When Hunter crushed his l!ps to mine, I knew this was what I needed. I needed him touching me, to be inside me. He was so vulnerable today with the wolfsbane and the silver. They could have killed him and he wouldn't have been able to protect himself.

I didn't want to think about the past. I only wanted to focus on the future with my mate and our family. I kissed this man who had me pushed up against the wall with such passion that I was dripping. My hands were on his cheeks, holding him in place while I licked his bottom l!p. He thrust his tongue into my mouth, and I never wanted him to pull away. I didn't care that my lungs were screaming for more air. This man was my air, my everything, and I wouldn't live without him. "Baby, are you okay?" He panted, when he pulled his lips from mine. We were both breathless as he rested his forehead against mine.

Hunter pushed off of me and removed his shirt, while I pulled down my leggings and discarded my br.a that was still hanging off my arms. I pushed myself up the bed to the pillows and watched Hunter as I sat up on my elbows.

With his clothes gone, Hunter climbed up the bed, kissing his way up my body until he was settled between my legs. My arms wrapped around his neck as he s.ucked on his mark. "Hunter, are you okay?" I breathed out after I caught my breath. Hunter let out a sigh before pulling me closer, his arms wrapped around my shoulders.

"I was terrified, Kailen. As soon as I saw you at the top of the stairs again, what were you thinking?" He said.

"I needed to protect you. Hunter, I can't live without you. I know you think I'm strong, but I'm not when it comes to you." I said, my voice cracking at just the thought of not having him.

"I'm sorry, babe. I'm sorry I wasn't able to protect you. That you felt the need to protect me. You are carrying our pups and I was so scared that he was going to shift and rip you apart," he said.

"He wanted me alive, and I played that angle. Also, his son helped to get me out of there. He heard his father talking and my students came up with a plan to get me out of there so they wouldn't inject me with wolfsbane." I told him.

"I should never have let this happen. I thought I could keep you safe." He breathed out. I could hear his guilt.

"Baby, you didn't know. We even have an army here. This should never have happened. It's my fault. They wanted me and they dragged all of you into this." I told him, resting on my elbow so I could look at him.

"Kailen, your birth isn't your fault. Those greedy bastards wanted you to give them a boy so they could have some kind of power. It may not even be true. Our son could be completely normal. But they take that chance. To kill everyone here and use you for their entertainment." He finished with a growl. I leaned down to kiss his chest before looking back up at him.

"Can you feel Rex yet?" I asked him.

"Not yet. I can't feel our bond either, and it's driving me insane. I can't believe they out smarted me. It's my job to protect you and our pups, and I failed you three." He said. His eyes were misty.

I climbed on top of him, straddling him. I took his cheeks in my hands, resting my forehead against his. This wasn't his fault. It also wasn't my fault. It's just easier to blame ourselves for our mistakes.

"I'll forgive myself if you can forgive yourself. Neither one of us is to blame. But I would never blame you for this. You did everything right. Both of us just underestimated their greed." I said. He wrapped his arms around me and squeezed me.

"I love you so much, baby." He said, before bringing his l!ps to mine. It was a kiss full of love and devotion.

My heart fluttered as I kissed him back with the same amount of force. Hunter was my soulmate, regardless of the matebond. Hunter was always meant to be mine. I can't believe I almost let him go. For four years, I made this man wait, and he waited. "f**k, I'm so glad you and our babies are safe." He mumbled, pulling away. I rested my forehead on his, rubbing my nose against his.

"I'm so glad that you're safe." I whispered, nudging his nose.

"You looked amazing in that dress of yours," he whispered.

"Hunter green, my favorite color," I giggled.

A knock at the door pulled us from our moment. I wish we were home, and I had already handled all of this. I didn't want to be on this side of the kingdom any longer.

"Be right there." Hunter called out.

"Go have a bath, baby. I'll be right in," Hunter said. I nodded before climbing off of him and headed into the bathroom to start a bath.

I wasn't paying too much attention to what Hunter was doing. After turning the taps, I looked in the mirror. I was looking at my bump, or lack thereof.

I wasn't worried, as I knew Hunter was just outside the door. I was n.aked as I looked in the mirror. My b.reasts must have doubled in size and they were big before. Rubbing my hand over my lower belly, I wish I could feel them already.

"They are doing good. Get Hunter to listen to their heartbeats when he comes back," Aurora said.

"Thank you for keeping our babies safe," I told her. I was so focused on saving Hunter that I should have talked my plan over with Aurora first. I should have made a list of the risks.

"Nothing was going to stop you, Kailen. And I'm happy you saved our mate. I know you are worried, but everything is going to be okay. Our pups are growing stronger with each passing day, and soon you'll be able to hold them in your arms. Just breathe." She told

me.

"Thank you, Aurora. I'm not sure what I did to deserve such a wonderful wolf and mate, but I'm so thankful for you both," I told her.

"Kailen, you've been through so much in your short life. You deserve everything and more. And you know Hunter will give you everything. All you have to do is ask," she said.

"Can you feel Rex yet?" I asked her, worried.

"I know he's okay. I can just start to feel him. The wolfsbane is wearing off. It should be completely gone within the next hour or two," She answered.

"This could have ended so badly," I said.

"Kailen, I don't think you should talk to Alpha Ivan or any of them. Leave the past in the past and let others handle it. You've worked so hard to move forward. I don't want you to go backwards to a time when you felt worthless." She told me and I sighed. "I was thinking the same thing. Hunter and I should just go home and let the other gammas figure this out. I'll help if needed, but I don't think I want to face them," I told her.

"It's not about facing them, it's about being strong for your family. Knowing when it's time to walk away. And Kailen, it's time to walk away." Aurora said. Before I could say anything else to my wolf, the bathroom door closed. Thinking it was Hunter, I turned to face the door.

"Who the f**k are you?" I growled out.

"If he can't have you, no one will."
