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you Pierce..is it okay if I go make lunch?” I don’t know why I was even asking him for permission…I realized my mistake as soon as he looked at me with confusion and then nodded slowly.
I walked back towards the kitchen, feeling flustered by this whole thing. Maybe some baking will do me good..or something. I furrowed my brows as I walked into the kitchen and washed my hands.
Why was this so frustrating? At least before when I was at B***d Moon I could walk around and leave my room occasionally.
I began looking around the kitchen for everything I needed to make scones. I found the baking sheet and mixing bowl, then discovered the pantry. Wow was everything neatly organized..and labeled..this was insane. How could someone be so precise?
I grabbed the flour and sugar and brought them out to the counter. I quickly measured everything I needed and began making my mixture and added the butter. The key to making scones was to not over work the dough, that was what Helen had taught me.
I couldn’t help but let my mind drift to Damion as I baked. The picture of him in my mind was so clearly different than the man before me. Let’s just say..he is freaking gorgeous…I can’t deny that. Even when he just wears his button-up shirt and slacks I can tell he takes care of his body well.
He was tall too..really tall…I’m pretty sure my head just reached his chest. Suddenly the stove beeped and I quickly finished rolling out my dough and cutting it into little triangles. I loved baking, it was actually relaxing for me and helped me unwind. I don’t know why but it helped loosen up my thoughts and let them all out.
I just made plain vanilla bean scones and decided to ice them afterward. I place the tray on the counter to let the dough set before baking as I washed my hands and cleaned up my workspace.
Glancing back, I noticed Pierce still standing there, he hadn’t even moved an inch. I went to the refrigerator and grabbed a bottle of water. He had to be thirsty..did Damion expect him to stand there all day and night?
I walked towards him, carrying the bottle of water as he straightened his back once more.
“Here, you must be thirsty.” I said softly, extending my hand to offer him the water. He nodded his head and surprisingly took it.
“Listen, I know you don’t really know me, but I can promise I’m not going to try and run away or something. So if you need to use the bathroom or sit down I can give you my word I won’t bolt the first chance I get.” I said with a soft laugh, making him meet my gaze once more.
“I have to follow orders, Miss Winters.” He said firmly, looking past me once more, being the dutiful warrior that he is.
“I understand, I just wanted to let you know.” I added, turning away and going back towards the kitchen.
“Thank you…Miss Winters.” He suddenly blurted, causing me to turn my head and smile softly. I could tell he appreciated my kind gesture but I knew he wouldn’t go against the Alpha King..and I don’t blame him.
Afterward, I went back to the kitchen and placed the scones in the oven, setting the timer for twenty minutes and pulled myself onto the counter, and sat down. Damion would probably flip seeing me sitting up here..with how clean the house is, I’m sure I am breaking some type of rule. I let my feet dangle on the edge as I bent my head down, letting my hands grip the sides. I wondered for a moment what Helen and everyone else was doing. Did Rachel or the twins meet their mates? Were they still working in the kitchen or did they find something else they liked to do?
My mind went back to that night, seeing Helen crying out for me, the terrified expression on their faces. What would have happened if I crossed that line? Would Malcolm really have killed us all? Or would we have been able to get away? Just then…I realized I never broke the pack bond. I was still connected to B***d Moon. I would technically be a rogue if I did, what would that mean?
‘Do it Elle, reject the pack.’
Kari whispered, feeling the same as me. I would rather be a rogue than have ties to B***d Moon..the pack that killed my parents..that hurt and beat my friends. The pack that was going to sell me. The pack that was going to make me a slave.
“I, Eleanor Winters, Reject…” I closed my eyes and whispered. Before I could even finish my sentence, I felt a hand wrap around my neck, squeezing me tightly as a low rumbling growl filled the room and shook me to my core.
